Re : Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

I got this problem about a week ago while playing Assassin's Creed. Still had sound but no picture so I restarted the console and it worked fine. Got the problem 2 more time with Guitar Hero 3 and now it's the black screen of death (but sound is still working).

My friend tested my cable on his console + TV and it worked. Tried it again on my TV and it still not working so I'm pretty sure it's my console.

Can anyone tell me if the last version is the problem? My Xbox downloaded a new version just a few days before it began to crash. Has anyone got this problem with an Elite console? Mine is about 2 years old...

I just got this problem today playing the Burnout Paradise demo. Screen had a green and blue filter, i turned it off then on again and it was ok for like 3 minutes then went green again. I turned it off again then back on and got zero video but lots of sound. I went out and bought new cables and got same deal, no video. Called Microsoft and they said this problem is not covered in the warrenty and will cost me $99. They'll get that money when my life gets 3 red rings. By the way today is my Birthday

wow this is crazy,
I've been having a simmilar problem. I was playing cod 4 this morning when everything just went green. Green blotches everywhere. When I went on live the picture turned red as well. Pretty frustrating. It will go away for a few minutes but comes back.

You can also add my name to the list.  Playing COD4 when my screen went crazy.  Switched it off and was able to play again for a few minutes before the whole screen went red.  Tried it agin this morning and after about five minutes the screen would go red.  So I turned it off and on again and now no video but the sound is working fine.  Great timing.  I have a launch console and have had no issues up to this point.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I too had this problem.  I turned on my console and put in Halo 3, got halfway through my second match when the screen started acting up with blue shading, red lines streaking across the screen, and sudden green flashes.  I played thru the match and restarted my console only to find that even though it would boot properly, run games, and play audio -  there was no video output whatsoever.  I also noticed that my console had been producing more heat since the Dec. 4 update so I wonder if that had a role in this?  Called 1-800-4MY-XBOX and was told I'd have to pay $100 for my console to be repaired since it is out of warranty.  I refuse to pay that amount and wait 3 weeks for a refurb that'll have the same or different malfunction problem!!  My original 360 lasted less than 90 days before I saw the 3 rings of death.  MS replaced my box entirely and now, less than a year later, I have to put up with this bs!!!  It's kinda obvious that when everthing is okay EXCEPT the video output, it's a video card issue.  But since it doesn't register as a 3 ring of death defect, I'm stuck paying for it???  BS!!!  When will this issue be resolved, when half of xbox customers boxes mess up?!?  I'm a fairly hardcore gamer who has remained loyal to MS since the 1st XBOX  but this is f***ing rediculous!!!  There's no way I'm staying loyal to a company that recommends I pay for a repair or go buy another console when I've kept mine in great condition and it suffers the same fate as the 3 rings consoles!  So until MS resolves this problem and fixes these consoles for free(the way it should be) I'm not paying MS squat!!  Congrats to MS for pissing off a loyal fanCrying [:'(]Angry [:@]Super Angry [8o|]

I've got this problem too, and no CoD4.  It happens to me a few minutes into playing now.  I can usually make it go away by turning off the console and turning it back on, but it always comes back.

Mines doing it too :(

I refuse to pay $99 for a repair that obviously is microsofts faulty engineerings fault, hopefully they'll make an announcment soon though.  Also it isen't games thats doing it, it's just the Xbox all together, maybe the lastest update?

About a week ago my girlfriend came over and I haven't touched the xbox in awhile, so no new games or anything just saints row. Well she bought the movie SuperBad and I put it in and xbox live said there was a update so I updated and we started watching the movie, halfway through the screen goes yellow and so is the dash so I turn it off and lo-and-behold theres no video.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I also observed this problem on my unit back in September first when I downloaded the Ace Combat 6 demo.  All the color had a green tint to it and at first thought it was something with the game's graphics.  The game finally failed and after rebooting the 360 lost all video what so ever.  I was using the composite cables at the time and found that if you let the unit rest overnight it would work again only to fail again shortly thereafter.  Mine was in it's last month of warranty so Microsoft ended up swapping the unit with a refurbished one.  Haven't had any video problems since but thought I'd post my experience since this looks to be a trending issue.  Hope everything works out for the rest of you.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Add me to this growing list.  Don't bother buying a new cable because it won't work.  MS better be paying attention to this...it is not an isolated event obviously.  I am going out and buying another box and waiting to see if MS pulls their heads out and extends the warranty for this.  My kids won't be without a box with the games I have already bought for Christmas.

Re: Re : Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Very odd to see so many responses stating the same thing I've had.  After playing COD4 for a couple of weeks, I started getting some yellow/green or blue edges to everything, then it would disappear, then come on again, often 10-12 times a night.  Sometimes there was an entire yellow tint to everything that made it difficult to sort out the COD4 enemy from friend.

Last night it stopped sending ANY video signal at all.  The audio is still excellent.  I have had this same 360 box since the first night of issue and have logged untold hours on it.  All of a sudden with COD4 the problems started, like the video was oversaturated by the color drive.  Now I have absoluely NO video output whatsoever.  I've checked the cables and all.  I have the first 360 HD A/V cable to a 52 inch plasma using component cables.

I emailed but have not called xbox tech support.

It appears that so many began having trouble with COD4!!  Anything to this?  Thanks, Bill

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Add me to the list.  I owned Halo 3 for a while before selling it to a family member and I never had a problem.  The problem for me started when I put in San Andreas from the original XBox.  I'm just trolling along and all of the sudden, my screen goes red.  I turn the system off and, when I turn it back on, I can't get any video, only audio.  Last night, I was somehow able to get it on and I played some NHL 08 without issue, but now it's back to the no video thing.  I bought new composite cables, but that hasn't worked at all and now, I'm out 14 bucks.

I hope to *** Microsoft comes out with either a fix or puts it in the warranty.  I think I've been damn lucky that my 360 has lasted for a little over a year based on stories I've heard, but I guess eventually it would come up to bit me.  Least it could do was give me a RROD so I can send it in for a new 360 that sounds like Darth Vaderwith asthma.

Re: Re : Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Add me to the list.  Was playing Halo 3 in Matchmaking.  Game was about to start, then all of a sudden there are a bunch of vertical lines and the Xbox was completely frozen.  Had to turn off to restart.  Then started playing Carcassone with a friend... about 5 mins into the game, same thing happens.  So I turn off the Xbox, unplug everything and plug everything back in.  Try to create another match and it freezes before it can even start.  Then I try Mass Effect... load my game, and a couple of minutes into it freezes with vertical lines all over the screen again.  Then once again I shut off the Xbox, and this time when I restart, it hangs at the initial logo screen, again with the vertical lines.  Basically, no matter what I try to do, the Xbox freezes within the first few minutes and the screen gets all fuzzy and messed up with strange vertical lines everywhere.  I figure its my video card thats fried.

Called Xbox support... they are sending me a box for a free repair.  Of course, I'm already famililar with the procedure because I've had teh RROD last year.  Sucks that this happens right before X-Mas... but  at least I have another Xbox 360 in the house so not all is lost.

Anyway, all these quality issues sure do leave a bad taste in my mouth.. .sure I love the games and Xbox Live, but the amount of quality issues that the Xbox 360 has is getting ridiculous!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Add one more console to the growing list. Mine has been having the RROD problem, but it has still been working after the fifth or sixth restart, so I hadn't sent mine in for repairs, yet. Today, though, after having to take my hard drive out before the RRs went away, I got the sound-but-no-video problem. All I've ever played on this xbox was Mass Effect, so like others said, I don't think it's a game issue with COD4 or Halo3.

How long was the RROD a problem before Microsoft extended the warranty? I agree that if this many people are having the same problem, with both old and new consoles, Microsoft should make a new amendment.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

I'm adding mine to the list with the (faint) hope that Microsoft will recognize this as a system-wide problem and not isolated incidents.

Just occurred yesterday w/ Halo 3.  Original XBox 360 - problem-free for almost 2 years.  Same issue w/ different TV and video cable.  Hooked up friend's console using my video cable & TV - no problem.  So that points to a problem w/ the console.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

I was thinking how lucky I was not to have any problems. Then I downloaded the update. Since then, the colors became distorted. Today I went to give it another try and the screen froze. Then the final blow, RROD.

Maybe they should put an expiration date on these things.

I have the same problem also...called Xbox and they said that I had to pay for the repair (haha, yeah right!!).  I told the support staff that it seemed that a lot of people are having the same problem, and he agreed.  Microsoft should fix the warranty problem ASAP!!!  Here's some more BS....My warranty expires tomorrow....even though I reported the problem today (Before my warranty expiration date), they still said the repair cost wouldn't be covered by Microsoft....WHAT!!  How does that not make sense??  Here's their explanation....The repair has to be processed before the warranty expiration date.   That's BS!!!  The Better Business Bureau should be informed about this problem and how Microsoft is ripping off its customers.

I have this problem too.  A couple of days ago, I started having weird snow/pixelization during halo 3 after a few minutes of playing.  The dashboard isn't/wasn't affected, but other games and dvd's were.  After listening to my symptoms and having me do a couple of things (hard disk removal and trying other games), tech support pronounced it "hardware failure" and a coffin is being sent for repairs.

Does anyone know if microsoft makes up for the time people recieving repairs lose on their live subscriptions during the repair process?

Well it happened to me tonight while in the Dashbord.  Screen filled with red boxes and machine froze up. I rebooted and had no picture and no audo. Tried different cables and no luck. I spent about an hour arguing with support about how this is a hardware problem and it's not my fault the the Xbox is not showing RROD.  They told me it would cost $100 to repair and they are sending me the "coffin" .  Now get this, after I got off the phone with them I rebooted several more times and now my 360 has the RROD.  Never thought I would be so happy to see those beautiful red rings on my console

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Yeah happened to me I was playing Fifa 08 though when the colors screwed up so I restarted and got the black screen of death.  I do own Halo 3 though so maybe that caused it.  At least I may get my money back for Halo 3 if the class action goes through.  I hate to say this but I hope it will happen enough that Microsoft will step up and do the right thing, they made a defective product and they should replace it or fix the problem and replace Xbox's where it continues to occur.  I don't want to pay the $90 to get it repaired only to have it occur again.  I have been a long time supporter of Microsoft with the original Xbox and their games for the PC, but this might be what finally pushes me to switch to Playstation.
