When did MS or anyone on Live become Congress?

In 1776. Same as the rest of America.

If that is the case and you are part of Congress, can you please vote against the bailout?   Oh wait, you can't... Thanks...

Your opinion of my statement would mean something to me if I had some sign that you were capable of comprehending it in its entirety.

Unfortunately, you have failed. I look forward to hearing you complain about how children own your mind on the internet in the future.

Good day to you, Ma'am. Wilted Flower [W]

Unfortunately, you don't seem to comprehend the meaning of the freedom of speech.  Freedom of speech speaks to the government no censoring you for voicing an opinion.  This does not apply to private institutions.  If you swear at your boss and get fired, you can't really pull the freedom of speech card.

Oh, and just as a side note, the Bill of Rights was introduced in 1789 (at the first meeting of Congress) and ratified in 1791.  Just wanted to make that historical correction.

Bigotry is bigotry, plain and simple.  It's not that difficult to understand.  You just do what MS say and "mute and file", you are ignoring the issue and condoning it.  You know how your parents always told you to just ignore kids when they picked on you and they would go away?  Did that work?  I know it didn't at my school, and that is basically what MS is telling you to do.

No, you aren't condoning it, you are reporting it and allowing the officials to take action.  What do you want, a direct line to the FBI or something?  Maybe you want an extra button on the controller that rallies the villagers with pitchforks and torches.  The system works when people use it.

In a way, but also that the "mute and file", as Mojo said, works only when people use it.  Too many just mute, which does condone the behavior because the offender sees no consequences for their action.  I also think there needs to be a more proactive effort on the part of the mothership.  I know it is a large charge, and you can get everyone, but improvement is our goal.

Which you are doing by reporting it to the officials.  What are you missing?  Does the neighbourhood watch go running down criminals with machetes and automatic rifles?  No, they call the actualy police when a crime is happening.  What some people are proposing is along the lines of vigilante justice where anyone can be judge, juror and executioner.  That seems all well and good until the finger is pointed at you.  Nine times out of ten, the argument is over a few bad words.  Let the officials determine the level of threat and act accordingly.

Who's afraid to do what's right here?  The OP talks about a different age and time when respect seemed to run rampant amongst young children.  The problem is the anonymity that the internet provides.  I'm sure 95% of these kids wouldn't say half this stuff to your face but on Live you are just a nameless, faceless individual.  I don't know you from Adam so if you come on here complaining about somebody's behaviour, how can that complaint be justified?  Maybe you think the phrase doodooballs is offensive and are really over-reacting.  Now if there was only a system in place to collect multiple complaints from multiple people that would result in a fair judgement, that would be greatConfused [*-)]

Gamerdads and Gamerparents seems like a start to reach out to parents to teach their children well but at the end of the day, it is not your responsibility to raise someone else's kids.

Fact is that the system is not good enough in our opinions.  I am not lookingto raise someone else's kids...it is a false analogy to compare what we want to raising a kid.  If you have kids you know it is much more than doling out punishment.  But there needs to be accountability.  We are not talkng about just kids, but all bigots.  They need to get out.  Or if M$ does not care enough to do something and wants to take their money...have a bigot gamerzone.  At least admit to what you are doing and why you don't want to police it...you want more money(and there are plenty of bigots)...that is the adult thing to do.

I'm only going to say this one more time because it's like beating my head against a post (the post won't move no matter how hard you try).  The system works and the system is good.  The problem is that not enough people are using the system properly.  Microsoft is not to blame here, it is the public of users that are utimately to blame.  If you want them to arbitrarily pop in/out to lay down the banhammer then you are supporting a big brother mentality.  As a corporation Microsoft is doing its part by providing you a way to respond to problems on Live.

Your problem is with society as a whole and the xbox live forum is not the place for your type of battle.  Bigots exist both online and off.  It is a learned behaviour that starts at home.

Live is where kids can practice it and get no real consequences.  I call out people in real life, I am not going to back off on Live.  The problem with you seems to be (from your Big Brother statement; a staple of M$ apologists btw) a black & white person.  The world is shades of grey; there is no need to go Orwell--there is a need for a service provided system...be it Ambassadors...whatever.  Fact is that the system is not good enough, and no matter how many times you type your bs rhetoric it will not become true that it is.

I don't want them to be parents I want them to enforce the rules they set in place.  They said certain speech is unacceptable.  Then spend some money and get some people on there to watch out for all the bigotry and hate speech.  I could care less if they are 12, 21, or 68 years old I want them all to have to follow the rules and watch what they say.   I am no  puritan,  I swear from time to time, but slurs and bigoted BS has no place anywhere.  That is not being someone's parent that is being a responsible adult and corporation.  Enforce your rules or come out and say..."hey we can't punish the bigots and make them go away they are too much of the revenue stream...".

Back to the subject of the post.   I just cant believe that MS doesn't have a more aggressive stance against this?????   I'm actually talking about a dedicated team who trolls the multiplayer matchs, reports and bans these folks on the spot when this type of thing is going on.  Maybe it's impossible for any company to do that, but still if the threat was there that you could be banned for conduct at anytime, then I feel it would cut down on a lot of this completely.

Am I crazy?  Should I just suck it up and continue to wade through the sea of trash because that's just the way it is?  Or do some of you folks agree with me?   Cause I sure am frustrated to be hooked on a great multiplayer game, cod4 I know I should expect it in the most popular online title right now, but lately have been having it up to here with the talk.

Like I said I apologize for the same old stuff folks wish were different about online communities, but I had to vent a bit.

This is where it's not black and white.  you want enforcement of some and not all offenses.  You can't have your cake and eat it too.  It is you my friend that is pulling tactics from the GOP by asking one corporate entity to be the be all and end all of this matter.  The system that is in place mirrors that of a democracy and our own legal system.  Let a jury of the offenders peers state their verdict through the complaint system and allow Microsof to apply sentencing.

They are the end all and be all in this matter as it is their domain.  I am not asking them to go on the street and ban people and monitor our cell phones...just what we do on XBOX Live...oh their name is in it, they own it...their domain.  False analogies again.

Look if you think swearing and calling someone a slur are to be treated equally I think you need to reset and think about that.  Could swearing offend someone?  Sure.  Call someone the n word because you think they are black and I am sure you know you will offend them.  So yes, I want things to be on different levels because they are.  If I have to sit in a ban box for a few days cause I swear to get the other thing punished then I would.  I am at least honest about what it is we are talking about.  You are acting like there are no victims in this matter.

What chance does Gotham have

Show me where Microsoft has not responded to complaints.  People are banned daily based on the feedback provided from responsible users.  The problem is that people are just not filing the proper complaints.  If you want big brother monitoring all of your online speech 24/7 waiting for you to slip out that offensive f-bomb then by all means, sign up for that.

Again with the Big Brother?  For an Obama guy you are pulling from the Karl Rove playbook an awful lot.  I already said swearing and hate speech are different animals.  I have a blog/initiative to work on this and have had email exchanges with several M$ employees; their heads are in the sand.
