Hey Trance or anybody in the know, is this the connection i'm talking about (in above posts) as i can't tell by the angle of the picture.

But wouldn't the lower part of device on the pic plug into a standard 360 and the HDMI cord (as pictured next to it) plug into the top part while the other end of the HDMI cord plugs into the HDMI part on the TV??

Thus giving 1080p with HDMI with standard 360s without a HDMI port on the console.

*phew.... say that 3 times realy fast. Indifferent [:|]

To much stuffing round, i think i better trade in me oldie and get an updated one. Crying [:'(]

That item comes with the ELITE, How it works is:

The HDMI cord has the HDMI connection on both ends.

The other connection isnt a HDMI connection, its an audio connection only and for use with the HDMI connection for people that wish to connect the SOUND into an Surround Sound system that dont have a HDMI.

Both cords fit snug together into the back of the 360.

Trust me on this. You not going to be able to use that unless you have the other device (which i think is a rip, as it doesnt OUTPUT at 1080p - which renders this HDMI cable useless for a 1080p connection on the original box)

Sorry to burst you bubble Linc. At least you didnt waste money to find out. If you really want the hdmi connection, getting an hdmi box will be the best thing to do.

I have a few questions about my new TV I bought.

http://www.samsung.com/au/products/tv/lcdtv/la26r71bd.asp

It says it is High-Def but games like Halo 3 and Madden 08 look kinda bad on it. I am using component and running it at 720p.

Any help to make the picture look better?

Have you switched the little switch on the component cable to "HDTV"?

Re: Xbox 360 Video FAQ by trancevib

Hey guys,

I have the Samsung LA32R71BDX lcd which has been great for the 360.

Occassionaly, faint horizontal lines will 'buzz' onto the screen for a few seconds. It doesnt matter which game I am playing and it doesnt happen while watching DVD's through the box. I have changed component cables, ports, taken 'game mode; on and off, even tried a different xbox but the problem still remains. I am running at 720p, 60hz through component. This problem only happens when playing games. The lines are visible for a bit and then disapepar. This repeats randomly and constantly.

This problem seems to happen at totally random times.

I have been looking everywhere on the interwebs for an answer but have found nothing. Can anyone help? Has this happened to anyone else? I know alot of people here have the R series Sammy LCD's and might be able to give me some advice.

Cheers

Hi guys - since the fall upate, I can no longer stream/play back video content I've ripped from my DVD collection over my VGA cable connection. If I switch back to Component, it works just fine. The problem seem to be with the Xbox 360 freaking out my TV just before the content is about to start. It appears its changing screen resolutions, but it may also be trying to change refresh rates. As I said, works fine over component. ANyone else getting this?

With the HD Sony BRAVIA Just one question though, can someone please explain how the BRAVIA Theatre Sync works? Does the Theatre Sync do anything to improve the picture quality? Eg: does the “BRAVIA Theatre Sync” setup the TV & DVD player to their optimal settings or is the “BRAVIA Theatre Sync” just Sony BS does anyone know Thanks. Smile [:)]

Re: Xbox 360 Video FAQ by trancevib

Hey everybody... If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be very appreciated... I've gone through this post, and also through the Audio Visual part of these forums and I still can not find my answer...

Ok, so I bought a Samsung 40" LCD, that has 1080P. I've hooked up my 360 through component, obviously switching the cable to HDTV instead of TV, and also changing my settings from what ever it was to 1080P in the dashboard.

Now yes, the games look *** of alot better, but, for some reason in games like COD2 (which only supports 720p, and Halo3 (which apparently supports most of the higher resolutions, including 1080P, I still seem to get some bad Jagged Edges coming through... But, if I throw Fight Night 3 in, which is also a 720p game, it is perfectly smooth around the edges on the characters.

I also know that component won't produce 1080P... Just saying to clear that up, hoping to get an Elite or Arade console to solve that problem...

Now I haven't tried out the other resolutions yet, but is that the problem, or, is there another explanation? I've been told by some friends on my list, that I can adjust a few settings on the TV itself and I may fix this problem...

I'm a BIG Aliens Vs Predator fan... The movies suck but the AVP games are awesome! AVP 3 anyone?

welcome to HD,  your lose the small blurry picture and replaced by a large picture with a lot of sharpness. If you want to avoid some you need to turn your Sharpness down on your TV. also Halo 3 is known for jaggies, as is COD2 i think.

Trust me mate nothing is wrong in that department.

Component does do 1080p. It does it fine.  It just doesn't upscale DVD's. Thats it.
Or perhaps you have a Samsung M81, and just think that because of all the issue's those TV's have with 1080p?

Good to see my Pioneer is listed with this wonderful quote:

That said, this TV is the king of them all. The best TV on the market, bar none.

At over £3,000 it's very pricey, but you'll not find a better TV anywhere in the world. Great for games. Great for TV. Great for watching movies. If you don't care how much your GTA TV costs, this is the one to get. Read our full review

My girlfriend connects her 360 to a monitor with a VGA cable and the picture quality is fine. You do have to make sure it's on the 720p resolution though. We didn't need a X2VGA or VDIGI VD-Z3. I don't even know where to get those.

Firstly, My VGA AV output cable from 360 and monitor VGA cables are both male, will a male to male coupler result in a loss of quality?

Also, given the new XCM hdmi 1080p output cable for standard xbox 360, will i be able to use a hdmi to dvi-d adaptor to play on my ws apple cinema screen ? previously whenever ive tried to adapt anything to it it hasnt worked.

Re: hdmi

Great article, thanks trance!

Yesterday I was lucky enough to pick up an arcade 360 pack from Big W for $278.  This includes a hdmi port and a build date of 12/06/2008 (yay!).

Once I plugged it in to my semi-HD tv I was disappointed.  After setting the HD settings to 720p, the dashboard looked great, but I could tell there was some information missing from both sides of the picture.

Then I loaded GTA4 and was really annoyed.  In addition to confirming the missing picture (eg the weapon choice in the top-right of the screen was half-missing), the picure is very dark and grainy.

I didn't have any of these problems when plugged in using either component or vga, so I'm very annoyed that hdmi appears to be worse.

My tv is an LG 32LC3R with a native res of 1366x768.

The HD TV resolution options I get on the dashboard are: 480p, 720p and 1080i (1080p is greyed out, naturally).

I can't get a picture that compares to component or vga on any of these settings using hdmi.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Re: hdmi
Read your TV's manual to see if there are any settings you've missed in your TV's setup menu to fix any overscan. You might want to try playing with your TV's "Zoom" or "aspect" button on the remote too as it might be set to something funny. You'll want to make sure it's set to full screen.

Failing that give LG's customer support a call, the number will be in your manual that came with the TV.

Re: hdmi

Thanks for the reply, tranceVib.

I'm pretty certain that it isn't an issue with zoom settings, as I can plug my HD cam directly into the hdmi input on the television and I don't have any similar problems.  I can confirm that there are only two AR options (16:9 and 4:3), of which I naturally have selected 16:9.

When I change the resolution down to 480p using HDTV settings in the dashboard, the picture framing is correct (no apparent missing information or 'zooming') but as soon as I change it to 720p or 1080i, the zooming occurs.

If there's anything else you could suggest I'd be very grateful, thanks.

P.S. do you know whether there's any official word on the availibility of the Optical Audio out dongle that comes with the Elite, so that people like myself who went out and bought a non-MS hdmi cable are able to enjoy hdmi-out AND Dolby Digital sound at the same time?
