Same here: BenQ G2400W + HDMI = no sound, and the screen is just a bunch of green pixels, can't see a thing. In my case the latest workaround (switching to VGA/DVI and back) only fixes video, not audio.

Just tried 5 minutes waiting trick on Benq G2400W and it worked for me. I'm getting sound via HDMI right now.

at the moment i use the HDMI-Calbe + HDMI Audio Cable together and with a 2 component audio to headphone jack cable to get the audio working again though its quite a cable tangle.

then i have to select the other audio input on my ProLite 2403ws and it works.

CORRECTION: The trick fixes both video and audio for me. Still a royal pain to have to do this at every startup.

I connect via HDMI cable and am receiving no sound whatsoever.

Just before the download began I had perfect sound on COD4, then after the X-Box restarted... nothing. I've tried the Y & RT and also removing the HDD both to no avail.

Also, on the Display Settings it is in resolution rather HDTV settings. I have the XBox Elite and it is only 8 months old.

With all the other complaints about the same issue. I doubt it is something to do with the hardware because Microsoft will have to a lot of repairs on the hands.

Please fix this quickly!

It's not the cables.  It's the update.  Misinformation.

NEXT.

I'm sorry I misspoke indeed the NXE update is what rendered the HDMI audio functionality useless (for some people).

Re: No Audio at All post-NXE for HDMI connection to BenQ G2400W Monitor (via headphone jack)
First of all, I had the same thing happen to me.  I have the temp fix of detaching the hard drive while off then turning on and plugging in.  So far that is keeping me sane.

Second, I have to say I'm unimpressed by NXE especially since it was released with this big issue.  It's not worth it even if it doesn't have the issue.  I think it just makes the 360 seem more flashy but it really does nothing.

Lastly, please no one call the customer service.  It's the biggest waste of time!  Some of the most infuriating crap I have ever experienced.  The first guy I get is Indian with a heavy accent.  Stuttering and deff reading a script.  He put me on hold 5 times for about 2 mins a piece.  He must have asked for my name like 3 times.  Then couldn't understand what a Vizio tv was.  Honestly?  I must have said it like 8 times.  Spelled it out every time.  Even after that, he just sat on the phone, probably going through canned scripts and saying things like "ummm, what receiver are you using?".  Then after 30 mins I finally get to a manager.  A manager trained to say I will escalate that for you.  We will call you in 48 hours.  I'm like wow, after 1 hour on the phone I get a manager.  That tells me there is nothing we can do.  I try to ask questions like is this an issue that has occured before?  "We can contact you in 48 hours because it has to be escalated".  You didn't answer my freaking question.  Then I tell her, hey your associate has no clue what he was doing and made me wait on the phone and did about nothing.  After that?  Nothing.  Just repeating someone will contact me.

Honestly I wanted to just throw my 360 out of the window.  Putting broke Indian people on Customer Service without any knowledge of the product and hardly a grasp of the English language is just totally annoying.  They don't have compassion.  It hasn't been scripted in their little online manuals with "Well Mr ummm, Mr ummm Mr _________?  We can have someone call you."  Total crap.  Avoid at all cost!

the fix does work

i have a BenQ G2400W Monitor and this is the solution to make sound work. Turn on your 360 in DVI mode on your monitor, leave it to run for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes is up change it to your HDMI output and you will have sound. you will have to do this everytime you boot up your 360.

this is only a temporary solution until a patch is relased

My Vizio is hooked up through hdmi because my component cables run in my hd dvr machine.  Microsoft fix this soon because I won't be playing anything until it is fixed.  This is really frustrating.

glad that this method can help someone else, and sorry I didn't say it clearly:

1,turn off the console, connect to the hdmi via
2,swith the monitor to DVI or VGA
3,turn on the console, keep your monitor on and still output at DVI or VGA
4then wait several minutes(about 5 minutes or more),then switch back to the HDMI

disappointed that I need to wait 5 minutes everytime before I start my game

A method I found on another site that worked for me was:

While the console is booting up, keep the y button and the right trigger held down. This will restart your system (hopefully) with sound, as it did with mine. I think this is for resetting the display settings or something.

Only a temporary fix though, as you have to do it every time.

Today, I had to do it twice to get the sound working, so don't give up if it didn't work the first time around.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this works.  Unfortunately, this is unacceptable of Microsoft and NXE.  Nice temp. fix though. Thanks!

Same goes for my Hannspree HF199H 19" widescreen monitor. (and to make things worse, the GH/RB leagues are coming up soon -- music games!) I hope this gets resolved quickly. I have no decent alternative right now.

Well, it's the end of Day 2 post-NXE and while the problem isn't fixed yet, it's nice to see ppl coming up with more temporary workarounds. Haven't tried the "leave it on d-sub/dvi for 5 min then switch to HDMI" trick yet, but as long as we keep this topic going, maybe we'll see the fix sooner than later.

Ugh, time limits for edit. That's nice.

I wanted to add that:
- The Y + RT trick does not work. (if it does, please provide details on when exactly to press and hold those)
- The monitor I mentioned (again, it's Hannspree HF199H) only accepts HDMI input and a standard monitor cable, so I don't think I can do the 5 minute trick.

Waiting for a while with the Xbox turned on before switching to HDMI does indeed work on the Benq G2400W. To people who found a workaround: it would probably be good to mention
  1. the workaround you used
  2. the monitor you have
  3. the xbox model you have
so we can map workarounds to monitor and xbox models, if such mappings exist. I'm going to try a binary search tonight to find an optimal wait period, just because five minutes sounds kind of ridiculous for whatever processing it has to do before it can complete (unless there's an arbitrary timeout somewhere in the system.)

So, what worked for me:
  1. Wait for a number of minutes (5+) after console is turned on before switching monitor to HDMI input.
  2. Benq G2400W
  3. Premium 60GB

I haven't downgraded yet on my Elite and am worried, especially hearing of this news. I've been against the NXE since day one, don't like the look or functionality which I can confirm absolutely since updating my secondary 360 but I guess if I ever want to stream my media on my PC to the 360 in the living room, gonna have to downgrade my Elite.

My question is: How widespread is this issue? I don't mean to trivialize the issue (As Microsoft and everyone else may like to, "Oh, it's your console, or wires, your internet, your moniter, etc," bullshit). But from what I'm reading it doesn't sound like it's that universal but rather sort of contained to a few brands/models.

From all the research I've done, I seen two mentions of Samsungs. I have a 42" Samsung LCD that my Elite is hooked up to through the HDMI... Is there reason for me to be concerned about video or sound loss? Right now that is my main reason from downgrading  my Elite.

Hi all :)

Xbox 360 elite and Prolite B2403WS owner here. Same problem as everyone : sound before NXE and no sound after the NXE.(HDMI connection for video and sound, no other option for sound output). I checked the sound ouptut of the screen in PC configuration and it's ok. This is definitively a NXE bug for me.

I must precise that neither the HDD switch or the Y-Right trigger video reset manipulation are working for me, even if i repeat this operation many time. The 3rd option is not available since my xbox can only be connected to the screen by the HDMI cable.

I was considerating buying The Last Remnant today but as long as there is no fix, i won't buy new games anymore. I may be limited but as i pay to play a game, i want both sound and video....

I already read that microsoft was preparing a fix for this issue. Is there an official confirmation for that somewhere?

I guess that if we consider all the buzz around the NXE and the failure of this "new experience", microsoft will quickly do something about it, right?
Hope so.

Have a nice day everyone ;)

I'm having BenQ G2400W as well, tried the 5mins workaround. It works now ! thx.

But surely Microsoft needs to address this issue and provide a fix and quick. I only bought this xbox 2days ago and really thinking to refund it and get a PS3 instead.

The screen is made by Samsung according to ebuyer.com

Samsung do make a lot screens for lesser known brand names.

The stepford wife woman i spoke to at microsoft wants me togive her 60 quid to fix it cos its not red lights so the 3 year warranty dont cover it, EVEN THOUGH SHE SAID IT MUST BE A FAULTY MACHINE??.
