Why? What's wrong with it?

There's nothing wrong with it, I was just saying that to point out how fantastic this monitor is. As in... no need to make a study of what the best option is because I've got the answer for you.

I'm sorry if you thought I was hating on your guide because it's absolutely correct on most stuff..

Truth is I've been looking for the best monitor to use for a loooong time. I've tried dozens literally, monitors from friends, in stores and even at work lol..

The Acer H223HQ suits the 360 best, hands down.

Please forgive me asking this if someone has already answered it. I did not read the whole 4 pages and the guide does not cover using a HDMI cable to connect the 360 to your monitor.

I have a 22" Acer Ferrai with DVI and HDMI connections. I would like to connect my Xbox 360 to the monitor using the HDMI connection.

How do I get the audio to my home theater receiver?

My Acer monitor does not have any sound outputs.

That's because it's mainly aimed at VGA users as noted in the first paragraph of the thread.

What is it specifically you are having difficulty with?

New PC Monitor.. NEED HELP PLEASE
I purchased a Acer 21.5'' PC Monitor.

This monitor has built in speakers, Audio In (BLUE CIRCLE), HDMI, VGA and DVI Input.

My problem is, I want to hook my Xbox 360 up to this monitor WITHOUT USING THE PC (COMPUTER).  If I hook my Xbox 360 to this monitor using the HDMI wire, how can I get sound while using my 2.1 PC Speakers WITHOUT hooking the speakers to a cPC (COMPUTER).

I am aware that HDMI send video and audio.  Yes the monitor has built in speakers however the sound is horrible as expected.  I want to use (BUY) PC speakers.  But I am not sure how to hook the speakers up without connecting it to a PC.

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to connect the computer speakers directly to the back of the monior using the green audio cable from the speakers.

How do you like your Acer monitor? The 21.5" is the one sold at Target. right?

Depends on where you live. You can probably find one online for around £10-20.

EDIT: I only have the moniter but would I need a PC?

No.

Re: Guide to using a PC monitor with Xbox 360

Thank you so much for your help!

I called radio shack the other day to ask if they sold a cable for this and they actually said, "No. You can't play xbox360 on a computer monitor." I had to hold back from telling him he was wrong.

Last time I'll be asking them for help...

Re: Guide to using a PC monitor with Xbox 360
I'm very glad that the VGA cable accessory for the XBox360 is available, are there any plans to add additional 4:3 aspect resolutions for those of us using larger PC monitors and non-widescreen LCDs? 1280x960 for letterboxed 720p/D4 and 1920x1440 for letterboxed 1080p /D5 content would be very much appreciated. More output resolutions to fit the native resolutions of recent LCD panels would be wonderful as well. Also, to clean up the interface a bit, perhaps showing only the resolutions that fit the user's selected aspect ratio (5:4 std lcd, 4:3, 16:9 wide tv, 16:10 wide monitor) would be nice.

Im useing a LG w2753v-pf lcd widescreen monitor it supports 1080p and I have no problems with it. But what would be sick is if xbox would come out with a program that allows the xbox 360 to run a triple screen setup. Now that would be sweet!!!!!!! It would make all the racing and shooter games that much better.

I have seen the cable for about $40. It's cheaper on Ebay.

I have a 22" Acer Ferrai LCD Monitor and I have my Xbox 360 connected using a HDMI cable that I got off of Ebay and the using the Microsoft Audio/Optical Adapter purchased from ebay.

The games look so awesome in 1080P.

I had my 360 connected to monitor using a HDMI>DVI cable. It worked fine for a year and now all I get is a black screen. I thought the cable might have gone bad...got a new cable and same problem. And I know it’s not the DVI input in my monitor because I tested it by connecting to my computer. It works fine with the computer. What could be the problem...why did it just stop working??? Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried connecting your Xbox 360 to any other display device? Other ports? (ie: VGA, SDTV, etc).

What were the results?

I bought the official MS vga cable for the xbox and attached it to my Samsung hdtv that I just purchased.  I found that the picture was really washed out.  I could never get it to the quality of the component cables.  I'm don't really understand the reason for this?  I thought that Microsoft had corrected this issue long ago?

Re: Guide to using a PC monitor with Xbox 360
Well this is what my monitor says.

Display both digital and analog content using the DVI-D with HDCP and VGA connectivity

I'd assume that means I'd be able to hook the xbox I'm buying, to my Monitor with this wire. Please let me know If I am correct.

If all that works, I want to hook my speakers up to everything, below, I have listed the Source inputs for my speakers.

Would I have to buy like a coaxial cable to hook it up to the xbox?

  • Source Inputs:
Digital optical for DVD or CD players, PlayStation®2, Xbox®**
Digital coaxial for DVD or CD players or PC sound cards (requires coaxial cable, sold separately)
6 channel direct (3 stereo-mini connectors) for 2, 4, or 6 channel PC sound cards OR
6 channel direct (3 stereo-mini connectors) for 3 stereo analog mini audio sources, like CD and DVD players, Playstation 2, Xbox, or 2 channel PC sound cards (somedevices may require stereo mini to dual RCA adapter, sold separately)
Analog stereo-mini (on side panel of control center) for portable CD, MP3,or MiniDisc® players

  • Using the above cable you mentioned you can just plug in the red and white connections into your amplifier or get an adaptor to convert the red and white connectors into a phono pin and plug that into your mic port. I believe the required adaptor is already mentioned in the article I wrote up.

I'm using a LG HDTV with a HDMI cable and I don't have any colour issues (it looks more washed out on my PC monitor), try playing about with your TV's settings.

I honestly cannot for the life of me tell you the answer to this problem.

In all honesty the Xbox 360 does not officially support DVI so it's most likely an incompatibility issue if your HDMI/DVI ports work on other devices.

I have my 360 plugged into my speakers, but I have a green audio wire that comes out of my speakers that is built into the speakers and it is usually plugged into my computer, I don't know what to do to that wire.

You don't need to do anything with it. You don't use that wire to connect to your Xbox 360.

You either plug the red and white connectors to your speakers, or add an adaptor to the red and white connectors to convert it into the same connector as the lead you're describing and plug that into your speakers. You should never have to plug anything from your speakers into your Xbox 360 (except a Digital Optical Cable).

There should be pictures of the adaptor in the guide.

If you're using a decent TV you can however plug that green cable from your speakers into your TV and get sound through your speakers that way. The TV will most likely control the volume.

That could work if you can't plug the red and white leads from your cable into your speakers..

Why is this information not listed on the Xbox 360 VGA product page?

I agree. I have a nice 20" VGA/Digital monitor. I even have a HDMI to Digital cable. When I tried it the 360 would display the image, of course, there was no sound output. I'll buy another cable if needed. Wait, is there a cable I want. OK I'll go look around but I'll leave this here to track any answers. Great guide, BTW
