Here is an interesting e-mail I got from Gamestop that I thought I would share for those of you having the same problem as me:
Dear Joe,
Thank you for contacting GameStop.com.
I dont know what more we can tell you. EA makes the codes, they send
the
codes to us, and we give the codes out to customers who pre ordered the
game. There is no code that Gamestop makes or comes out with for
individual games, they are always given to us by the manufacturer. We
do
apologize for the run around that is not our intent at all. Obviously
it
is very frustrating for us as well when EA is not taking responsibility
for something they make and they put their mistake on the retailer.
There has been a case of a customer talking to 4 different EA customer
service agent, where one finally admit there was a problem and sent
them
an extra code which worked perfectly. I would recommend actually
calling EA and talking to a manager if the agent on the phone denies
you
a code.
