Re: no video but i have audio
Same thing happened to me this week.  I got green and yellow tint, tried to restart and just got a blank screen.  I then unplugged everything and tried a fresh boot but instead got the rings of death.  My 360 was manufactured in 12-2005 so I considered it basically to be a launch 360.  I am probably not going to fork over $140, my reasoning is that I have had it for less than 2 years.  If the 360's life cycle has got 4 years left, then I might have to do this another 2 times.  I think I am going to buy a Wii.

Re: no video but i have audio
I just got off the phone with support.  I tried to talk to a manager, explaining that I don't want to play $140 every 1-2 years but didn't really get a receptive manager.  WTF this is a serious problem.  My 360 was perfectly fine for close to 2 years and then its video card went to crap.  Why would I want to sink more money into a console without a gurantee that I will not have to do it again?

Count me in, no video but audio is fine. Tried Component, RCA, VGA cables, tried resetting video settings, nothing. Come on Microsoft fess up and take care of fixing this obvious class problem.

Re: no video but i have audio
I though I was alone on this - until I checked the forum today.  Used my 360 before bed on Thursday, came home on Friday and no video.  MS needs to step up.  This has got to be a centralized problem, there's no way XBOX's across the country fail at the same time.  I don't know about others, but I've never had any A/V cable on any piece of equipment die.  I've never even heard about that.  Unless I missed the "best-if-used-before" date on the bottom of my 360 I think I (we all) deserve a free fix.

Microsoft really needs to address this issue

I've noticed none of the techies from M$ have posted in this thread on the issue

probally same ol' response: call M$ blah blah blah

hopefully youre gathering data and presenting it to the man himself or someone who can actually get this going for a recall or an explanation!!!

Re: no video but i have audio
This just happened to my console playing The Darkness.  Screen got a yellowing/green tint.  I tried unplugging my connections and when I hooked it back up all I got was audio and a blank screen with purple dots running across it.  This is my second 360.

Absolutely ridiculous MS!

Re: no video but i have audio
Looks like I'm one of the "3%".  While playing Forza 2 everthing turned "glossy" , reset xbox and get audio but no video.  I have a console that was manufactured on 11/12/2005, I'm lucky it has lasted this long.  The console has really never been right, it would freeze up every now and then.  I also had to replace the hard drive.  Microsoft says the console isn't covered under warranty anymore.  I was one the first to get a Xbox 360, and for this I get a console that has always been jacked up and has finally died.  Well Microsoft, while the Xbox 360 is a great gaming machine, there are hardware issues that shouldn't be overlooked.  I think I will take my money and business elsewhere.  Maybe when they replace my console, that has always been defective, I'll reconsider.

Re: no video but i have audio
I have the same problem as everyone else in this thread. I was playing last night just fine, went to turn on my console this afternoon and just had a black screen with audio working fine. It isn't the TV or the tv's settings. I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty now, which means I'm royally screwed. Who said class action lawsuit?

Re: no video but i have audio
I have the exact same problem.  I noticed the colors were getting all distorted while playing Virtua Tennis, so I turned off my Xbox360.  When I turned it back on, I'm having the exact same problem as everyone else - a black screen with white dots flying around but with audio working perfectly fine.

Also I do own Forza 2 like many others who have been experiencing this same problem and never noticed any of these problems before owning Forza 2.  I don't know if Forza 2 is the cause of this problem, but it seems kinda strange that so many Forza 2 owners would have the same problem.

I do not own Forza 2, but as I said above, this problem has occurred on my Xbox 360.

Re: no video but i have audio

add me to the list...weird green corruption started showing in the graphics while some friends were over playing PDZ, we tried restarting, didn't help, then next day the console just stops displaying video in the middle of GHII...haven't been able to get a signal back yet...gonna run to a friend's tomorrow and test with his A/V cable...

I do have to say, I'm lucky because I bought mine in August of last year, so I'm still under warranty...but this is just too freakin weird, 4+ pages of people with the same issue within 5 days of each other...

Re: no video but i have audio

Absolute same problem. I was playing Call of Duty 2 and online. Screen went to artifacts out of nowhere(completly scrambled but colored). on restart there was sound and login but this time black artifacts. The console was manufactured in january of 2006 and has worked fine other than on loading oblivion it would give this message "please put this disc into an xbox360 console". Weird. but besides that it hasnt failed

Re: no video but i have audio

I agree with you, billykwong, since I owned FORZA MOTORSPORT 2 I have problems with my video. First of all the Screen turned into black and white, i unplugged and plugged the video cable and can resolve the problem.

But yesterday night my screen went black with white dots flying (like other people)

I hope anyone can resolve this.. Sorry for my English..

Re: no video but i have audio
I called Microsoft today and they are going to repair my console for FREE! My console was manufactured in january 2006. Call them and say that you get no video, but you get audio. They will go through a bunch of steps to try to fix it including resetting your console (holding Y and L trigger at startup until it restarts). Then they put me on hold a few times and finally came back saying they would give me an in-warranty repair. The repair box takes a  week to get to your house but shipping is free. My heart dropped though when right as I was about to get the repair confirmation my cell dropped the call. Pissed. But I called back and fifteen minutes later I got through. 360 scores again in my book.

Re: no video but i have audio
I just got my 360 back today for this problem as i stated earlier my warranty was about to expire( 3 days) but after 3 and a half weeks of waiting its back they gave me a refurbished unit which means the problem is that hard to fix that they could not do it in a week the consoles mfr date is newer than the one I sent them so hopefully this one lasts         ( knock on wood)    oh well lets see how # 2 does and i will not download Forza 2 demo

They want to charge me $104 for the same repair (offered me a 25% repair discount).  Unfortunately, after 4 calls and 2 hours of waiting on hold, I was told by xbox customer service that they can't process my repair because their computer system is being upgraded or something.

Re: no video but i have audio
I've got the same problem as well. Even though my console was a release day console and therefore well out of date, I successfully argued with my retailer that it was an inherent fault with the 360 and it was their responsibility to sort out (thank you UK Sale of Goods Act). They've agreed to let me send it off to an independant repair shop, and then the retailer will re-imburse me the cost. At least it won't cost me anything to get it sorted out.

Re: no video but i have audio
The way I think is that if the video card fails in the console that would be a hardware failure but I did not get the rings of light just no picture it must have been bad if I got a refurbished console but with this new warranty upgrade I would still have had to pay because technically I did not get the ring of death just no picture which sucks if this happens again

Re: no video but i have audio
Now the obvious question, has anyone called in under the new 3 year warantee announcment to see if they will fix this problem under that? If not does anyone know how to force the 3 red lights? I guess I could just leave it turned on for a few days...

Re: no video but i have audio
When I phoned up earlier in the week they were adamant that they were going to charge me £85 for the repair. As yet I have done nothing further about it, and the console is lying disconnected.

Given the news about the extended warranty, I am a little more confident that I wont need to pay. However, as yet I haven't recieved the red rings to confirm a hardware failure. Yet there is quite clearly a video card failure. What are my chances of making them realise that the lack of red lights is merely a technicality in this case ?
