Re: Serious 'Gamers'
If someone says they are serious gamers that are on Xbox Live, but they barely have games and Gamerscore then they make themselves stupid

You don't have to "Buy" a lot of games to be called a serious gamer.  I have a friend who makes a lot of money, therefore can afford to buy every game that comes out, but he hardly plays them.  That does not make him a "serious" gamer in my eyes.  If someone can only afford some of the big titles for the year, but really get into them, play and study them, then I have no problem calling them a serious gamer.

I don't have a ton of games myself, but I love them to death and I play them religiously.  I keep up with the news and read up all the time.  I consider myself serious.  But since I can't really buy more than 2 games a year does that make me a non-serious gamer?  I just don't think it matters on the quantity of games you buy.

Why so serious?

I've got almost 37, 000 Gamerscore right now. I also work a full-time job, do a lot of freelance work on the side, regularly hang out with my friends, go to dinners with my family and get in a good amount of international travel for recreation.

Your post implies that those of us who enjoy earning Achievements have no life, when, in fact, you'd be horribly wrong. Not liking a reward system doesn't put you on a high horse, so try to avoid the snarky "I'm better than that" attitude.

Gamerscore is fun for me. And I have a life. The two don't cancel each other out.Try to be less critical of your peers in a public forum, yeah?

Not much you can really do about it but be upset about what others are doing in their lives. Physically its not hurting you and if its hurting you mentally then you need to become a loner. Its never that serious.

Um, sorry but I was just saying to everybody who started trashing my gamerscore after I started this descussion. Its stupid to compare gamerscore because, for the most part it reflects how many games you own, rather than your 'skill' or whatever.

Mitch, you have a huge gamerscore because you are a freelance game reviewer, therefore you play and review far more games than the average guy. I don't mean to be, erm, mean.

To anybody who critizized my gamerscore: sorry Im a teen with a very limited income. With that I have to buy clothes and stuff while still always having some left over to chill with my buddies with. Games are not my first priorety but that does not mean that I can't enjoy them and consider myself a 'gamer'.

I didn't intend to come across as snarky or arrogant, but thats the flaw of forums. You obviously couldn't know what my actual emotions were.

Sorry

I review very, very few games on my retail console. I own and operate on a debug unit, which is not tied to my Gamertag at all. And nearly 20,000 of that Gamerscore came from casual gaming over the past 3 years. I did OXM's The Scoreboard for Gamerscore after a while, but I would have played those games regardless. My freelancing has almost nothing to do with my Gamerscore -- aside from the plummeting progression it's seen these last 18 months while I work on another Xbox.

I have known I was lame back in high school, way back in the early eighties. But I read PC Gamer, I thought that banished lamerhood.

This actually brings up a good point that both sides of that coin are pathetic -- if you condemn someone for having a high gamerscore, you're insulting them for playing games like you do. If you mock their low score, you just look like a douche.

i totally agree on all fronts here. if u can succeed at cod vetern or  gow on insane you are not just the casual gamer, that takes dedication. ive been offline a few months now an i miss it but i still game everyday. viva pinata one of many ways ive found to get my ol lady an kids involved. my three year old kicks butt at street fighter 4. point is to be "hardcore" you cant just play gow all day, expand your horizions. thousands of games out there waiting to be demolished by anyone who cares to try. and yes i still have all my old systems and games from nes to my 360 hooked up an ready to play.         VIVA LA GAMERS

You bring up some very compelling points. I was the first person on my friends list to 1000/1000 COD4. In my opinion that alone makes me pretty good at the game. However, if you ever see me in COD multiplayer, I am pretty terrible, so where does that put me on the hardcore scale? I've put in more than 200 hours of gameplay into Mass Effect, does that make me serious?

No, putting 200 hours into Mass Effect means you need a doctor lol

Apparently you dont read OXM in one of the early 360 OXMs teaches you how to get an easy 10k in one day. its not very difficult if you try. You don't need a lot of time or no life to do it.

The really sad part, is that untill my most recent play through, I would have told you that there weren't to many gameplay issues. I was that drawn into the story and gameplay that I honestly didn't think about the texture pop in or the laggy framerate.

Re: Serious 'Gamers'
agreed. gamers seriously need to stop trash talking and humble themselves.
An example is my stepbrother, he trash talks everyone in a lobby on COD 4 and he end up in last place, and they boot his tag off the server
As for me, I just stay quiet, except when talking to the others about normal things you would talk about on a forum such as this, and I have a pretty decent game.
