Re: no video but i have audio
Same story as everyone else, same response from Microsoft - absolute $&!T

A class action lawsuit is in order for everyone experiencing this grief. As a loyal fan who spent my hard-earned cash on this POS I couldn't be angrier and more fed up with Microsoft.

Here is the bottom line: I don't buy games without a console and I can't play online and spend my money on Live. So ha! Take that Microsoft. And, I am ready to buy a competitor's console or just go back to PC gaming and be done with this ridiculous POS.

But, allowing Microsoft to do this is allowing Microsoft to steal from me and I take issue with that. This is an obviously recurring issue and we customers/victims deserve satisfaction.

Anybody know a good lawyer?

I have this same problem with my elite console, which makes me sooo mad because i loved my elite and i think it will be cheaper to send it in then to pay $500 for a new one but i just went and bought an arcade console to subside me until i get mine back which i know will take forever but i hope someone fixes this problem and without me having to replace my console

I'm just a drop in an ocean here, but i have the same issue too.
Xbox has red ringed a couple of time but only lasts a day and then it rises from the grave again so i've been to lazy to send in for repairs. Now this is happening which i assume isn't covered by the extended warranty, seems a little to suss if you ask me -_-.

My mum says I'm cool..

I just encountered this problem today. Iwas wondering is there a quick fix to this, other than buying another console? I've only had this console 3 months.

Re: no video but i have audio
i emailed xbox support and they told me to check the connections to my system.....really? I am not that naive but thanks Microsoft. I then tried to register my console for repair. Then it says my console has already been registered which I guarantee it hasnt since this was the first problem I have had with the system.m and it is amazingly a launch system. So I just got done emailing them back saying my console says it is registered even though it isnt and am awaiting reply. I am contemplating whether to send the system in for repair or buy a Resident Evil console which apparently are all Jaspers....in the long run, the RE might actually save money.

Re: no video but i have audio
I already have a thread on this so I thought I would put it in here too. I just had this happen to me a few days ago while playing Fallout 3. No video just audio.  My system was made in 06. I called 1-800-4MY-XBOX and they told me it would be $114 to fix!!!!! I called gamestop and they said that they would give me $60 for it broke and all. So I am seriously thinking about just trading it in and getting the arcade version for $199. Does anyone know if the new one's are having the same problems? I read on here about getting the jasper version??? How do you know if you are purchasing that one? This really sucks. If PS3 wasn't so much I would get one of those. Good luck to all. Wink [;)]

Re: no video but i have audio
This happened to me on 3/17. I rented Prince of Persia, got the weird burned out graphics so indicative of this disorder, switched over to Xbox Live, still noticed it, rebooted and BAM...no video but audio. I thought it was my t.v and went and bought a new tv., tested it, same thing, found this forum, and here I am. M$ wants 99 bucks to fix my out of warranty system (which already is a refurb from RROD) and I'm SOL with a stack of games. I'm thinking of going over to the other side to the more reliable hardware of the competition and saying good bye forever to M$.

Look for my used games on Craigslist. So sorry to not have these games to play but a bunk system is unforgivable.

Re: no video but i have audio
solution to getting your X360 fixed for free is get it to display the 3RLs as you get an extended warranty up to 3 years for RROD problems. my friend put a towel over his and left it on for a couple of days and the 3RLs sure enough popped on as it overheated due to lack of ventilation. the issues you guys are experiencing is very similar to what the 3RLs represent only MS won't acknowledge that. give it a try what do you have to lose.

Re: no video but i have audio
Add me to the list.  Happened to me while I was playing RE5 on 3/21.  I noticed a greenish tint/blobs on the character models and throughout the environment so I quit to dashboard and tried reloading, but the texturing still had the same issue.  Interestingly, when I hit the guide button, the menu was unafflicted by the video issues.  Tried new wires and a new tv, just as other users have, and had no luck.  Now the screen is black with white dots and only audio comes through.

As others have noted, it seems that it's going to cost $99 in order to fix this issue.  I'm a bit upset about this as I've never had a console fail on me, which includes a 20 year old NES that still functions great.  I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do just yet.  Is it worth it to go ahead and upgrade to an Elite system with a Jasper chip set?  Debatable, at best, considering I would have to transfer the information from my current 20GB HD to the new HD, costing me more money for the appropriate transfer cables.

Decisions, decisions.  All I want is a console that is dependable and will last.  I don't think that's an unreasonable request from any consumer who spends $300+ on a console alone.

Re: no video but i have audio
I debated getting an Elite (399?), and Arcade and just using my same harddrive (199), just plain waiting for the repair (99), and then decided I'd do something drastic. Best Buy had PS3 for 399 (same price as Elite) with one free game (killzone), so I went to the Darkside.

i might get around to getting the CrapBox fixed, sooner or later, so I can finish the Fallout DLC and play Left4Dead, but I'm done.

It's time to see other people. This hardware has just let me down too many times.

You don't need to get an Elite to get the Jasper.  All new X360 consoles have them (as well as an HDMI port) but the trick is finding a console built recently enough.  Naturally, there are progressively fewer and fewer non-Jasper consoles on the market.

Some people, myself included, have had luck getting a Jasper console from Dell and they periodically have sales where you can get an Arcade console for $160 + tax.  It will also spare you the trouble of buying a transfer cable and moving your files over since you'll just use your old hard drive.  That's probably going to be your cheapest option if you want a Jasper instead of just fixing your broken console.

I've been thinking about going that route too, Liberty.  The only thing that is holding me back is whether or not I want to upgrade my hard drive.  I suppose that's a trivial thing, but it is nice to install games on the HD so that the Xbox runs quieter.

Going with what you said though, from what I can determine and what I remember, the Arcade has all the same features as the Pro, right?  Obviously, I have all the cables and the HD that come with the Pro, but is there anything different about the Arcade out of the box?

Re: no video but i have audio
Well, the Pro's DVD drive has a silver front instead of plain white, but I've heard you can actually swap those out and I kind of like it all white anyway.  Other than that, it seems to be the same thing.  It has a hard drive port cover but you'd probably figure that part out on your own.  :)

Since the Jasper eats less power it has a new power supply as well.  The one I got, by design, lacks a ground prong.  I wrote to Microsoft about this and they said I should go get a new console but I'd already moved over my licenses and I was pretty baffled as to why they'd DESIGN a component they didn't want us to use.  Maybe it has an internal fuse or something.  I don't even know if everyone else is getting the same power supply.  :P

Re: no video but i have audio
My Xbox 360 had this problem a while ago and it was a few months out of warranty, so I finally decided to do something about it. I did the x-clamp replacement fix and everything seems to be working now. It cost me about $15 since I had all the tools already. The process is actually pretty easy, just make sure to read the directions carefully. I wasn't about to make $90 for repairs. My Xbox is always on a table where it is well ventilated too.

When I sent mine in the first time a couple months ago, they had it for a total of 2 weeks from ship off time. Ohh just remembered I used the Wal Mart people since I had the extended warranty through them though...don't know if that's any different
So I get my 360 back today and plug it in. It doesn't even last 5 minutes and does the same exact thing for the 3rd time. Now I have to send it back in again and hope it breaks again before December so I can get a new one...

Wow so after 2 years of this issue it's nice to see Microsoft step up and take some action on the issue.... NOOOTTTT!!!! this is the 3rd 360 gotten from the rebuild shop sense September of 2007 and this is the 3rd death I have had to watch. it's funny how the 360 has new and exciting ways to die, too bad it costs us all $199-500 to watch it.. Not even the most masochistic of us enjoy this. Please microsoft build a consol worth buying, till then I'm cheating and buying a ps3 and using em software to play on my apple. thats a  system not even you can frak up!!!

I want you to also know that I sell you product along side of the ps3 and wii, can you guess what story i will be telling every poor soul sucked into the lies on which your company was built. also, seeing i have found enough threads, blogs, and post on the issue i shall be printing them as reasons why the company i work for should no longer carry your products or anything realted to your system. i hope more of you are fed up with paying hundreds of dollars to get a system, paying for a live service month after month, paying $60 a game to have problems with even getting an answer on why we have to pay to fix a problem that was caused by bad hardware!!!

further more everyone with this problem think hard before paying them to fix it!!!! do you really want to pay them again to have this or any other problem plugue your wallet!!!

$1200 Microsoft..... be happy your a huge campany! If you weren't  bbb would have shut your a$$ down years ago...

ps i know how to get a free fix and will be thanking you for it right here on my boxes return,  atleast i can trade it in then and get some games for my ps3.

Just wanted to pitch in to say this just happened to me, I wasn't gonna pay money to have it fixed so I did the xclamp fix which worked for a few days, unfortunately it's just died again. It's my second 360 and I'm not gonna be one of those people who insist on running back to Microsoft over and over, just to be repeatedly *** by them. I really enjoyed my 360, but this *** should not be put up with, so I'm just gonna get a ps3 or more likely go back to good old pc gaming :D

For a few months now, Xbox 360 users have been quietly venting about a "new" hardware fault with the console, where instead of displaying three red rings, machines would show an "E74" error.

Just because it didn't flash the iconic red rings, though, doesn't mean it wasn't bad! If you got it, your console would display a system error warning (pictured above), and it meant your machine was fried. Which is probably why Microsoft have decided to issue an extended warranty for the fault, similar to the one offered to red ring sufferers.

While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays "E74" on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007.

That's the, uh, "good" news. The better news? If your machine suffered from an E74 previously, and you had to pay for repairs, Microsoft will refund you the amount some time over the next 4-12 weeks.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water! leave your 360 alone without fear of it falling over and dying!

First 360 repair request: 7/7/08
Replacement #1 received: 7/23/08

I had this problem awhile back and paid Microsoft the $99 to fix it. I saw the E74 warranty extension today. Does anybody think we can argue with Microsoft to cover this issue as part of the E74/Red Ring of Death Issue. I'm thinking about calling them up to see what they say....
