I'm gonna rent this game soon so this will come in handy!

So I am stuck.  This is what the guide is telling me to do:

Lab:
Assembly Table:
Click on Echo Pedal.
Remove cover.
Move the switch on the upper right corner.
You get Polarity Switch.
Examine evidence.
Use IntegriSwab to get Residue from Polarity Switch.

I can get to the point of removing the cover and then moving the red switch on in the upper right corner...buit after that I cannot examine the evidence as the guide suggests.  What could I be doing wrong?  Or is this glitched maybe?  Please help.
