Have you heard of opinion? Maybe he doesn't like GoW? I happen to Love Barbies Horse Adventure, others don't. It's simply opinion. As for calling everyone a nerd, we are all nerds in some way. You keep calling everyone a noob, and thats very "nerdy" if you ask me.

Yep, everyone has opinions and is welcome to share them as they pertain to the discussion at hand.  But for purposes of this discussion, lets keep it on topic.  Offensive and personal attacks have no place here Deadsmell.  Please consider this a second request to keep your posts on topic and not engage in personal attacks.  Thanks.

Unless I have a few friends in the room, I don't use a mic anyway. DeadSmell makes a good case against open mics by the way he is talking here. I get really sick of hearing smacktards on live. BTW, GoW is the stupidest game they ever made for live. The campaign was decent, but the online was terrible. The best thing about gears was that all the smacktards were playing it for a while, so the live experience in other games got significantly better.

Come to think of it, there was a span of like 3 months were nobody called me a noob or told me how I got owned. The less chat I hear, the better I like it.

Personally I think that there needs to be full team communication. All major militaries rely heavely on communication. Just talking to your squad doesn't cut it. Each squad is part of the main team. The teams goal is to win. To win you need a game plan. To execute this game plan you need communication. There are currently no multi-player games on the 360 (that I know of) that do not offer this. If it is a question of performance, than delay the game and make it work. Or, make the patch ready for full team communication (and not leader to leader) ready within the week of release. I know they said that they are looking at a title patch, but it needs to be full team speak. That is required for a 360 game. I know that I am not a developer but, this is a quality issue. This is Kaos's first time out. I want to see them to succeed. I will buy the game either way but will get much more enjoyment if this is fixed. Thank you for listening.Wink [;)]

P.S. It doesn't have to be open mic. Make it push to talk. The smack tards are more likely to skip talking that way IMO.

The way I see it, they have created a muliple private chat system here...something I've always wanted and something that can only be accomplished by setting your chat settings to "friends only".  I think it will be fine, but it may turn off some.

Push to talk would be great for those not in a squad and if you were in one and wanted to talk to other squads that were very close to you.  But open mic should be for squads only...

I now believe (in my own opinion) squad chat could work, because you and your friends only following together or you and random people in a squad working towards a goal as a TEAM. Now Delisef said there may be a title update to expand communications, but for nw we have this. Which isnt bad in my opinion.

I wonder if it is at all possible to have your entire team on the same squad that would probably answer a lot of questions for all of us.

So far the word from developers is that a squad cannot exceed 4 players.

I am fine with push to talk. My problem with squad only talk is inter-squad communication. For the friends aspect this will be fine but, there is more to this game than that. If all you want to do is BS with your friends while playing than fine but, don't limit the game to just that. Think about clan matches. You will have alot more people you want to talk to. Not to mention that in a clan match it is alot more competitive and, again you are a team not just one squad. Another thing you could do is have team commanders (Battlefield 2 PC) that give each squad orders and squads talk to him. That however would require a reworking of the game and would definetly delay the game.

I think it would add an interesting level of difficulty if only squad leaders could communicate, relying on the leader to take info from his/her squad and pass it to the rest. Isn't this how it works in the real world? Although, multiplayer history has shown that it's not often that everyone on a team cooperates or acts maturely. /shrug.

Now this is the way to voice your opinion without insulting everyone who has a different point of view.  I can see where you're coming from, adding to the level of difficulty - I hadn't thought of that.  Being someone who plays games for fun, I just kind of get used to being able to hear all my friends playing instead of just a few at a time...  As for the cooperation part, I'm sure that if there's a group of people in a squad and someone is off doing their own thing or acting like the bigmouth in this thread, the squad leader could just take him out of the squad, so yeah - it could work with great success.

deadsmell, I just want to remind you that KAOS took the negative things people had to say about the sp demo and put that to good use to enhance the game...  Had you simply stated your opinion with maturity, perhaps there could've been some interesting dialogue.  Your opinion in no way makes you any more of an authority on this game than me or anyone else, which - as you've stated - hasn't even come out yet.  Moaning about people who voice their concerns only makes you the whiner here, bud.

I'll tell you what - how about we call it good, you go your way, I'll go mine, and we'll just agree to disagree, cool?

yeah were good.  I was reading through this forum last night, and I have to admit that it appears i may have overreacted.  I definatley said alot of stuff just to erk people off.  but when i do that i intend everyone to get laugh out of it, so its not entirely mean.  anyway though yeah i just want the game to do really well,  and i am sure that its going to be incredibly fun for ALL of us.
Im glad that you guys are willing to keep an open mind about the in game chat features, because regardless of what they decide to do with it, its not going to be a game killer.  and obviously as i stated before,  i think that squad chat is a great idea.
for the moderator peench, i apologize for you having to come in here and tell me to knock it off.

general keen i owe you an apology as well.  sorry for being a jerk.

Re: delisef.....I have a question for you thats really bugging me

(just wanting to clarify the communication issues to make sure i have the right idea) As of right now game ships with squad only (meaning 4 players can only talk (open mic) to each other). Then devs are trying to put up patch on release date which impliments the squad leader to squad leader (via push to talk). With the ability to create essetially 32 squads in a game (16v16 and one person in a squad each) everyone can be a "squad leader" and thus all communicate through push to talk, which fixes the problem with everyone not able to communicate with everyone. Then from there if you have a team squad set up of 4-4-2-1-1 the loners can still essetially communicate and work with the other squads via their squad leaders.

If this is correct (by the information being given from all the posts), Then this is (in my opinion at least) a very effective and militaristic form of communicating. you have full fire teams with 4 in them maybe sniper team with 2 or heli/tank/apc with 2 or 3 depeding on heli/apc and then 1 for lone wolf or Rambo (depending on the persons play style)

If this is wrong then im completly in the dark and maybe someone can clarify.

Rebel - that's what it sounds like to me...  I'd be fine with push to talk, no matter how they want to make it; so long as I can communicate with my entire team at once (both if needed for game reasons or just for purely shooting the breeze).

deadsmell - I know what you mean about wanting the game to do well... I've been following the game for a long, long time like everyone else & it's one of my most anticipated games.  Who knows - maybe the squad chat function will be the best thing since sliced bread, but it's not a deal breaker for me in the slightest if it's not.  I'm buying F:FoW no matter what!

I think that its an interesting concept and I for one embrace it..I have been getting bored... even with call of duty 4 which has some of the most amazing gameplay and graphics, I just need something new-BIOshock, halo3, and COD4 are great games but does anyone see the similarities in gameplay mechanics? I need to be stretched...I was wondering- how do modern military squads communicate with each other? Is there a newer technology where everysoldier on the battlefield can communicate? or is it limited to his squad, platoon or division? how do real platoons, squds ect talk to each other across a city? It might be that only squad leaders can talk to each other and then relay orders to the squad? I just want to play a game that makes me relearn, rethink, and challenges me to work with other people in a new way-even if I can't quite explain it...(sigh), I'm making no sense right now...
Just try to be cool....nevermind, noone else is.

I understand you guys are working out the chat system. But if you plan on doing proximity chat or full blown chat give me the option to shut it down if I dont want to listen to people even if Im in my own squad with friends. Thats the only thing thart sucks about live, is having to listen to other people. I have my own friends and rather just speak with them while playing this game. I think the system you have in place is just like me playing with my buddies as if we were on our ventrilo server. It rocks. If anything upping the limit on squads would solve most complaints.

My 2 cents.

I haven't read through the whole thread but what they could do is make some sort of commander who can communicate and give commands with all the squad leaders. Something like how battlefield 2 did it.

There is a way that you can mute everyone who isn't on your friendslist without having to go to every person individually.

On your xbox hit your guide button and then Edit profile > privacy setting > text and voice options > friends only.

Make the game put people into a squad at its choice, that fixes everytime to me.

Everyones in a squad, then the squal leaders talk between each other sharing battlefield infomation, making it more organized.

A military unit works much of the same.

I just think when the game starts, everyone is put into a squad with a squad leader (maybe desited by whos played the most)

Because or keep the system you have, with the team leader chat enabled.

Either way i still love this game.

Communication (and not a nerfed version of it) over Xbox Live is expected considering that EVERY team game (ex. Ghost Recon, Halo, Call of Duty, Team Fortress, Battlestations: Midway, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Gears of War, etc.) up to now has allowed for communications and the 360 comes with a headset.

Well, since you brought her up . . . it's a shame she didn't feel the same way about procreation as you do about communication.
