I still love my 2K5.  I'm on my 21'st season with over 400 hours of total gameplay.  However...

After hearing about the online franchise mode in Madden 10, with the ability to manage my team from ANYWHERE.  I hate to admit it, but I will pick up Madden this year, to play franchise mode with my pals.

The one thing I want in online franchises/leagues - which is yet to happen - is the ability to have AI teams. In that, if it's just one friend and I, I don't want to play in a 2-team league (or 8-team or whatever). I want to play in a 30-team league with full 16-game schedule, but I don't want to have most of the league be strangers or have to find a league that is douche-free, etc.

Ideally, you could even set it such that another person can always play against your team (ie, if I'm the Raiders, any other person in my league can play whomever the Raiders are playing against each week). This is something I used to do all the time offline in both NFL and NHL games (until EA got rid of season mode in NHL).

I want to be able to entirely replicate what I can do offline, online.

But that's getting off topic for the thread.

There are 32 NFL teams, bro Wink [;)]

I haven't heard specifics regarding the online league, I hope you're wrong regarding the having to play with strangers.  That would indeed suck.  About 16 of my friends are lined up to play, but I'd hate to have to play with 16 other jerkbags.

If cars had the same development as computers, they would cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year.

when does the contract expire, next year (the NFL rights for EA?) I know that it was a 5 year or maybe 6 year deal, but Take 2/Visual Concepts struck back by getting the MLB exclusive rights through 2012. Good thing the NBA or NHL hasnt done that. I love 2K series for all sports, other than golf :)

If the NFL and NFLPA are unable to come up with a new CBA then I think the contract will become void.  I also wonder if the gaming stuff will creep into the CBA negotiations especially with how the retired players sued them after finding out they teamed up with EA to *** them out of video game $$$$.

The game is still awesome. I just got it for 0.99 yesterday. Still looks and plays like a dream. Played my first online match in like 4 years and got destroyed. Anyone ever want to play just hit me up. GT is saved37.

The dumbasses over at EA said when Madden 2010 comes out it will forever put to bed whether 2K5 was a better game.

1. That is basically an admittance that they were making an inferior product and knew it

2. That is saying they weren't trying after they got the NFL license and don't care.

3. They are on crack if they think that piece of *** with the same problems that it has had for the last 15 years will be better.

Oops, yeah I get the 32 mixed up with NHL sometimes (has 30).

What I meant was not that you'd have to have 32 people in total always, but that if you want 32 teams, you do have to play with 31 other people.

What I'd like, is to be able to replicate offline seasons, online. What I always did was start a season where I was a team, and a friend had a team, and we played through the season either against the computer (but as part of the same league/season) or one of us just played the opponent. So basically you could play through a 32-team, 16-game season with only two actual human players.

But all the online seasons/leagues don't allow for that, such that if you only have four people, there are only four teams and an accomodating schedule.  You should be able to play 32 teams with simmed games, CPU opponents, and drop-in/out gameplay such that you can have full leagues and schedules with less than 32 people involved.

Um, no.  2k5 was a better game 5 years ago.

Here is a brand new trailer from those folks at EA for the new Madden 10.  Watch it and listen to them.

Madden 10 "Everything you see on Sunday"

I think it's funny they're talking about how important the presentation is in this years Madden.  Referees interaction, fans, injuries, player interviews, coaches, etc... things that have never before been in Madden!  They emphasize how important those things are and how they NEED to be in there.

Hey guys, 2k5 had it.  Better late than never I suppose. Smile [:)]

Madden 10' still haven't improve in the physics department. They aren't done properly. If you really pay attention to gameplay videos, some of the animations simply doesn't make sense and consistently ignores the physics and players attributes. The attributes should play a role in the new pro tak.  I shouldn't see receiver breaking tackles from two LB or Terrance Newman tackle Clinton Portis bringing his momentum forward and then randomly fall backwards.

I'll wait until Ian has two years under his belt and improve the physics because it appears to me that EA still haven't address the physics.  The presentations and atmosphere should of been on Madden 06' much like the trailer shown a few years ago during a NFL Draft.

My 360 is still out being repaired, so I've been spending some quality time with my original black box.

Just finishing up my 21st 2k5 season, well over 400 hours of total playtime and I just can't get enough of this game!

I am picking up this years Madden, only because they've turned it into 2K style presentation and for the online dynasty mode.  But ESPN 2K5 will always have a special place in my heart.

I admire your principles, but I gotta admit, Madden 10 turned out really well this year.  I've been playing M10 on my 360 and 2K5 on my original Xbox....here's what I'm seeing:

2K5
--Better running game
--Better play in the trenches
--The presentation is still King; can't beat Berman and the ESPN studio presentation and the replays
--Too many pass deflections "That's his SIXTH batted ball!"
--Stadium specific sounds

M10
--Graphics are pretty amazing (tho 2k5 still holds up well, but IMO it took Madden THIS long to finally look better)
--Presentation is a HUGE improvement, even a homage to 2K5, but still needs refinement
--Gameplay is actually really fun and compelling once you dial in the sliders, which are VERY powerful this year.
--Online matches seem more stable this year, Madden 09 was a broken piece of crap online last year. I've played a few games with no issues at all.

I could go on listing +'s and -'s for each game, but the bottom line is that Madden 10, IMO, is a lot of fun this season, looks great, and has improved in a lot of areas, and yeah, still needs work in others.  But this is the best game of Madden I've ever played.

2K5 still edges it as a complete package (it's still got it's flaws, too), but EA finally closed the gap on 2k5 quite a bit this year.  If you want to keep going on 2k5 this season, go on, it's not been kicked off the throne yet.  But Madden 10 plays a good game this year, and is fun.

Well that's 5 years worth of playtime.  When there was a time in between big game releases on the 360, I always pop in 2K5 on the ol black box.  21 seasons, no simulations, I played EVERY SINGLE GAME. Big Smile [:D]

Heck, I just play through the season mode just to get to the Draft/Trade/etc stuff!  It's always exciting to see what players retire and ask for more money the next season.

Re: I miss ESPN NFL 2K5
only thing besides presentation 2K ever really had on Madden (next gen) was player movement and physics, clearly far and away from anything Madden has been able to do, Madden's running motions have been ugly on next gen, (then again, 2K has always had a very ugly running motion too) the only difference was that 2K's player movement when trying to cutback, Juke, elude, lower the shoulder, etc. has always been above that of Madden.

on the flip side, 2K has always had far and away the most terrible playbooks on earth, completely outdated with a plethora of things you might have seen in the late 80's and early 90's. The strategic element of the game never really matched up with that of Madden. in Madden 10 the coverage zones make sense, and you can actually drop a pass in the corner if you're QB is good enough to do it, I'm a colts fan, so Manning passes a lot, and I've never had any real problems putting it over the CB's head in the corner to a receiver but ahead of the safety, in previous year, a corner could be covering the flats specifically but at the same time because of the terrible engine, have the capabilities to cover the corner routes too.

I have 2K5 and APF, didn't bother taking APF with me to college, did take 2K5 with me though, I feel Madden 10 is the better game, but sometimes it's nice to switch up and play something different, which is why every once in a while I'll put 2K5 in and have a go, just to feel something different.

For all you guys whining about how it's "impossible" to run the ball in Madden -

Marshall Faulk said on NFL network's "NFL Total Access" about his runningback coach teaching him that hitting the hole fast wasn't the right strategy, you wait for the hole and accelerate through it, just like you do in practice. He also said a lot of runningbacks make the mistake of seeing the hole, getting excited, and hitting it to fast, not allowing their blocking to fully develop.

Reason I say this is, it transfers to the game, A lot of people get the handoff, and are already holding the right trigger, and the fact is, you're going to run into a defensive player because you haven't let your blocking fully develop. never hold sprint until the hole opens up and you can accelerate through the hole. I use the Indianapolis Colts, 31st overall in Rush offense last year, on the game it transitions the same, it's tough to run the football with the Indianapolis colts because their offensive line just gets pushed around against solid competition (when you're trying to actually run the football, different while passing), but not running into my blocks, being patient, and running the ball like they teach you to run the ball helps me have a decent to good running game.

The only thing offensively I don't like in this game is the fact Guys like Fitz have a tough time outjumping competition, in 08 when they first brought it in it was nice, but it was WAY to effective, now it's almost useless, although there will be times where you can get it.

Solid, Solid game Madden 10 is.

The speed of the game (player wise) reminds me a lot of 2K5, where I had trouble running down TO in the open field with his somewhat low speed, and the same applies in Madden this year.

That would be the case if the blockers didn't ignore the player in front of them for someone else downfield or just turning around randomly for no reason at all.

This is simply crazy-talk.  Calling 2K5 trash and claiming the Madden series is superior is outlandish and makes no sense at all.  2K5 is one of the best football games I have ever played.  Even Madden 10 doesn't come close to how good 2K5 is.

And the strange thing about it is that I've been playing Madden for more than 8 plus years and bought every Madden since Madden 03-09.  I've played the Madden series more than 2K and gave up on Madden when Madden-Defected-Trash-09 was released and sold that trash.  Thereafter, I bought 2k5 and APF2K8 (late 2008) and I must say 2k just knows how to make football games, unlike EA.  When I play 2k5 or APF2K8 I feel like I'm playing something real because the physics and gameplay are well executed, unlike the Madden series, which completely ignores gameplay and physics.

The Madden series is simply garbage compared to 2k football.  I will NEVER buy another Madden game again because the it's the same garbage yearly -- not to mention the constant freezing issues.
