I agree and then I don't.First I agree that paying for game downloads such as add-ons etc.. should be paid for.
Second I agree with the free multi player idea.Maybe not everyone can afford to pay just to play on the multi player option. My opinion is that everything should stay the same except the multi player should be free.
But again... approximately
16 cents a day to play and shop on Live. Consider all the data Live transfers back and forth to you and your friends/session gamers. Consider that you can send text and voice messages back and forth, and Live will hold all of that for you for 30 days. Consider that if you're lucky enough to have friends and family in other parts of the world with Live, you can even bypass long distance phone calls altogether if you all have the right gear (headset, vision cam etc..) Your internet, telephone and cell phone providers do some of the same things, and you pay them. AND you pay them a lot more than $60 a year to do all that.
The bottom line is that to house all those games, game addons, videos, leaderboards, voice messages, text messages, video messages, live voice or video chats is not cheap. I just keep coming back to my 16 cents a day figure. I can't see how anyone sees that as an unfair price. Even if we go back to the start and say $60 a year. Think about it. $60 a year! The only limitations on your gaming time is the rare system shutdowns, your sleep requirements, and your social / professional life. If you were able to play 24/7/365 from your console, Microsoft isn't going to stop you.
For those that are still maintaining the $50-60 per year is too expensive, look at it this way:
You stop and grab coffeee every day on the way to work: $1-2 per coffee - (approx $5-10 a week )
You rent a movie or game at blockbuster: $5-10 for a week (approx. 168 hours)
You go see a movie at the theaters: $8-15 for 2 hours
You go play at one of those video game cafes: $5-10 for an hour (there's deals out there I know)
Escorts are not cheap on an hourly basis.
You can rent a Jet Ski: $60 - 90 per hour.
Rent the Home Depot van: $50 for the first 75 minutes.
You pay to play and shop on Xbox Live - $60 for a year (potentially up to 8760 hours if you're a cyborg or vampire). This works out to half a cent per hour, maybe even less, I might have done the math wrong.
Would I love the Gold live to be free as well? Sure who wouldn't. But when I look at the $60 price tag, and I see what I get for that, I have no problem with it, and more importantly, I'm thankful they arent charging a monthly fee instead!!
Just remember, as bad as you think something is, it can always get worse.
Again, just my 2 cents!
