Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Add me to the list.

My console stopped outputing a video signal about an hour after downloading the fall update.

Switching on and off fixed it for the first few times then it just stopped altogether.

I use the optical output for the audio which i can still hear. i have tried the console on my nephews setup and got no picture there either, so it aint the tv or the cables.

The 12month warranty expired at the end of Nov and i'm currently awaiting the coffin.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

I was playing Amped 3 the other week and the blue hue around everything started up. Then I rebooted and it has been fine since then until last night when I was playing Mass Effect. It happened again, like thousands of blue pixels around everything. I rebooted again and it was fine.

I suppose this is going to be my 3rd 360 to crap up on me and its out of warranty!! (1st two had the RROD)

I do everything I possibly can to keep this damned thing working, it has to be one of the most unreliable games consoles ever made!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

I have two consoles: first one was RRoD, sent it in under warrenty, got it back about 7 months ago, no problems since and it WAS under warranty.  Bougth a second one for my daughter, warranty expired about 2 months ago, now I have the "water color" video problem.  The screen turns in to water color painting as soon as we turn it on.  After a while (anywhere from a couple of minutes to 30 minutes) we loose the video signal all together.  Just got off the phone with Microsoft and they will be kind enough to charge my credit card $99 for fixing it - very nice of them.

The video problem originally came up while watching a dvd - I don't believe it is a specific game - but our problem started within days of update - coincidence?  I have switched out the two consoles - so I know it is not the TV.  I am going to switch out the cables - but we both know it ain't going to fix the problem.

Coffin is on the way.

Merry flippin  Christmas.

God help us each and every one!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I reported my problem on this forum yesterday, and until someone else mentioned the latest console update, I did not think of it.  No problems playing Halo 3.  Downloaded the update, then it could not have been more than 15 minutes later that I started having the color problem.  After 2 console re-starts in a 1 hour span, I got the black screen of death.  No red rings though (yet) - I'm hoping they show up soon.  Never thought I would hear myself saying that.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Has anybody got any kind of answer to why this is happening?

Looking at this thread it seems a lot of people have these kind of problems over a very short space of time - this says to me, something has made this happen... now is it certain games? Or is it the latest update? Or something else?

Or is it time to stick heads in the sand and pretend it is one big co-incidence?

Heck yeah man. The update is damn near mandatory and since then, this problem has become a common occurrence. I personally haven't found this problem in any forum before the update.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Everyone should definitely contact MS about these problems so maybe they'll fix it. I called "tech support" but the person I spoke with was no help. I asked to speak with her manager or boss but was told they were unavailable. How absurd is that?!?! I sent my email 20 minutes ago so maybe I'll hear something soon. I don't think it's any games in particular since everybody has complained about it happening with so many different ones. Just my opinion though.....

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Add me to the list.  Happened last night.  Little side note-while talking to the guy from 800 4my-xbox,  he was filling out all the info to get the coffin sent to me when I happened to walk by the controller sitting on the table.  All the times before Ive been turning it on by the console button.  Tried turning it on with the controller and the dreaded red rings poped up.  Good news since now its covered under warranty.  So give it a few tries, maybe it will save someone a few bucks if the same thing happens to them.

Same thing just happened to me. I called Xbox support and I am 7 days out of my warantee.... I can't believe I am going to have to pay 100$ for this. I would assume if all these people are having this problem, that they would do free reapairs... Well at least it was in time for the holidays... -_-

i have about 6 replies so far, all saying they can fix it for $$'s. and they virtually all say have you tried anoter video cable (even tho every email i send states i've tried 3 different cables, tvs, and power supplies)
finally got a different answer today stating that there is not a high enough incident rate for it to be there problem....

the RROD extended warranty didnt happen because people happily shelled out money to get their boxes fixed, it happened because enough people complained to the media, consumer affairs groups, and to microsoft.

keep sending emails, keep refusing to pay for your box to be fixed, keep the pressure up and then they may rectify the problem at a cost to their pocket, not ours.

it sucks been with out my xbox, i love it. it has been a great games machine, and a great dvd machine. and i am currently missing it dearly, xmas day me and my family will miss it even more when we get new games!

but i WILL NEVER pay for this to be fixed.

spread the word and get your friends to start sending hem emails as well. post things on your myspace and facebook pages.

MS must do something about this!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

I'll take back my earlier statement that I thought it was the December update. Looking back at when I played Amped 3 last (late November), the colours were all messed up then so it is doubtful (in my case anyway) that the update has crapped up my system.

I played Halo 3 solid for a few hours last night and the 360 worked fine. It's weird!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
it seems to me this problem has been caused by the last update i doubt all our xbox's would have not shown symptoms of this before the update and now there dropping like flies , also the update did alter the grahical display and even if there was some patch that could correct the systems display well its too late we cant install anything becuase the graphics are gone , unless we randolmly pressed buttons and hoped it installed it.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Throw another xbox on this pile.  Just called support and they are sending me a coffin.  This is the second time this has happened now.  Not very impressed.  I highly doubt there will be any xbox action over this Christmas season...Nice.

The support rep also advised me that MS is offering an extended warranty for $29 (1 year).  I was pretty upset that they are trying to sell a warranty for a system that obviously has a flaw.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
add my console to this list!! what is going on?? mine started getting wierd green double images first on fri ngt then within 10 mins i had this black screen of death, tried everything as have all of you and still nothing!! the worrying thing  i thought i should let you all know about thougth is on sunday night a friend lent me his spare console to use for a few weeks which was all workin fine before he bought it to my house, so i very happily stuck my hard drive on top and turned on and instantly had the same problem, that damn black screen but with all sound!!! NITEMARE!!!! first reaction was its my tv thats the problem but have now tried both of my consoles on a friends tv using all their leads and had exactly the same, just the black screen with sound so now my freinds console is down as well as mine, nooooooo!!!!!  so is this problem staying on the hard drive????? if this is the case when we get our consoles back apparently fixed and stick on our h drives we will have the same problem still????? this is not good news m soft need to act now on this and work out what the *** is going on!!!!!!!!

Dude...the same thing happened to my Xbox 360.  The only difference is that I tried to download Jay-Z's Roc Boyz video and the damn screen just blacked out on me.  I tried calling support but all they did was tell me about some technique for resetting the console screen settings.  That didn't work either.  I am so pissed.  I still have my warranty but if they can't fix it this time I'm gonna ask for a refund.  I don't even want this trash if its not going to work.  Microsoft needs to fix this or I'm sticking to Sony from now on...

Add me to the list as well. It happened to me about a month ago right after I started playing Halo 3. I have been doing the towel trick each time it happens and it makes the xbox playable for a few hours or until i shut it off. Then the video goes dead on me. I've been waiting to see if it would go RRoD but Im tired of this and am going to call xbox for my coffin today.

I did the very same thing yesterday and within 24 hours UPS had sent me an e-mail with a label attached I have printed this out and I am going to find my own box and put the xbox in it securely padded etc. Then I am to attach this label to the box and take it to a UPS drop off point. They will also pick it up but you have to arrange it, when you get this email you should get a receipt too with a tracking number on it.

I think this is more of a UK arrangement, in the US you wait for them to send you a box.

Good luck.

just got my xbox back yesterday...Hooked it up and it works fine....I had the same problem as you guys..I had to pay 100 bucks..It took three weeks from start to finish..They gave me a 1year warranty on the console..I think they replaced everything inside because it is no way near as loud as it used to be. However I still have my doubts that it will continue to work without issue. Ill keep everyone posted...Game On!!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Well I guess that Microsoft is getting what they wanted. My parents have bought me a bunch of stuff for my Xbox 360 for Christmas this year, and after finding out I would have to pay 100$ to get it fixed, and not be able to have it until well after the holidays, they decided to just go buy a new one. I will probably get the one I have now fixed eventually, but my parents didn't want me to have a crappy Christmas this year.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
i have a 360 elite and i hook it up to my hd tv with the hdmi cable that it came with. After i installed the last update the the xbox restarted and there was no picture or sound. I had to go back to the av cables and change my display from 1080p to 1080i. Microsoft will not address the problem. I tried calling them multiple times but cannot get any answers. Everyone is basically on their own. I have had my xbox for not even 3 months and Im already having problems with microsoft. I hope they release a fix for thie stupid update because this is a bunch of bs.
