Now, I'd love to get a Jasper, as would everyone else. But realistically, it sounds like it could be another 2+ months before I could reliably get one at a local retailer.

So as much as I want the Jasper, I think I'm just gonna take my chances and purchase a 60GB unit this weekend once the price drops hit.

I figure, if I get a Falcon and it ends up RRODing, I'll have the 1-3 year warranty, and most likely, the Jaspers will end up working their way into the refurbed machines. Plus, in an all out worst case scenario, if it dies after the warranty expires, that should be after the Valhalla chipset lands, which I'm assuming would be preceded by even more pricedrops. So if that happens, I'm sure I could pick up a new arcade for probably about $150, slap on my harddrive, and finally have a reliable system.

I wish I had the patience to wait, but this itch has gotten to a point where it just has to get scratched.

Ok so I was in that situation a few weeks ago and was lookin for a way to get my 360 and not get screwed with RROD. so I wen to bestbuy exactly 3 weeks and bought the 60gb and a Bestbuy warranty. On sunday I will go to bestbuy get my 50bucks back and when Jasper rolls out Ill get an easy exchange. Since Vahalla chip is comin nxt year, Ill be able to exchange again and get that, so you cant go wrong.

From what I understand, with the Best Buy extended warranty you only get one exchange.  Once that first exchange is done, you are no longer covered by the Best Buy extended warranty.  Maybe they let you buy a new one on the replacement for another $60?

That is correct, once you use the PRP (product replacement plan), it is used up, but when you get your new 360, you can add another PRP as well for whatever they are charging for the plan.

no no actually that iis wrong. The bestbuy warranty lets you exchange your 360 as many times you want for the first year, on the second year you may exchange it once, which will end the warranty and let you renew

Re: Jasper Sightings

OK, So I have been waiting on the Jasper system since my 360 decided to kick the bucket.  It seems like certain stores are going to get their Jasper cosole versions in before others.  If the Production date is correct then this is what I have found in my area.

Best Buy Elites

Team - TMEM

WO-3032052851

MFR Date - 04/26/08

Team - FDOU

Lot No. 0820

MFR Date - 5/15/08

60 Gig Pro Consoles @ BB

Team - CSON

Lot No. 0828

MFR Date 7/13/08

Note:  Almost all other stores have the 60 gigs with this MFR date, or before.

Elites at GameStop

Team - CSON

Lot No. 0828

MFR Date 7/13/08

I also visited the local Walmart, Circuit City, and Target.  None of them had any higher lot numbers on them.  From what I was seeing is that if you are looking for a Jasper console at a BigMart, you will most likely be looking for a while.  The best bets to find the system will be with the new 60 Gig models, but it seems like the Gamestops have smaller inventories so it may be easier to find especially if you are looking for an Elite with the new chips in them.  I'm also assuming they will start showing up in Lot numbers above 0830.  Happy hunting and if anyone definetly finds one keep us updated, of the Team, and Lot No.

Well... it's nice to see manufacture dates getting into July.  The latest I have seen down here in South Florida at Best Buy and Target is June 20th.  When we start to see August, September manufacture dates then there may be a sprinkling of Jasper boards in the supply.

Purchased my very first box yesterday (YEAH ME!!!) after searching outta the five they had on the store floor & after the Best Buy employee was kind enough to bring the three outta the back, the latest date I was able to find was 6.24.08

So no Jasper sightings out my way. I couldn't wait any longer though, the pain was killing me!

Most likely the production date on the Jaspers will be late july/early August, but we wont probably see them till end of september or early october. Plus store may hold on to them until all the falcons are gone

Re: Jasper Sightings

Count yourselves lucky. In Europe the price has not been cut and therefore the sales are steady, with no big surges like the ones reported today. That means the US and Japan are likely to get the first sightings. But you never know, there is always a chance that some UK stores hold real small inventories and so they would be worth looking at. Anyone know any workers at either Game or Gamestation? We could do with some insider info.

As for the delays mentioned earlier in this thread, I would like something a little more concrete. No other sources have mentioned it as far as I can see.

Well I'm waiting until I get it confirmed via a number of different sources. I want an Elite and being the highest price 360 I expect that they only trickle out of the stores.

Re: Jasper Sightings
I went on a hunt today to find a Jasper Elite to replace my Xenon 20gb.  Since it is the end of the second week of September, I hoped to find something.  I went to 2 Best Buys, 4 Gamestops, 2 Circuit Citys, 1 EB Games, 1 Walmart, and 1 Target.  I found none.  Both Target and Walmart lacked Elites completely.  The Gamestops and EB seemed to have the newest stock, but latest Elites were from June.  The 60 giggers from June-July.  One of the Gamestops even said they received their Elites the previous day, which turned out to be the June units.  Best Buy still some of the Elite bundles from May which had Forza 2 and Marvel Alliance.  Circuit City had units from January and February.

So it seems that Gamestop/EB Games is a good chance for the newer models since the keep low stock numbers on hand.  It was hard to get sales people to actually help me though.  Walmart and Target may be good too since the local ones didn't have any in stock.

I am thinking of picking up the Elite bundle with the two games from Best Buy and get the extended warranty since I would get two free games for the new lower price.  It was suggested in this thread to use the Best Buy extended warranty to swap out with a Jasper when they are common.  How is Best Buy for doing this?  Is it a no questions exchange process?  Would there be any trouble doing this?

I would guess the arcade would be the first with jasper.  Most parents will buy the arcade in place of the wii they cannot find.  Since the elite will probably sell slower it may take longer for the supplies to be depleted enough for the jasper to be found there.  Maybe the 60gb will benefit from the arcade increasing in sales.  Every store i went to had sold out of arcades gotten more and sold out of those.  Some didn't have the 60gb but all had the elite.  That is to be expected though as the lack of hdd means nothing to people looking for a wii and cannot find one as the wii does not have one.  I was actually looking for an arcade for my younger 2 to play some live arcade games and there shrek the third and such.

ive never gotten an extended warranty for anything. but with newer chips and less returns im about to come back jump on the arcade with the extended warranty from best buy. other places its only 1 yr and 20 bucks. best buy is 2 yrs and 30.  better deal . i dont see an issue with returning it within the warranty period. even if they ask whats wrong with it all you have to say is that it keeps freezing on you. you paid for the warranty you should be able to use it without hassle.

Well, I picked up the Elite bundle today from Best Buy.  Talked two three sales people and got slightly different stories.  They all said that today was the last day for the PRP program on 360's and that they were only going to offer PSP's starting tomorrow.  With the PSP they send it in and then you get a gift card in the mail.  PRP is swap in store.  I said I only want the PRP and was told no problem.  Get home and notice on the receipt it says PSP # blah blah blah.  I called Best Buy's customer service and the guy on the phone attempted to look it up but since I bought the plan it wasn't in the computer.  He said I needed to go back to the store to fix it.  I talked to the manager and he said it was a PRP and it was the date that mattered.  It says PSP because they made a change in their computer.  I ended up having him write a note saying that it is a PRP so I at least having something to confirm.  So hopefully I won't get too much trouble when it is time to swap out.

Re: Jasper Sightings
Good luck with that - I paid for  a REPLACEMENT plan - and when I went to use it they tried to convince me that it was a service plan despite what my receipt said. Geek squad guy tried to get me to let him send my console in for "repair", saying I would get another unit delivered in 5 days. I asked him why I would pay for a service that I could get for free from Microsoft. Dude flat out told me that Microsoft doesn't repair consoles for red ring after 1 year. Also said that refurbished does not mean repaired - most are machines that are found to have problems before even leaving factory. Huh!? Finally admitted that policy had changed. I tried to explain that that was fine, but they had obligation to honor the contract I paid for. Would not listen to a word I had to say - just got louder, more argumentative and increasingly rude. This is an adult mind you, at least 30 or 35 years old. Fed up with his attitude and tired of atttempting to reason with this guy, I left and called the customer service number - they looked it up and guess what? I had a REPLACEMENT plan after all! Somehow it wasn't a problem on their end! If I could get my money back to buy a new machine elsewhere, I definitely would. My replacement will probably be the last dime I ever spend at Best Buy. My only real satisfaction is knowing that dude probably lost many other customers for the store with his loud, extremely rude vocal performance despite my calm quiet demeanor. Way to go Geek Squad dude!

Re: Jasper Sightings
Firstly, the Falcon has the following revisions from the Zephyr

Resdesigned CPU heatsink
65nm CPU
80nm GPU, not 90nm
a 175W PSU, first ones came with 203W in the Halo 3 consoles.

Anyways, you might not even see a wattage difference, so don't bank on it, we won't know it's a Jasper till someone takes it apart and cross references it to a Falcon, we then use the Jaspers Lot number and go from there, that's how we'll know if it's a Jasper if there isn't a wattage change.

The 60GB contains an updated Falcon motherboard, I.E, they've put the memory chips on the unsider of the board as upposed to the top.

The 60GB also contains the newest DVD drive, or at least a BenQ, these are the 2 best drives, but they'll still be rather loud seeing as they are 12X.

The lot # is 0831.I must admit is is very quite.I played Halo3 for about an hour this last weekend in 92 deg heat and the back was warm not hot. I did use the flashlight trick to try and see inside.I took the grey plastic things off the side first,so I could get a better look. Then I pulled up some Falcon motherboard pictures a reference. To be honest the board looked the same.same heatsink. The capacitors where all in the same place too. Was Microsoft changing the board design or just shrinking the gpu die?. Just to recap, this 360 runs very quite and cool.

So are you willing to pop it open or like "Scott" said get a Watts Meter to check the consoles Watts output. You can get a real cheap one at a local hardware store unless you got one laying around. If you don't got one, you might not even have to buy one just ask your neighbors they might have one you could use for a couple of minutes.....!!!

But seriously inspect your console Thoroughly thats the least you could do for us anxious Gamers !!!
