Ok so I got my RRoD after the update that was planed on the 16th.  My box doesn't show the e74 error but will they still fix it even if it isn't the e74?  Also does all boxes come with the 3 year warranty after buying it?

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
I always wonder if by repair, they mean take the covers off, clean the heat sinks, replace the fans and seal it back up again.

The more I think about it the more it makes sense that the heat sinks are causing the overheating issues.
Which might also make sense if tied to their predictions on failure rates, I mean some houses are naturally going to have more dust particles depending on where you live, some are air conditioned and some have air purifiers.

It would have been nice to have some type of drop in dust filter that was accessable by the consumer.
Then just lower the temp that the unit switches off and put in "Must clean dust filter periodically" within the manual.

Just my two cents, I might be off base, but it seems like it makes sense, what other systems that have a heat sink don't give you access to them? Laptops usually have access panels to allow the consumer to clean off the heatsinks when they get dirty.

all phones now, unless you still use something from before World War 2, have letters above the numbers on the keypad type the number that has the matching letter from the US/CANADA xbox support number.

Very small? my original xbox got it, and my friends xbox have got it and we live right next to each other and got them at completely different times from different stores, So I doubt its that small of a percentage and yes it has already had RROD.

Also they didn't repair it when I got it got it again so I didn't even send it in I just got a new one

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
okay here i go. i have had 7 systems in which have all fried out in less than 3 years tougather. IS there something wrong with that?? i have had rrod 6 times including my one 2day in 2 mins of talking 2 my friend. this was first time i got on this system since i got it back a week ago. i couldnt use it til today mainly because i didnt have a power cord that fits the newer xboxs. So i barrowed my friends. the funny thing about that is the suposed back order on power cords said i couldnt get my own til about a week from now. so somehow i ended up with it this morning. that power cord didnt work. So i just used my friends in which i knew worked. So i played this morning and in the time span of less than 5 mins my system froze. i got the dumb e74 again. I AM A HUGE FAN OF RROD as you can see....

i also have lost about 2 months of xbox live time which i have to waste more money to get that back. this system is starting to extremely annoy me. So this warranty extension is it only for those who have a warrenty with xbox or with anything at all? I am wondering if possible could i get the refund for having to buy a insurance policy more than 4 times?

im far from an expert on this but i am pretty sure you don't need a receipt

i bought mine in dec. 06 and it went bad a few months ago but i didnt know about the 3 year warranty until a few days ago. So a few days ago i registered it online and all i needed was the serial number, and they knew when i bought it. i got my label in the mail today and am sending xbox out tomorrow

so far its been easy. i really hope i get the same one back bc i made sure to take damn good care of it and i dont want one that has been abused. we will see

but long story short you dont need a receipt just a serial number

So, lets say my girlfriend got her xbox 2 years ago and never updated her warranty, if I were to pop the serial code into the warranty registration online, would it still cover it?

Hope that makes sense.

you do not need a receipt. I sent mine in June 30th and it is already on it's way back and due to arrive July10th. Two weeks... not too bad. Shipping and repairs covered by Microsoft. I wish I would have put a mark on it to see if the send mine back or a replacement.

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
I've had a 360 since launch day. I already had one RROD Xbox repaired under the extended warranty.

Well guess what... my replacement has now also RROD'd. But since I'm out of the extended warranty they won't fix it for free again (I tried both the website and calling them and they made it absolutely clear that I'm out of warranty and that they won't fix it).

I don't understand how Microsoft can expect us to keep paying $99 every time their admittedly faulty units fail. Sure they extended the warranty, but it's not enough. Especially if they give you a replacement that's identical to the one that broke in the first place and has the same problems. If you have to keep paying $99, then the cost of ownership of the console over the lifetime of the unit becomes astronomical (and makes the original PS3 cost look like pocket change).

What gives, Microsoft?

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
Well i just got me E74 recently and i just left it like it is for awhile because i know ill be getting into a huge hassle getting it fixed, and i was right. So first i read there was an extended warranty and i was syked but it seemed that i was waaay over that one aswell so yea that was a shame, now i allready had my 360 go rrod on me twice(1st time 'normally' 2nd time when i got the 'repaired' one and put it on...)

So now all these years later i buy MP to get GTA: TLAD and the day after downloading and playing a bit it just dies with the E74 error. I dont wanna pay 100 bucks for repairs because i just bought something cheap because i dont wanna spend alot of money on a new game...

Im gonna try repair the 360 myself now and i must say i am not satisfied at all with this service, and that comment on the support page about that most people do fine and a little few experience crashes is just a lie and innapropriate.

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
On 2/14/09 my 360 elite experienced a E-74 error. I paid the $104 to have it fixed and the console was returned in what I would consider exceptional time. (4 days from when it left my hands it was returned) Then Microsoft decided to cover the error under their warranty and..... "Microsoft will refund to customers the amount paid for an Out of Warranty repair due to a general hardware failure associated with the E74 error message. Those customers should automatically receive the refund within 4-12 weeks, and no additional action by customers should be necessary. Customers can choose to receive either a refund to their credit card or a check refund. Checks should be received no later than the end of July. If you have any question regarding refund status, contact Xbox Customer Support" I contacted customer support after not receiving my refund. After 3 weeks of phone calls and customer service reps that know very VERY little, I was informed last week that my E-74 error does not qualify for a refund, with no additional information provided, namely what was fixed or how the error code could have changed between me sending the box and repairs receiving it. I was supposed to receive a call back about this 6 days ago, but have yet to hear anything else. And since calling them is futile I feel I am left with 1 choice of action. As a result I have canceled my gold membership and will no longer be purchasing new software for my xbox. I will be buying a PS3 at lunch and spend my roughly $60 a month on games there. This is a shameful excuse for customer service and an outright lie on the part of xbox. I hope others are not as cheated as I was.

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
Hi
I just received the three red lights on my xbox 360. So being all bummed out go online check it out and find out this problem is common and that microsoft offers a three year warranty on this problem.
So I go onto there website register the product and now it is saying my warranty has expired sticker on the back of the box says 2006 10 28 apparently it expired in 2008 says them. I'm not that great in math but that is not three years. Anybody else have this problem and how it can be resolved.

thanks Dave

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
Just got the E74 message. What a terrible helpless feeling............... At first when I was playing Gears 2 the screen would be glitchy , thought it was just the game. I bought the Arcade TMNT and saw the same glitch again. I turned off the system and turned it on then one red light started flashing and had the E74 message. My question is did I lose everything? My stuff should be on the hard drive right? To think I waited a long time to buy an Xbox 360 so that all the problems would weed out. I even bought the Elite version. It's sad that a great system can crash and from the stories I'm reading 2nd, 3rd, 4th times your xbox crashes it really feels horrible that you would even have to worry about your system crashing. This has never happen on my old Atari, Nintendo, Sega, and PS2 systems. Hopefully Xbox fixes the issues. I had a choice between the 360 and the PS3 I hope I made the right choice.

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
I have the same problem. And yes everything is on your HD but when you get the "new/fixed" Xbox back you have to reassociate (transfer) all downlaods from your old Xbox serial number to the new one if you are not returned yours. Last week I downloaded the Dark Corners for Gears and halfway thru the Stealth chapter my Xbox froze and wouldn't stop. Then it displayed the E71 and then E74 message and the next day, blam! 3 red lights. Damn bastards! not only that but it died 29% into my download of Marvel vs Capcom 2. I now have 4 games waiting for the new/fixed Xbox to arrive so that I can finish downloading em. To note, I have/had and Elite and put in for the repair last Friday and have yet to receive my shipping label. Sons o' bi**** don't seem to care too much for my entertainment let alone all of yours.

So let it be know, no you do not lose everything as it is on your HD but when you do get a diffetent Xbox you NEED to transfer the license of all downloads to the new/fixed console ONLY if different from the one you sent in so keep an eye on that serial number!
