Signed....
I was loaning my 360 to my Dad since I"m going on a trip soon. He calls me up on the phone after a couple of days and says son...I've got some bad news for you.
In an expecting tone of voice...I ask..."red lights of death eh". He's like what? uhh no...I was playing Gears of War and it made a weird crunching noise...and no matter what I do the disc tray keeps popping open.
I hadn't even heard of this problem yet and thought he just must be doing something weird...but I go and pick it up...and can't figure it out either. thank god for warranty.
When I send it in, should I detach the hard drive or are they going to want that as well?
same thing happened to me, and it was hard to get it closed.... what i did was timed it so i closed the disc tray, turned off the 360, and i had to hold the tray in so it did not pop out.... this is not good for the tray i would bet, but its already broken, and i figured i wasnt going to turn it on again... then once the 360 is completely shut down, you can release the tray, and it will stay... MS didnt even bother to fix mine, so i got a new console
it sucked that i had to resort to that, but it is just too much of a pain... if you tried to detach the disc drive, they might try to say you 'tampered' with it
