Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You
Not sure if this can help anyone else or not but I turned my 360 flat, had it standing up.  Have not had one lock up.  Before I could not get through 3 games without a lock up. Have gone 12 games with none.

Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You
I have had the Xbox 360 and NCAA 2007 for 1 week. NCAA 2007 is the only game that I have. I have had the Disc is Unreadable error at least 10 times so far. It seems to happen to me after I break a huge run for a touchdown when playing live. I bought both from Best Buy and have 30 days to return the Xbox or exchange the game. After reading all of the other posts I would have to think that it is a problem with the game and not the console.

Here is something else interesting. My NCAA disk had about 10 smear marks on the data side of the disk. It looked like a mark that would be left behind after pealing a sticker off of something and then trying to wipe away the sticky residue. I cleaned them all off and it seams to have made the problem occur less often but it has not eliminated the problem. I am going to return the disk for a replacement today and buy Ghost Recon so that I have another game to test with.

My GF knocked over my 360 while I was playing one day and it scratched the disk. I could not play after that. I had played over 100 games on that one w/o any problems at all what-so-ever. My new disk had one lock up (freeze) since I traded it out. It doesn't seem to run as smoothly as the other disk also (I hear it reading and searching more often). I think some of the disks may have more problems than the others and it seems like its the second shipping of the games thats messed up. Most of the people who got the game early or on release don't seem to be having as many problems....

I have had this problem occur on several occaisions.  It generally happens once a day.  I know if is not the disk.  My buddy has the same thing occur to him as well.  Getting pretty fed up with all the XBOX 360 problems.  I have already had to ship my first system back.  What do I get in return...  a refurb....  This is the last time I will spend my money on a Microsoft Video Console unit.

Not true. Mine was pre-ordered and so was my buddy's. We both experience the problem. And it has happened to me again since I last reported that it had stopped.

And will people please stop saying to turn it horizontal and that will stop it?  As I've already posted, I've always played with mine horizontal and still experience the problem. So it's not a horizontal/vertical problem.

At the recommendation of a friend of mine, I turned the commentator level down to 0 which I am assuming disables Corso and company ... not sure if this is a fluke or what, but so far I have actually been able to play 3 whole games without it freezing! Imagine that, I have actually been able to play the game ;-)  So far during the 3 games, there have been no stutters at all (the scary signs that you know its about to freeze).

Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You
Ok...I posted earlier before I returned my first copy to Best Buy for a new copy. I was playing with xbox horizontal (which doesnt matter anyway), high off the ground, power supply off the ground and with more than a few feet of cool air space around both. Basically I was playing in a "Clean Room" environment. Anyway, my new copy doesnt have the problem. It would have given me the disc unreadable error by now because I have been playing it for about 6 hours tonight. My wife is pissed and doesnt believe that I was "testing" my console. :) Also, I talked to Microsoft on the phone today and they said that it is their belief that it is a problem with the game. The guy at Best Buy said that he had been exchanging NCAA 2007 for the same reason that I was bringing it back. I tried to contact EA and had no luck. After everything I have done to figure this problem out I am, at this point anyway, confident that it is a EA disc issue and not an xbox issue.

This has happened to me at least 12 times.  Especially game on games where I pause to check the control schemes.  I wrote to EA and here were their two automated responses, claiming they are not responsible.  The problem is they are responsible, being that my background is in software testing and quality assurance it is their responsibility to code for the hardware, though they seem to be claiming it is a firmware microsoft problem.  Unfortunatly I can't return the game to BestBuy because I didn't save the reciept and they won't exchange it:
NUMBER 1

Hi,

Thanks for writing us at EA Technical Support.  I understand that you are currently having freeze issues with NCAA Football 2007. I apologize for your situation, and the inconvenience that this causes you. I would like to see a resolution to this as soon as possible as I would like to see you enjoy the game finally. Please allow me to ask a few questions so we can find a resolution to this.

Would you happen to know the DVD drive model on your 360 system? I ask this because there has been instances where the game would freeze in one system and run fine on another and the only difference being the DVD drive model on the system.

Also, please try the following steps to rule out other external factors:

Unplug all non-official peripherals.

If you own any non-official X-Box 360 peripherals, make sure they are unplugged prior to starting the console.
Example:  Interact PowerPad, MadCatz Gamepad Pro, Saitek Adrenalin Pad.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remove game related save data.

Power on the X-Box 360 without a game disc inside to display the X-Box console.
Select Memory.
Select Hard Disc.
Find and delete any save file with a name matching the game you are having trouble with.
Once all of the save files have been removed, restart the console with the game disc inside.
Try playing the game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If none of these troubleshooting steps resolved the issue.

Then it is possible that the disc may be defective and needs replacement. However before trying to have the game replaced by EA, you can try have the game replaced at the store where you purchased as much as possible to avoid incur additional shipping charges if you let EA replace the game.

The EA Warranty information is as follows:

REPLACEMENT

If your game disk has been determined to be defective upon purchase you can return it to our warranty department for a replacement. If it has been damaged due to misuse or wear, our warranty department can replace it for a nominal fee. Click on the following link for replacement instructions and associated fees:
http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eatech.cfg/php/enduser/cci/warranty_information.php

RETURN

If this you are totally dissatisfied with the product and wish to return it, there is very little other option I can provide aside from offering our 90-day warranty so that you may either try playing with a fresh copy or so that you may exchange the game with a brand new, sealed copy for return to your original retailer.
http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eatech.cfg/php/enduser/cci/warranty_information.php

I hope this helps and that you will continue to enjoy the game.  If you have any other questions feel free to reply to this e-mail, and I will be very glad to help you out to the best of my ability.

NUMBER 2

Hello,

Thank you for contacting EASPORTS Technical Support regarding the freeze issue you've been experiencing while attempting to play NCAA Football 07 on your Xbox 360 game console. In order to fully troubleshoot this issue, please attempt the following steps:

1. Restart the console.
2. Determine whether the issue has occurred more than one time. If this case is the first time that you have experienced this behavior, the issue may not occur again.
3. Determine whether the Xbox 360 console is overheating. Make sure that the console is not in a poorly ventilated environment or near a heat source. Heat sources include TVs, computers, monitors, and other electrical devices.
   • If the Xbox 360 console is in a poorly ventilated location, move it to a location that has sufficient ventilation, such as on top of a table or on the floor. If the issue is resolved, the previous location likely did not provide sufficient ventilation for the Xbox 360 console to correctly function.
   • View the Xbox 360 instruction manual for information about correct placement of the console.
4. Make sure that the Xbox 360 console is set to the correct time and date.
5. Power down the system, and then remove all the connected accessories that are attached. This includes the Xbox Hard Drive. Test to see whether the problem still occurs.
6. If the issue occurs with offline games only, go to step 7. If the problem only occurs with games when you are play online with Xbox Live, the issue could be related to connectivity to the Internet. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
   - 909817 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909817/) You experience poor performance on Xbox Live whether you use an Xbox 360 console or an original Xbox console.
7. If your console is a PAL console, try setting your PAL setting to PAL 60. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
   - 917304 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917304/) Xbox 360: Your Xbox 360 console is set to PAL 50 Hz and you cannot play an Xbox 360 game on your console
8. Determine whether the issue is related to discs:
   • If the problem occurs when you are using a disc, go to step 9. Otherwise, go to step 11.
   • If the problem occurs on multiple discs, go to step 10. Otherwise, go to step 11.
9. Determine whether the disc that you are using is the cause of the issue by testing several similar Xbox 360-compatible discs in the console. If the problem occurs with only one disc, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base to determine whether the particular disc has any known issues. Use a disc of the same type, such as a game disc, a DVD movie, or a music CD, to test whether the problem is the specific disc. Also, for specific disc issues, check the disc for any visible signs of damage or if the disc is dirty. Hold disc by the edges without touching the surface with your fingers. Clean the disc by using a soft cloth, lightly wiping from the center outwards. Do not use solvents or chemicals to clean the disc.
10. If the problem is specific to particular games, try the steps that are outlined in the following Knowledge Base article:
   - 916110 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916110/) Xbox 360: You experience gameplay issues with specific Xbox 360 games
11. If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Xbox Customer Support. For more information about how to contact Xbox Customer support, visit the following Xbox Web site:

i exchanged my game the other day, went 5 games and an offseason recruiting period and had zero freezes...

i was pumped... then it errored... and it has 3 times since then... luckily one of the errors popped up immediately after i had saved it... i called it a night imediately after...

i reckon i will keep at it for another few days until i return it again... *** that "unofficial" peripherals stuff... give me a break on that... that's like saying that the name brand aspirin will do more for you than generic... i don't believe that for a second...

Maybe you haven't gotten the point of this thread, but we don't believe it's the console. It's the GAME.

Good luck 'welling' it.

Try turning the commentary down to 0 to see if that could affect it like some have said. At least then we have a starting point.

Mine happens too infrequently to be able to know if it fixes it or not.

Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You

Hey all,

I found on other message boards a way to fix this issue.  So far after a week it has worked for me.  And I've played about 5 hours straight without it bugging out.

Basically it was saying that the programming is faulty in this game.  There is a bug in the coding where it reads EA material off your hard drive.  Unfortunately, it doesn't know which EA game to read.  So if you have other EA games on your HD it's trying to read material from all EA games on the HD because it doesn't know what is what, thus causing the game to die and be unreadable.  It said go into your system/HD and delete all EA records, including your current NCAA one.  I didn't want to delete but since I wasn't that far into my other EA games, I figured it was worth a shot.  So far, like I said earlier, I have had ZERO problems.  The ncaa game is the only EA saved on my HD now.  Try it, it worked for me. Smile [:)]

Happens to me every few games...prolly 20 times in total.

Once it would have the camera just move around the field after a play and let the play clock count down till a flag was thrown, then send me to the play calling screen...i had to indure that for the final 2 mins of the national championship and it still froze when i tried to exit at the end of the game

Started happening yesterday.  I can sim games all day long do recruitng but once I get to the third quarter of the game it tells me the disc is dirty or error takes me to the dashboard were I go to play game and bam it starts up fine again only to have it happen in the third quarter again.  I just got a remaufactured 360 last week.  This may not be microsofts fault but I recommend to everyone not to buy a 360 I have had several problems.

Yeah, I've had it happen to me quite a bit now. It's really become worse as time has gone by. My XBox is pretty new too, I bought it end of May! Anyway, what should I do with it? Should I return it and exchange it? What should I do?

Well, after losing a couple of games to freezes, and having Oblivion lock up on me, even with an Intercooler, my Xbox went back to Target today. I only had it 30 days. If I played for a few hours, that's when the problems crept up. Plus, my NCAA disc, which I bought BRAND NEW already has some scratches on it from the unit.

Good bye, Xbox. I may buy a used PS2 sometime, but I'll probably use the funds for a new 'puter. My old dell is not what it used to be..

Me too. As we all know, there are NO 2K sports games that are notorious for lockups.

Uhhh, right. NHL and MLB, anyone?

Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You

I have had this a number of times also.  I will say that it has also happened one time on my Call Of Duty 2 game.  But I don't care if it is EA's problem or an MS problem.  How could this have come through EA's testing group without this problem being addressed.  Did they only test it on a few different 360s?  With the number of people who have said they encountered this problem, either EA also ran into this problem during testing and they ignored it or they didn't do anywhere near enough testing on different systems.  So even if they feel it is an MS problem, they should have worked with MS to find a solution before the game went out.

One last thing...this same type of error happened with NCAA 2005 on my original Xbox.  On that system, only that game ever had problems.  And it happened in the same place this one does, right after exiting a finished game.
