Re: Canadian Repair Centre Praise !!!
You should go into FutureShop and have a talk with the store General Manager. Not the operations manager, or any other manager just the GM.

Calmly explain you issues to the GM, mentioning how it has been confirmed that FS has voided your warranty and that you filled a complaint with the BBB. Tell him that the least they can do is get you a new Xbox console because if they had not voided the warranty you would have had a working machine right now. Most of the time the GM will give you what you want because they do not want their district manager to hear how he mistreated a customer with a valid concern. If they are not willing to replace it inform him calmly that you will be contacting head office and informing him of your conversation and the issue.

I have seen people get new laptops, tvs, refunds, etc. Just don't go yelling at him because he will likely yell back and nothing will come out of it.

Congrats on getting the issue resolved, one way or the other.  If you want to play any of your Xbox LIVE Premium content Offline, such as Xbox LIVE Arcade games, map packs, or themes, you'll need to transfer their licenses to your new console.  This will also allow other profiles on your console to use this content without you needing to be logged into Xbox LIVE.

You can do this via the Content License Transfer tool here.

It's not the content, but the digital license to _use_ the content that needs to be transferred (which will require you to re-download everything anyway).

Whenever you buy Premium content via the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, it's tied to two things: 1) Your Gamertag, 2) The Xbox 360 console it was purchased on.  This is to prevent you from copying your content to friend's HDD's, letting them play it after you've left for free.

So, if you're always connecting to Xbox LIVE _and_ you don't have any other accounts on your new console that would want to use your content while you're not around, you're fine.  Otherwise, you'll want to use the tool I linked to.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Cheers!

XBox 360
 Born  Sept.2007
 Died Fri. Oct 2, 2009
It died in Firefight, defending the team's honor.
3 red rings marked it's passing.

Contacted support via the web, obtained UPS shipping label within 2 hours, boxed it up, they pick it up today.

Let's see how this plays out.

Sad [:(]

Well.. I guess I could say I am on my 4th 360 since when my first 360 died and I got the refurbished, I sold it to a co-worker to get the Halo 3 edition..

Anyway, Halo 3 edition died got an E74 Error on the 22 of September when me and my friend got some achievements in Halo 3 (ODST package). Bummed out, got my backup 360 and played on that while I waited two days for some reason to send it out. They got it on Monday the 28th, returned on the 2nd of October, but sadly I missed purolator and got it today instead.

I think they just gave me a new Halo 3 edition because it came with a faceplate with it.

Pretty good and fast service, especially when I got a free month of Live when I was playing the whole time it was gone. Just like last time when my old 360 died.

Sounds like you're disc drive is dead.  You'll need to contact Xbox Support at 1-800-4My-Xbox or replace the console.

Well unfortunately my third xbox Red ringed on me last week. The first two times I called the support and with relative ease I shipped them my consoles through Purolator.

This time however I set up the repair online, but they sent me a UPS shipping label. We don't have any UPS representatives where I live. Does this mean I am gonna have to call up customer support again (ugh) and have them send me a box?

I'd call.  I think they still will send out boxes in circumstances such as yours if asked.  God knows they have plenty of boxes.  Given the failure rate they probably buy 1:1 ratio and get the "bulk" discount.

I'm back.  Go back to page 19 of this thread and you can see the original nightmare I had with xbox customer support.  Quick summary, xbox died Christmas day 2008, took almost 3 months to get it back.  Well one bad story deserves a good story.
My Elite rrod'd on Oct 7, spoke to xbox support that night, and had a shipping label emailed a few hours later.  Sent my console by UPS on Oct 8th, wasn't really expecting much.  Only took 3 working days turnaround time, had another Elite in my hands from xbox today on the 15th.
I am really impressed this time, especially with the thanksgiving holiday in there, Microsoft did a great job this time.  They have redeemed themselves for me (although I would prefer not to go through this again).

Thanks

Great to hear another positive story, as Xbox Support does seem to be more on the ball these days.

I had a similar experience myself where my first service order in the Spring of '07 was poorly handled, but my second in the Spring of '08 was expertly handled.

My 3rd console died on me today.  The last turnaround time from the day I called to receive my coffin, to the day I had my refurb in hand was 9 days.  It was great!!

When I called 1-800-4my-xbox the recording said if I had the 3 red rings of death that I could by-pass talking to a representative and go directly to the support page and begin the repair process myself.  I thought I would be getting another coffin shipped to me but it seems that they sent me a UPS label I have to print and drop off at a UPS location.

The UPS label they sent is for a fulfilment center in Toronto.  I still have my old coffin with all of the packing materials inside, and it's in perfect shape to ship...so I assume I can use that...as long as I remove/cover up the old labels, eh?

The only other real question is, do I have to pay anything to ship it?  Or is the label they sent a pre-paid shipping label?

Thanks for any help, and wish me luck!

Yep, you can use your old box, just cover up the old shipping labels like you said, and the new label you received is prepaid, so just drop off the box and hopefully you get your console back relatively quickly.

Re: Canadian Repair Centre Praise !!!
Thank you for your reply, Lethbridge!  I live in Nova Scotia and the box is going to Toronto.  I'm going to go to the UPS store early Monday morning.  I'm going to keep my fingers crossed to have a fixed/refurbed xbox in my hands within 10 business days.  I was just getting obsessed with Tiger Woods 10 (finished my first career) and I was working on my Tournament Challenges when I started getting the 'freeze ups' and the 3 red rings.

Actually, I have another question.  I still have my receipt from Future Shop showing my 3 year extended warranty I purchased through them doesn't expire until May 2011.  If the Xbox I receive back is a refurb with a different serial number, should I call FS and provide them with the new serial number?  I guess I should call them myself when I get my working console.

A lot of people have asked me, "Why don't you sell off your 360 stuff and go with PS3?"  I used to be a bigtime Sony fan.  I still have my original PS2 from 2002 and I use it at least once a week and it still works flawlessly!  I just love the 360 games, arcade titles, and the reliability of their online gaming.  It's their cheap, poorly executed hardware that bothers me.

Re: Canadian Repair Centre Praise !!!
The only good thing I have to say about the repair center here in Canada, since they've changed the rules about sending it in, is that every time I send my box in (for RRoD), I get a new serial number. Since I get a different refurbished box shipped back, I have to call Xbox, remove the old S/N and add the new one. Everytime I do this I get a brand new warranty. The current warranty is if you get the RRoD, you get to ship it in once, and get a free 3 years warranty with it. After that's up, it's up. You pay to have it replaced. So again, since you get a new box every time, you pretty much get a free "new" Xbox every few months since they're guaranteed to break!

Now what would be great is if they kept sending the same box back and forth. You could just keep sticking those labels overtop of the old ones to make it look like your license plate you haven't peeled in years.

Odd, because Xbox Support is supposed to remove your original console and add the replacement console, serial number and all, to your file/existing warranty.

Hi guys,

After 2 years, my xbox has finally RRoD'd.  I submitted the form online to get a shipping label sent.  Questions regarding shipping though.  Am I supposed to provide my own box and pack it as well as I can?  Is there a packing standard I have to meet or else microsoft will blame poor packing for my xbox's death?  Also wondering, am I supposed to remove the harddrive before sending it in?

Thanks.

I've never had a problem replacing mine and I've had it 4.5 years now. I'm on Xbox number 7 or 8 now.

Instructions should be included with your email label, but generally speaking:

- If you're emailed a label, then yes, you need to provide your own box.
- Make sure the box is good enough so the console doesn't arrive smashed.  I know you can buy one at the UPS store.  _Don't_ use your Xbox 360's original box.
- Yes, remove the HDD, cables, and custom Faceplates before sending your console in, as you'll likely be getting a replacement console back and not your original one.

Never said you've had a problem, just saying that it's odd you need to contact Xbox Support to swap serial numbers as they're supposed to do this automatically and tie the replacement console to your original warranty.

Never said you said that. I was just saying that the warranty has never been an issue for me and its been almost 5 years. Which means that somehow my warranty is obviously being renewed.

Not sure what the problem is.  If it's an official Microsoft mic, contact Xbox Support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.  If not, you'll need to contact the manufacturer.

Good luck!
