Bump b'cuz of its usefullness...

I never could make an MMC; I can always make the master grid though...

I'm going to use this new-found guide and see what happens; Maybe now I can!

P.S. Can you explain the difficulty of the "inverted y"? Are there two types of pearls???
1000 - Dead Rising
1000 - The Orange Box
1000 - COD 4
1500 - COD W@W
1550 - Fallout 3

There is a Y pearl and an inverted Y pearl.  The Inverted Y is much more useful, mainly because without it building an MMC is more difficult because of the bottom right piece.  (which the inverted Y can reach).

Best of luck in your MMC quest - I highly suggest JDog's 18 Billion design - fairly easy to build and provides plenty of room for bomb defense.

Thanks Flob, guess it is good beginners design...

I'm still on my quest for Hexic scoring bonusses, I have a few more ideas, it'd be nice to have much higher scores doing "even" less...I couldn't find any for Hexic 2 although they eluded to it :(

I recently started playing Hexic again. (was in the top 100 once :o). your guides are extremely usefull, though i still got two questions.

first of all how the hell do you mine the multipliers? I saw some vids of huge mmc's being pulled off in level 3 or 4, do you just keep doing 3-piece combo's and hope to get lucky with multipliers? Or is there some other way. I'm currently making starflowers the whole time and combining three flowers when i have enough, but this doenst seem to go that fast either. I've tried making 3-piece combo's or 3-multiplier combo's too. Does this mean i just need more patience or is there a better way to do this.

Secondly about black pearls. I'm stuck with three Y pearls now. I dont want to waste anymore tiles to black pearls so i just filled the bottomright piece via a 3-piece combo (i'm pretty far making jdog's 37b mmc, my first one), but it's obviously not the best way. Since there's no way to get rid of the black pearls is the game just "gone bad" and should i start over?

I'm also wondering about bomb defense, getting two of each at the top every 10th combo seems tedious, but i guess that's what Hexic is all about :p Any bomb defense specifically for making mmc's? It seems impossible to me to keep a good defense up when making a 'high' mmc.

Multiplier Mining:  Do 5-piece combo's as often as possible - don't make Starflowers because you have to get rid of them later.  Best way to make 5 piece combo's in case you aren't sure is to put either a Starflower or Black Pearl in the 6 o'clock position with the other 5 pieces all the same color.  Research has shown that 3-4% of pieces dropped are multipliers (on level 7) so the more pieces you "exchange" per bomb round the better.

Black Pearls:  Sorry, but I would abandon that game and try again if you have 3 "Y" pearls only.  It's a glaring weakness with Hexic that you can't choose which kind, but it is what it is.  Best possible scenario is to have 1 of each kind of pearl.

Bomb Defense:  Traditional Defense (keeping 2 like colors together near the top) is effective but time consuming.  The best bomb defense is the "Multiplier Bomb defense".  Keep 3 mulitipliers together in the top left or top right corner of your grid.  If a bomb drops that you don't have the pieces available to kill the traditional way, move your bomb so that it is next to the 3 multipliers.  Cluster the multipliers and they create an explosion that will take out the bomb (and all pieces directly touching the 3 multi's).

And don't forget, if you ever get a bomb that looks unkillable, post a picture of it here - someone is sure to take a look and help you out.
