The Longest Journey

Who here has played the original Longest Journey?  I would be interested to find out how many XBox players enjoyed the PC point-and-click game.

Personally I loved it.  The story and characters lived up to praise heaped on them by reviewers.

I'm certainly looking forward to Dreamfall (and more crow). Smile [:)]

Dreamfall is the sequal to The Longest Journey, a PC adventure from some years back.  I was interested to find out who here on the XBox forums has played the original since the two games are fairly closely linked.

If you were fond of point-and-click games back in the day, TLJ was one of the late classics, along with the likes of Grim Fandango.

Re: The Longest Journey
Yeah i played it some time ago.  Picked it up on a whim while looking for a new game to buy for my computer.   Picked up Dreamfall now for PC bc i doubt they will ever make it BC or for the 360 and I'm already stuck in a cave puzzle involving musical notes lol.  I have no clue.

Re: The Longest Journey
I just finished it today. I got up to a point in this and figured I'd better play it. It's supposed to be a trilogy so I hope the 3rd comes out on 360 because I don't much feel like spending $1000 to get the rest of the story. Games like these make Ebert look like a total *** for his comments instead of just ignorant.

I've spent hundreds of dollars on DLC (probably more than most gold members) and still have to wait a week for a demo.

Re: The Longest Journey

I played TLJ after finishing Dreamfall last year (Summer of 2007) and while I enjoyed it I thought Dreamfall was better. Had I played TLJ when it was first released I would have loved it, but I appreciated the more interactive world in Dreamfall, and I also thought some of the puzzles in TLJ were gimicky, whereas the puzzles in Dreamfall were more straight forward and believable.

I'm also hoping they release the 3rd game soon, but i'm not holding my breath.

Re: The Longest Journey
I played Dreamfall after downloading it from Xbox Originals. I had wanted to pick up the game because I'm a sucker for games with good stories. After really enjoying Dreamfall, I bought TLJ on Steam and beat it a couple weeks ago. Definitely an old game, but it was a lot of fun.

Re: The Longest Journey
I do agree that some of the puzzles in TLJ were nonobvious (subway//duck puzzle, anyone?), but the whole game kind of had that old school aesthetic. Maybe I'm getting old and crotchety, but some of the puzzles in Dreamfall seemed too obvious -  a little easy, even for a two-day game. I loved the characters in both games, though TLJ was a little long-winded at times, almost as bad as Xenosaga. TLJ is well worth the $5-$10 you can reasonably expect to get it for secondhand. Still doesn't run well under wine on any of my terminals, though. :-(

Re: The Longest Journey
Just beat it, second time through, and planning on playing Dreamfall again as well (3rd time). I hope Tornquist gets around to making the third game...so what if Dreamfall didn't sell so hot, considering how much love he (seemingly) put into creating this world and crafting the story, he should finish it. Hell, it doesn't even have to be a game. Write a book, do a comic, a movie, a concept album, whatever! Okay, maybe not a concept album, but there's plenty of ways to tell a story...
