Re: Gaming Communites for Parents
It's great to see so many communities for the older gamer out there. There seems to be something for everyones taste. I guess we can add yet another site for the older gamer to the list.

I just created Grave Dodgers for pretty much the same reasons as everyone else has created theirs. I just started up this site to focus on a few games such as OFP:DR, ARMA 2, Call of Juarez:BoB and Battlestations Pacific for starters and am still very active with Casual Adult Gamers as well.

Re: Gaming Communites for Parents
Hey all, nice to see people here with something similar in mind. I posted elasewhere about my club but will post here again, as our site has something similar:

Club name: TDC (The Drivers Club)
The TDC was originally started as an exclusively PS3 Home club, but have since decided to expand to include xbox users (as some members also own xbox's) Our aim is to find guys and ladies out there who are there to race for fun and fairly without cheating. We have had some success on ps3, our midnight club racenights were a particular highlight.

There is no discrimination over age as half of our members are over 30 (I'm only 25) and our resident queen of driving anto is a challenge for anyone (doubt her skills at your peril, she's good even though she's partly deaf)
Feel free to have a look and/or join in. We even thinking about a inter-forum tournament, but that'll have to wait for a few weeks ;)

Re: Gaming Communites for Parents
www.thelikemindedgamers.com

All adults and lots of dads and moms. Parenting is a regular discussion point with us.

What we are:

We are a close tight knit adults only community. We don't want to be the biggest or the baddest group out there, we only want to be a group where everybody knows everybody by name and personality. We regularly scrub non-active members because every space on your friends list should be someone you know an enjoy gaming with(is yours?). A closed community most of the time we open up registration every once in awhile (once a year usuallu) to keep things fresh and to replace scrubbed members.
What we offer:

- Established. We were formed at the xbox 360 launch making us the oldest 360 dedicated community. Not one of the hundreds of fly by night groups that pop up and disappear weekly. We are not going anywhere.

- Non competitive - Members will sometimes run their own in-house leagues and tournaments (Currently about 70% through an in-house FIFA season) but we don't join ladders or play any clan matches. That's not what we are about. Nobody cares about skill level. We have people of all different skill levels and we all just want to have fun. 99% of our membership only game with other LMG members.

-Relatively Small group by design. You will know everybody both by name and personality.

- Monthly Podcast and Newsletter (Warning: These are rated R for language and FILLED with inside jokes. You will need to be a member for awhile before you get some of these references). See here for most recent Newsletter: http://thelikemindedgamers.com/newsletters/04-2009.pdf

- Tons of group events. GOW2 Horde nights as well as COD Zombie nights are common. Lot's of sports action with regular FIFA and NHL tournaments as well as many others. Lot's of SP gaming as well so if you want to discuss FallOut or Fable feel free. We hold a yearly LMG Summer Olympiad where members were broken into teams (countries) and take part in a friendly competition over a series of games (XB live, SP and XBLA) for gold, silver, and bronze medals. We run a yearly fantasy football league, a monthly poker night (done through paypal) and friendly video game sports leagues as well. Our flagship gathering is our Friday night drunkfest where all the members vote on the game and get together to have a few drinks (not a requirement) and enjoy some gaming with friends. Events are well attended. We almost always have full rooms, and open up multiple rooms as needed.

- A VERY active shout box to help make work go by a little faster. We have our own review and preview writer, as well as a video game news guru who keep us all up to date on everything going on out there. Our shout box is very active and has cost lots of companies millions of dollars a year in lost man hours.

- Our own language. We have been in existence since the beginning if the Xbox 360, and our own slang terms have become commonplace. Check them out in our LMG vernacular thread on the forum to see what exactly being fargened into a game means. Also check out the "LMG for Noobs" thread to help get started.

- A diverse membership. We have men and women from all walks of life. Business men, a fireman, IT guys (and gals), a biologist, educators, military and many more. All active and all available for gaming. We even have a team Mom who takes care of sending out gift baskets and cards for births, birthdays and anything you can think of for members.

- We pride ourselves on our membership being an active one. Since we do not care about the total number of members we scrub our roster regularly. We have only two requirements for membership: Be an adult (we prefer over 25, but over 21 is usually OK) and be active. You are not a member in the group until you hit 50 posts on our message board. This is so we can quickly weed out the inactive people. Why? Because every space on your the F/L is precious. Don't waste a space on yomom420hydrotoker who you met once on GRAW and wouldn't stop singing long enough to shout out a coordinate anyway.

What to do:

Go to www.thelikemindedgamers.com, click over to our forum and introduce yourself in the New to LMG thread. Check out our board a little and come on up to the shout box. It is hard to say what makes us special but it will be apparent very quickly if you are a fit for us and vice versa. If so than pull up a chair and get ready for online gaming the way it was meant to be done. If not than that is fine too. These types of groups are all about good fits anyway. We can even help recommend a different group or two if you would like.
If however we are a fit than great come on in, sit down, and become part of what we think is a very special group.
