around $100 if not less. as long as it has some kind of warranty and still has the Microsoft sticker behind the face plate.

I don't get that.   Mine is outside of the 3 year warranty and when I go to request a repair it says $99.99 and requires my credit card information for payment.   When I called xbox, they said that it would indeed be $99.99 because I'm outside the 3 year warranty, no way around it.

Yeah that's weird.   Sounds like you got lucky somehow in switching around the registration.   I read at another site where people were saying if you do it in a very precise way (the re-registration) then the warranty will somehow still be offered.   The site that was posted at is one where most of the advice they give will get one banned from xbox live though so I guess I'll plop down my 100 bones and live with it in order to have my xbox working again.

Thanks for replying anyway.

I posted on here a little while ago about me sending my xbox 360 because it had E74, someone said that wouldnt even look at it, but i sent it in about a week and a half ago, it got there on monday, and today i recived the email saying that it has been fixed and they just sent it back today. But the only problem is, it says my warrenty expires 11/24/2009, thats not a very long "year" warrenty....

Its a service warranty and is only 90 days. Its not the same as buying a new one, which is a year. However, if you RROD or E74 with the fixed box, they'll still fix it for free if its within the 3 years.

What I find annoying is that when you go to request a repair if its outside the initial purchase year warranty, it says expired, but the 3 year still applies. Its a big misnomer to people.

That's good to hear. Expired warranty scared me a bit. I thought I would actually have to pay something after having my xbox for only a year.

Lol I laugh. I had my ps3 since launch, and never had any problems with it, and I got my 360 in August because my friend wanted me to get one so I got it. Then bam a month later E74? Whats this crap? M$ needs to make a more reliable console.

So when the PS3 doesn't break, then what? I guess I could get another 360 and see what happens. I bet I know which one will break first (hint: the console has an "X" in it).

I'm with you, I'm not spending yet another $100 to get a Microsoft design flaw fixed.  I've already sold everything but the broken console and used the money to buy a PS3.  Not spending $50 a year for access to the Playstation Network looks good to me as well.

As long as it's not older than the warranty period.   You didn't have to sign up for the warranty, it came with the xbox.

Kind of misses the point though, if the poster was being honest then when he attempted to repair the box himself, the E74 extended coverage had not been added on so the repair was NOT covered.

So he could have paid the $100 to get it fixed or broken the seals, one or the other.   Now those who could afford to pay the $100 when it wasn't covered get that refunded to them while those who couldn't afford the $100 and tried to fix it themselves are screwed.

Doesn't make much sense.

BTW, it's incredible that people who supposedly work for xbox can post a reply like this but hardly any posts presenting problems with the repair process, the warranty process, etc get a single response from someone who "works for xbox".

If you actually DO work for xbox, maybe you could be more helpful by responding to topics that actually DO require response from Xbox employees that never get responses rather than just posting stuff like this which is debateable in its accuracy to begin with and doesn't really help any customer at all.

It's incredible how little response any real issues get a single reply from an actual xbox employee in these forums unless it's about bans or something that has nothing to do with any real issue.

Original owner here...one of the SUCKERS that paid more for a 'pro' console than the 'elites' cost now...

Ok, console number 8 just died!  Got the 3 red lights...again.  Logged on to schedule a repair only to find out my warranty is expired for a console that I recieved (as a warranty replacement from xbox) on 10-04-07.  Sounds like that should be within the above mentioned 3 year time frame.  Yet the 'service' option will only allow me to send in as an 'after warranty repair'.  Planning on calling the service line on monday and hope that they haven't 'lost' all my repair history again.  Any suggestions?

in my experience they won't tell you any different than what the site shows you. As  when you try to get somewhere with saying something and they keep repeating the same 2-3 lines of what's on their screen. So ask for a supervisor as soon as you give them your name.

yes, I think I have learned how to 'deal' with 'customer service' over the last 7 returns.  The difficult thing to deal with is that they can't seem to find the records for any 'previous' returns???  Good thing I kept copies of all the S/Ns and everything.  :)

I am really frustrated because we are just now receiving the E74 error message and there is no coverage.  We own two Xbox 360's and one Xbox (income tax money, late Christmas presents throughout the years).  Guess which one is working right now?  The Xbox!  The second Xbox 360 has the single red flashing light with no error message and none of the support tips work.  This is very frustrating and expensive.  No more games (generally used because new is too expensive, as well) and I have a 13 year old who is a major Halo fan.  Bah, I am really frustrated with two being out at once.

If you don't get anywhere with the script monkies try asking for a supervisor!

I just used pure common sense when packing, slightly larger box than the xbox 360 and packing to fill up the gaps!
I wrapped the xbox 360 in bubble wrap and filled in the rest of the space in the box with shredded paper!
