You cannot use a Hub and a modem solo. Hub's do not assign IP addresses. What you would need after your modem is called a router.

Yes but everytime you switch the cable you need to reset the modem ether by pressing the reset button or unplugging the power and then restarting it.(see my first section of the guide about only having a modem.)

Ok, I tried doing that and it still doesn't work...Like I test it and it says that the DNS Failed...Help, it always does this, no matter what I do.

Looks like its not on the live end itself its certain ISPs. Please follow the instructions given by the support reps if you've talked to any ( try direct connecting to the modem if its possible). You might want to contact your ISPs tech support.

I don't understand how its ISPs are where the problems at? can you explain a little bit more? Cause it says its connecting to internet, just not Xbox Live...I dont think I can connect to the modem, but I have it connected to router.

Diffrent internet devices use diffrent ports. Like you maybe able to surf fine but there certain ports live needs to function even in its basic form. I still see a bit of people having issues. Have you called your ISP yet?

When you unplug the modem after you swap cables leave the power off for 30 seconds. Make sure your IP and DNS settings are on automatic.

Will this connection work?

I have a computer that's downstairs on the first floor that his hooked up directly to my cable modem, and a wireless router is also hooked up.

I have a computer in my room upstairs that recieves the internet through a wireless reciever.

Can I hook up my xbox  360 directly to the computer in my room that recieves the internet wirelessly from the computer downstairs using a usb cable, ethernet cable, lan cable or w/e cable is needed?

My boys aunty set up his xbox while we were away. She used her e mail which is no longer  available!!!!!!!!!

Now i cant change any of the settings as it want her e mail but every time i put her old 1 in, it just says not valid.

i ring support n they just say it doesnt matter?????? But it does fifa 08 wont let us on coz they say they have to be over 13. Please please please any 1 got any ideas. Ringin support is like bangin your head against a

Yes by using an ethernet cable and setting up bridging. I provided a link to someone earlyer in this thread labled as bridging.

You do not need to log into the email or anything. As long as its the email address used originally it will work.

for number 5. i just created an account and just bought a new 360 which was supposedly comin with 1 month free or 30 days whatever. how do i activate that cause i made the new account and it just says silver membership....

Its been pointed out that the profile needs to be made on the 360.

Yea the router would broadcast your internet and either the bridge or the offical MS adapter would pick it up.

 i gotta problem.   I havent' had my xbox hooked up to live for about 5 months.  I hooked it up today and i wanted to change some settings but in order to do that i have to do that log-in thing.  So i go to family settings, pick my profile and it tries to connect to live and fails.  I tried it with my brothers profile and it worked so i dont know why it wont connect on mine. anybody know?

 

Question for you Duzzy, or any others that could help, could you help me with the Windows ICS connections?  Here is the main problem, at our dorm we like to have Halo tournaments.  Just easy lan tournaments.  The thing is, is that there are two 360s down stairs hooked up to one big screen and one projector.  Those are both too far from the router to run cords.  Now, the wireless signal is pretty strong in that room.  If we used two laptops and used the windows ICS connections, would we be able to connect to the network?  If so, then it would give the avaliablity for more players.  I'm not 100% sure ICS is even the right setup that I need, but it sounds right.  I know I have heard of people doing it.  So the main questions I guess are,

1. Is ICS the right connection type I am looking for?
2. Would my proposed set up work?
3. If so, can you tell me what I need to look at or read to find out?

If the gamertag you were trying to log in with is Matt3857, then it won't connect to live because you have a silver account. Renew your subscription and you'll be good to go.

yea it would work except with wireless PCs you want to use briding because of NAT. For details on that i'll pass you off to shadowman's site (becuase its way in-depth and has screen shots

Does anyone know how I can get more than one account hoked into my live subscription? I can only get my one profile to play on line, so when I want to play any ranked game wit some friends I'm not able to.

You cannot. One gold account for one gold subscription.

Okay, so my brother bought a 360 yesterday. He migrated his Live account from hix Xbox to the 360. We were hoping that since he already had Live, I could use the free month trial that comes with every Xbox 360, but... how the heck do I get it if I can? Is it in the box, do I get it online...?

If you are on a Xbox, it will say that if you pick Sliver, then click Continue and there will be a question saying that there is a Free Month Xbox Live subscribtion there.
