but the question my good sir is.... could you by chance steal their crumpets and eat them with tea? because if this is possible i would love to join in the fun...i would enjoy a crumpet... and some earl grey... with milk... haha  seriously though i need to get across the pond to a football match one of these days... Rockstar already made a GTA in Europe: The London 1969 expansion pack for the first GTA on PS1. That didn't go over well

And NYC > LA. NYC is pretty much the center of everything when it comes to culture.

Anyway, just thought I'd share something funny I heard last night.. Some grown american man actually said to me - "I'm fed up of people saying America is the stupidest country in the world, personally I think Europe is the stupidest country in the world" Made me laugh

I thought that game "The Getaway" was a blast to play in part because it was in London and was a changup from a setting in the U.S. A GTA set in London would deff. work, or maybe in some Italian city or perhaps Paris, kinda like a Bourne movie with settings all over the place.

Re: GTA: Europe?
Well, there are different gun laws in different countries throughout Europe. In some European countries, you'll see armed police officers all the time, in other countries you won't. But, we're talking about a creative media here, where you don't have to adhere to reality, if the game adhered too closely to reality, the game wouldn't be half as much fun. Guns may be common place in the US but, even in the most crime-ridden places, it doesn't even come close to the level of chaos and violence you'll experience in the game. So, I think that guns being less commonly available when compared to US, really doesn't matter. As interesting as it would be to see a city outside the US though, fundamentally, the location isn't really what makes the game so good.
The tougher the battle, the sweeter the victory!!

Because the rumors are that its in Paris, London, Dublin. The key is its rumored to be somewhere in Europe. Its a blanket title.
That's like having it in Melbourne, Toronto, Rio... 3 random places...

lol, your right. he has no idea what he's talking about. He thinks that Europe is one nation.

While it seems to be universally agreed that Mattes55 isn't doing himself any favours, I don't get the criticism of him just calling it - unofficially obviously - GTA: Europe.

After all, San Andreas was named after a fictitious state that was a hybrid of two states, with three major cities all also renamed. The difference between the real-life models for the cities was also substantial, as the state of California is bigger than England.

If there is a GTA game set in Europe, and set in more than one city, it's hard to believe it would all be cities within one country. They'd likely incorporate different cities from different countries, rename them all, and rename the area/continent in the vein of Liberty City, Vice City and the three cities of San Andreas.

I like the GTA theme of making fictional American States and cities, so maybe if they basied a game in a fictional European nation?

If they do this it will only be pretentious. Don't get me wrong. I like europe but a gta there only feels pretentious and boring.

I didn't read the posts in this thread so excuse me if Im being redundant.

What EU countries have police that dont carry firearms? Im sure there are a few but I believe the vast majority do unless if you can bring me something that tells me otherwise. I took a EU trip this summer to England, France and Italy (2 cities in each country) and every city had police officers with guns (I noticed the French officers carry P-90's, which is cool since it was my first time seeing one in person).

Also Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (one my favorite movies of all time), Snatch and Layer Cake were all great gangster movies set in Europe (England to be more precise)...oh and The Italian Job...and that's just off the top of my head.

And FYI, GTA already has two games set in Europe. GTA: London 1961 and GTA: London 1969, both expansion packs to the original GTA on the PC.

Maybe a winky emoticon could have saved some misunderstanding. There are definitely some seedy areas here but that's any major city. At least we get snow. Take THAT LA!

Sunshine in the city

snow resorts outside of it.

Re: GTA: Europe?
I don't have any problem with the next one being in Europe, but no matter where it is, I hope there is much more of a rural setting/feel to it.  Doesn't have to be the entire game cause I realize it could possibly be a bit limiting over the course of an entire game.  But y'know how gta4 is divided into islands... well, how about a rural/country section of the game equivalent to one of the big islands in gta4?  This goes for ALL games, not just gta, but I'm uber-tired of seeing New York, Los Angeles, and whatever other big city name you wanna insert "here".  Every large city has a subway, big buildings, and landmarks... we get it already.  It really doesn't matter which one you use anymore... they're all basically the same, at least from a videogame standpoint.

I would perfer another Vice City or San Andreas but I wouldnt MIND a europe based game because we all know R* will do it right and make it a great game. Only place I think GTA would fit in Europe is Russia. But they did do a GTA London so they might go back there.

Wouldn't want London though as gun crime is not very high therefore wouldn't really fit the auto shotgun havoc of 4. But who cares. Whereever R* takes it, we know they will make an epic game.

I think the Russian gta game would be awesome!  But being that Niko was from the Balkans and mistaken for a Russian and so many other Russian characters in gta4, I doubt they'd go that route for the very next game.  I could see them going Far East, Italy, or South America.

Those are some good ideas.

On that note, if they did a multi-city GTAV, having it be in and around Italy would be pretty interesting, especially since they could incorporate Nice or Monte Carlo in addition to Italian cities (like how they brought in Vegas alongside LA and San Francisco in San Andreas).

In terms of a single-city GTAV, having it set in London, Rio de Janeiro, Moscow, Hong Kong or Tokyo would be pretty cool.

Even though they did London, that was the older top-down style and doesn't really count. I'd rather see London than Vice City again. I know people love that game, but I just didn't think that one city had enough depth for a single-city GTA.

USA stupidity never ceases to amaze me (not all of you). Why the hell would it be GTA Europe? You do know Europe is massive? BIGGER then America.. its made up of lots of different countries.. A GTA LONDON COULD WORK... East London... Americans aren't very educated in modern day "britain" as you guys call it. Gun and Knife crime is very high in London. There are proper east end cockney gangsters, plus imagine the extensive underground system, all the famous land marks... Sure it probs won't be chosen as a location, but you guys seriously underestimate how the game could be IF it was set in London. The rest of europe wouldn't work, as they don't speak english.

Ugh your arrogance makes me sick. We know what the hell europe is jackass

Europe? Europe isnt one place mate, also you talk of police not carrying guns, what about the attractive parts of europe like the Balkans, where our main character is from. Im sure the police carry guns out there its like the wild west.
