If you could provide links to some sites that have information about the PS3/Wii being capable of getting viruses etc that would be greatly appreciated since my search results just bring up forum questions.
I would personally think that while nothing is quite "impossible" to do, something like this would be a stretch (as in getting a virus). In order for this to happen wouldn't one need a Xbox dev kit to basically create an executable virus program then a person would not only have to download it but then run and install it somehow through their 360 (which is how most PC's get viruses)?
It's been years since I've been active in programming so this is basically from prior knowledge.
A virus can be written for any OS
Took me a while to find an existing thread with the answers to your questions, seeing how they were answered a couple of years ago
But just in case the old "Copy & Paste reply" is not sufficient, do a google search on "wii opera vulnerability" to show the Proof of Concept. Bottom line - viruses exploit vulnerabilities as a method to get in undetected
While MS is getting better and better with browser security, IE still has more vulnerabilities than the other browsers, and they're not going to use a 3rd party browser when they can use their own 1st party browser
Bottom line - everything being discussed now has already been discussed at great lengths a long time ago - you can either choose to accept this, or you can choose to search out the truth yourself and come to the same conclusion.

Enjoy
BTW - If you read it very carefully - you'll see that some of my predictions from way back then are coming true very very soon
Since you want a web browser so badly, I'm sure you won't mind explaining what exactly you intend to do with it, what sites you're going to visit.
Come on - it's not too hard. If you're going to use it for YouTube, Facebook, or MySpace - say so.
If you intend to use it because you don't have a computer or to replace your computer (Or because you can't use your parents' computer), then be aware that you may not get your wish since the XB360 was designed from day 1 to be connected to a Media Center PC, and Microsoft has been pushing this Marketing Tool since before the XB360 came out
You folks stand a much greater chance of specific web site wishes coming true - Why you might ask? Because even though the Wii and PS3 have a browser, they are vulnerable to hacks and phishing
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is more secure than either Wii or Sony’s PlayStation 3
Ok – so now we’ve established that for as wonderful as it is to have a Browser on a Game Console, there are also serious concerns. What can be done about it? Well, for now, all the consumer can do is Avoiding Social Engineering and Phishing Attacks, but it still doesn’t change the fact that their browsers are still vulnerable.
With a PC - steps can be taken to secure and protect it.
Even Cell Phones and PDAs can be attacked, but unlike a Console Browser, Protection software can be installed
So what’s the message here? A browser needs software installed in order to protect it. That pretty much leaves the Wii out in the cold, while there is some hope for the PS3 (it is after all, a computer)
Meanwhile, the XB360 is still more secure because it does not have a browser
Wait a minute, there is a browser just for XB360's MCE and it’s 100% safe to the XB360 since the Media Center PC does the actual browsing.
So – for those not wanting a Media Center PC, maybe you should re-evaluate the reasons for not wanting it?
If cost is an issue - there are some low-end Desktops with Vista Home Premium - Media Center is built in
If cost is really an issue, and / or you don't want to part with your existing PC, you can check to see if you can upgrade your OS only for a fraction of the cost of getting a low-end Vista Home Premium PC
Now – let me tell you what I did. When I bought my XB360 two years ago, My PC had Windows XP Professional – no Media Center. For the next year, I slowly upgraded my existing PC (CPU and Memory separate upgrades) Then almost a year after I had my XB360, I bought Windows Vista Ultimate OS only, and installed it on my existing PC.
Now I am enjoying the full benefits of MCE, and I very much like using Media Center plugins on my XB360 – like My Netflix, MCE Weather, MCE Auction, and MCE RRS.
So – while folks are wishing for the XB360 to have a web browser, they do not fully see why it does not have one already, and that there are other options available to still get what they want. I hope those folks wishing for a browser finds this post informative, and educational.
BTW - this is not off topic - I am showing you that the XB360 already does the means for a browser right now, the folks wanting this browser just don't see it that way because they're not getting exactly what they want - well, many people are indeed enjoying web access on their XB360 now, and it is these folks wanting a browser who are being left behind.
I'm one of them who is enjoying Web Access like Netflix, eBay, YouTube, Weather, and RSS - and I'm not even using MCE Browser.
BTW - do be sure to look up worm-viruses before posting a reply on only the person who downloads an "optional browser" only puts themselves at risk, and no one else - because that is a totally false statement.
