I've had a 360 since launch day. I already had one RROD Xbox repaired under the extended warranty.

Well guess what... my replacement has now also RROD'd. But since I'm out of the extended warranty they won't fix it for free again (I tried both the website and calling them and they made it absolutely clear that I'm out of warranty and that they won't fix it).

I don't understand how Microsoft can expect us to keep paying $99 every time their admittedly faulty units fail. Sure they extended the warranty, but it's not enough. Especially if they give you a replacement that's identical to the one that broke in the first place and has the same problems. If you have to keep paying $99, then the cost of ownership of the console over the lifetime of the unit becomes astronomical (and makes the original PS3 cost look like pocket change).

What gives, Microsoft?

Well this helps me none at all... I barely had the money to buy the 360 in the first place so instead of paying you fools the 100 bucks to fix it post one year bull I fixed it my self and it lasted for about a year and now I'm having the same problem. So no that you say this a good year or so after my first E74 error and voided my warranty in turn wasting my time with all the research I did to fix it the first time for less then 20 bucks your saying I could have sent it to you and got it done for free. Well that is some rank bullshit excuse my mouth but I think you fools should have fixed this issue to begin with and its not a small percent that has messed up buddy 3 out of the four people I personally know have gotten this error. That's not counting the three friends on live that have gotten it as well. so I believe I should be reimbursed the for the ignorance for Microsoft for not fixing this issue to begin with. I one of the 3 friends got the E74 on his Elite. the hole reason he got it is so he wouldn't that the same problem I had with mine. I'd send this message right to your main branch her in the U.S. but I can't find the address to send it so I hope you read this you corperate puppete I love your system its fun but geez do can you make sure you get all these bugs out before shiping it out. My orginal xbox still works whats up with that really... I should be demanding a new 360 one that is ganruntieed not to malfuntion on me... But I know I voided the warenty period, I only did it becouse you money gubbing corperate swine don't really care about us that barely can aford the thing... You up the charge to fix a problem caused by you. And it just so happens that this problem acures when your limited warenty is over. Now my poor quantum singularity is stuck without a 360 cause I couldn't aford for you fools to fix your mess up... thats some logic you guys a spitting.

P.S. contact me if you have any complants becauses I'd love to shoot them down, like I'd love to offer my curent nonworking 360 to satan. Heck with it contact me so you can send me the basic model of the 360... and if you don't well to hell with Microsoft... me and my oh 30 gamer friends will just move along to good old sony or nintendo with I must add the Wii has no stupid errors like the PS3 and 360 cause they focus on cuality.  Use gamers should never have to give up quality for graphics... so you guys need to fix you issues and next time around pop out a system that dosn't end up costing you more after a year of owning it.

A year of owning it? I have not even had a console last a year ever. Well of not true a used 360 I had bought for 80 bucks still works a year later but my ellite has never lasted 8 months. The rest did not even last 6 months some were DOA. Which I know what they are doing they do this till I get a refurb that lasts past the warranty so the corperate swine at MS can make money on me buying a new console.

Last night I got E74 message. And my 360's warranty is over.So instead of buying new one which will probably break again, I was able to fix it myself by replacing the xclamp with different screws,etc.
I do not recommend that everyone fix it by themselves but I am very good at fixing things and now it is working again but I do not know how long it will last. MS will need to come out with a totally new 360 that will not malfunction like the current 360 soon.Otherwise they are gonna lose business and money since I can see from these forums that a lot of people are just getting sick of the current 360 and are getting angry and frustrated.

well i got a E74 error on my third xbox...unfortornatly i've decided not to send it in this time or purchase a new one...i'm tired of paying for an item that should last longer than this.  Microsoft has some serious issues with their machines and its cost them one customer....hopefully other people will follow and Microsoft will fix it for a change, but i doubt they ever will...

My 2nd machine is scheduled back from repair for the E74 message today. Should be interesting to see if they actually fixed the problem. I have a box full of failed units that my family members have accumulated and left with me, mostly because they refused to wait or pay for repairs. I managed to fix one unit myself for my daughter and she's still using it. X-clamp fix worked in her case. Goes to show software people should never cross the line and produce hardware. Stick to making software or subcontract a company that actually knows how to build a solid unit! I am sorry I ever bought one of your products. When this unit fails it's so long XBox. I'll be selling off the remainder of my games and gear. One thing you do well, and that's Live. But what good is that without a console that holds up? Shame on you MS!

I Have 2 xbox's with the RROd, and I just sent them in. This will more than likely not be the last time. So i had a few questions about the warranty. 1) After 3 years, if you get the RROD, do you have to pay for the RROD fixing? how much does it cost? 2) How do they check and see if you are the original buyer? They never asked me to prove i bought my xboxes. 3) Is there a limited number of consoles that can come from one house to be repaired? THANKS! (please PM me)

am really angry that they didnt do this earlyer because i have tuck me aprt to fix myself when they said i had to pay to get it fixed, my xbox works, but sum times plays up so i have to fiddle with the ANA chip, n other parts :@

My 360 Elite just E 74-ed on me.

and it is now August 2009. Ain't life Grand?

Will they still repair it if it was fixed by a third party repair shop out of warrenty? Because i called them and told them everything, and they still said they would fix it, they gave me the label and everything, and im shiping it out today. If they fix it, do i get a one year warrenty?

if you're paying the $100, then yeah, you get the warranty.

this is wootness mine just broke like 2 days ago my warranty isn't up till the 25 but with this i don't have 2 stress as much over it

I got the E74 a year with one red light and a half ago on March 08 and then got a replacement from MS some 3 weeks later and traded in that one for a PS3 before quickly deciding to come back a few weeks later and buying a newer Falcon chip, but I'm wary now that today exactly, my one year manufacturers warranty expires and now that I'm passed it, if I get it, if I get the 3 red lights or one red light and E74 code again, I will decided to get a new console again and I will probably if its still covered, get the older and my current one fixed by MS. I refuse to wait about another month to get a console back even though its defective. I can't help I love 360. I just think it sucks that the system is unstable even though they improved it a lot since launch.

I bought my elite 5/18/07, I just recently 8/13, received my "replacement" console only to have it RROD 4 hours after connecting it to the tv. Did i mention this  was repair #5. Is that a record? Schedule repair 6 the day you get 5 back? I am begging microcrap to please let me out, or give me a NEW, WORKING xbox.Not just me but All the people you continusely abuse for the sake money. At least give us what we payed for, if you cant give us our money back. Please enough of the crap call centers, and the froum cronnies. FIX the problem instead of masking it. No more excuses and buying yourselves time, these issue should not still be happenning at this point in the game. Stop claiming "small" percentages, and own your role in this theft you are currently engaged in.More than one repair is crazy, adding the fact my original box still WORKS to this day, is even more pathetic. Most of all formaly appologize to every person I ever convinced or told that your product was worth the investment, because it is you that has made a liar out of me for supporting your very expensive paper weights.

I'm having the same problem.  When I go to request a repair, it says my "standard warranty" expired Jan 08 but with the extension to the standard on the RRoD making it 3 years, shouldn't that mean the RRoD warranty expires on my system Jan 2010?  

It's stating that my repair cost will be $99.99 and when I continue through the screens it eventually asks for all of my payment information/credit card info. 

I don't get it.   I don't want to continue on for fear that I'm going to be charged the $99.99.  Shouldn't my system be covered if the "standard warranty" expired in Jan 08?

I have had my only xbox360 since Christmas of '08. During the demo/beta release of CoD: WaW I got the E74 error, I was still under warranty so I got it repaired for free, well since my 1 year warranty is gone, do I pay for this if it happens again? Or am  I also under the 3 year extension?

Seems like a bit of a gray area with the 3 year warranty but the site states that if you are still under warranty when you get your box repaired for free then you will have the remainder of your warranty for whatever they send back to you.   I take that to mean that you will still have the remainder of the 3 year RRoD/e74 warranty even if the 1 year has run out.   But, again, it seems a bit too gray since it's Microsoft we're dealing with.

Well this is great news, except for the damn fact that I cannot request a label, because every time I call or try to file online, I get a damn error message. I posted a screen shot of the error in my thread, (http://i360.photobucket.com/albums/oo43/NuclearMarcus/untitled-2.jpg), and have yet to receive a reply. It seems that all the people reporting the screwups have crashed phone lines and websites.

I had 2 original elite consoles and both of them failed for E74 so I would say that it is not a small percentage......

Sent the orignal one in and paid for the repair and whem the second one craked I got a jasper based arcade. I am not going to mess around with sending in my console on a 12-18 month basis to get it "repaired"

MS should just have every one who sends in their unit send the power cord and send back a console with a jasper based mainboard in it and the new psu to go with it.

E74'd this morning. Second death overall. First time I just went and bought this one (its a Falcon) and sold my refurb I got from my first one on Craigslist.

This time, I'm not doing that again. If the replacement fails, I'm done with the 360.

This is easily the worst games machine in terms of reliability ever made. It's shocking the problems have lasted this long. You'd think that with the money they lose by all the deaths, that they'd re-design the thing.

I posted on here a little while ago about me sending my xbox 360 because it had E74, someone said that wouldnt even look at it, but i sent it in about a week and a half ago, it got there on monday, and today i recived the email saying that it has been fixed and they just sent it back today. But the only problem is, it says my warrenty expires 11/24/2009, thats not a very long "year" warrenty....

Its a service warranty and is only 90 days. Its not the same as buying a new one, which is a year. However, if you RROD or E74 with the fixed box, they'll still fix it for free if its within the 3 years.

What I find annoying is that when you go to request a repair if its outside the initial purchase year warranty, it says expired, but the 3 year still applies. Its a big misnomer to people.

It was out of the 3 year warrenty, but they still fixed it for free. Does anyone know how much will the store "Game Crazy" will buy it for?
