Huh?! If anything, it would be great to see them posting more. It's not about position but community involvement and in that respect, the more activity is always the merrier. In the end, everyone on these forums is (at least supposed to be) an active Xbox gamer and act accordingly.

Well, in that case, why have moderation?

We all visit Digg.com. That is the best way to have a free and disciplined community. Are you ready to have something like that on here?

Xbox.com has a very big forum with about a million users that come to surf them. I personally think these forums would turn into complete chaos without moderation. Because there is always someone looking to disrupt threads or cause trouble.

Digg.com has a very disciplined community, but a lot of the time, that can't be said about xbox.com.

Depends. I've already filed Digg as something that is the latest hotness but way too often featuring articles that get digged for what people want to hear rather than what is actually accurate (but do admit it's just me) For the time being, Wikipedia seems to do well enough to warrant genuine community-based moderation that actually works in practice but as for others, it's more like this. Mod power trips or not, gaming communities are just as far away from being self-policed as they were back in the early 80's.

You know MS needs to get rid of all those mod's who I've never seen post 1 time on these forums.  Half the problems we have in the community are from nameless/faceless mod's, who come in and lock or delete a post with zero explanation.

This makes people mad.  They don't know what they did wrong and end up making another post to complain (because they don't know who else to complain to).

Mod's are supposed to be part of the community that helps people and answers questions when they can.  Not just a bunch of lurkers who lock/delete posts.    Aside from Deacon and a few other people on that list.  I've never seen anyone of those people post ever.

I would have respect for the moderators on here if they came out about the unwarranted and unprofessional massacre of community integrity when they removed/moved/locked all threads about 360 hardware.

NO REASON WAS GIVEN.

And all of them have now been proven wrong with regards to their moderation tactics.

A lot of times I just see the moderators on here advertising their own personal sites/opinions.

Also, a lot of them only post when there's a thread about boosting THEIR egos. Same goes for XBOX community "leaders". I have never seen Majot Nelson or e or Trixie post in any thread that didn't have their name and someone kissing hiny as the OP.

I would like to see the moderators post more often too, but a lot of the time they need to just keep the forums clean, and they don't really have the time to post in threads. They're a part of the community though, and moderating a forum even if you don't show your face often is being actively involved.

i'm sure we can all agree it's a thankless job lol.

everyone has different ways in which to interact with the community.  some prefer to hover around while others don't mind mixing it up.  i'm sure you'd miss me if i decided not to harass you guys right? lol

still, i posted this so that it would help you understand that there is always a reason. there's never a conspiracy.

Well I do retract my statement about getting rid of some of them for not posting.  I did look over most of their post history and saw that some of them must be mod's for certain areas of the site, such as Spanish Speaking section or Tech section.

That being said though I've never seen a website where threads get locked or deleted with zero explanation.  Not every post is spam or obvious that it broke a TOS.  People need to learn from their mistakes.  Mod's should not hide behind anonymity.   If you are going to lock the thread any mod who does so should be the last to post in the thread and give a reason for locking it.  It's common courtesy for one and secondly it tells people what they did wrong so they learn from their mistake.

I mean if a rule was broken and their is a legit reason to lock a thread then no one should be ashamed to give a reason and lock it.  The problem is though that a lot of times certain mod's abuse their power, they know they don't have a legit reason to lock a thread so they do it anonymously.

So what does it take to be an Xbox MVP? Tony Hynes told us, "The most important qualities that we look for in an MVP are those who are respectful to others and have a positive attitude. In other words, does this person help his or her fellow gamers in the community? Is the community a better place because of their contributions?"

Re: Why your threads get locked, deleted, moved etc?
We have to delete/lock/ban several times a day LEGITIMATELY. Now, of those actions taken, just about all the people involved will have issue with what occurred. That means multiple people attacking us on a day-to-day basis. For the sake of our sanity, it's probably a good thing that we don't allow people to make things personal.

I've been blamed for several issues that I had no idea about but that's fine by me. We are all a part of a team and take the good with the bad for that team. I'm personally glad that people don't necessarily know that I've had to take action against them. I've had people threaten to meet me on my doorstep for things I didn't do, as it is.

Re: Banning us from posting - Sharing our own opinions, fancy that - Who would have thought that maybe we should be allowed to do that on a forum haha. How does shutting us up make us unbiased? I'm completely confused on that one. We don't close threads just because we may disagree with what people are saying. Just remember, it's HOW you say something that often matters.

Is it possible for a mod to lock every post but his/her own and make this a thread entirely about their own ideas/beliefs/values?

I don't care if I get banned for saying it. That's my opinion, that's my "attack", and that's my stubborn little mind unable to let go of the people that bother me. It feels good to say it, but is it actually good? Probably not.

Yep, it's amazing how it all changes. I still post nearly as much as I did before, I still like to help, give advice and generally just chat with everyone as normal whenever I can in the UK forums. All cool though, as it helps make a much better place for everyone in the end, free from abuse and personal attacks. Which I think is what everyone wants in the end. A fun place to chat Xbox and its games.

Well, it does sound a bit like a personal feud. We all probably have our members we don't much care about but dealing with such issues on public forums is a little, for a lack of a better word, unprofessional. In the end, this is just a place to talk with fellow gamers and have a good time. For every thread and post that is moderated, there are hundreds of others that aren't - life's too short to feel glum for those that weren't deemed appropriate by people hosting the party known as Xbox.com forums.
