Re: Dragon Age: Origins Discussion

Knowing that the game has a slow start is fine with me, I prefer a slow start to a game since it allows for getting to grips with the game, character development and more.

It's a good thing I rein in my emotions or I would be as excited as a kid at Christmas.

I wouldn't say it has a slow start at all.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins Discussion
Anyone thinking this is easy. There has been a few tough deathspawn creatures that have packed a punch early on.
[I'm on normal].

And I lost my entire party in a certain building at a certain town to the far west. Two doors opened up on either side of my party and with both flanks getting hammered by evil mages and warriors they soon made mincemeat out of my party.Which gets me worried about tougher higher ranking beasties to come. Still watching that put a big smile on my face.

I usally take control of  Morrigan in battles.

Morrigan is one of my best characters, she rarely falls in a fight.

The only time I have to take an active hand with her it to use a Lyrium potion or to heal a character that has been frozen by a spell or trap.

I hate it when you get two Mages in a room, they'll just keep freezing the main character in place if you don't get to them and batter them to death straight away.

Yeah my Dwarf has the hots for Morrigan. With all the gifts I am sending her way. She is a great support mage, attacking large groups, or using healing when the party is fighting a tough beasty and one or two members are taking a beating.

I like the spider transformation better than the bear so far.

Morrigan is the only one who seems to talk when outside the camp. She's always initiating conversations with the other party members.

I still don't quite understand the combat. I just press A and use my special skills. I don't know how to get my party members to do specific moves. I just let them do their thing and it seems to be working, even if they die a bit.

Hold down LT and move between party members with LB or RB. You can set them thing to do just like the main character.

Ok thanks. Also, this game obviously hates light and medium armour users. I just finished Soldiers peak and the armour is Massive....Again! I want some good light or medium armour!!!!

No problem.

There are loads of good light armour. Don't think that because it has a higher armour rating that is is automatically the better suit for your character. Warriors should definitely be in heavy suits but put one of them on a rogue or mage and you can reduce their effectiveness.

What is going to come back and bite me I'm sure is that I am dumping the majority of my points into Strength, so I can wear my Blood Dragon Armour; it requires a 38 strength rating.

A pain that you have to be quite a high level before it becomes available to you but I guess they didn't want to make things too easy.

Yeah, I only have 23 strength I thin at Level 8. I would really like the blood dragon armour but I'm a Roge elf, so it probably won't be that effective on my character. Apart from Drake skin armour, what is a good set of light/medium armour?

Dalish armour is a good light suit.

Not sure of the name, I'd check but I'm watching NCIS: LA at the moment, but it is the type that Alistair starts the game in; you mind some really good variations of it during the game.

I find it to be very good for my Rogues. Gives reasonable protection without hitting them for movement penalties, which hurts them quite a bit in their effectiveness.

My human warrior is currently in a suit of Warden's Commander armour I got from the Warden's Keep DLC (which'll be going on Alistair once I get level 38 to wear my Blood Dragon suit; just one more point to go.)

Ok cool. I was hoping that there would be some sweet high leve light armour. I don't want to use the same armour through the whole game. Is the Drake skin armour light?

I find the coversations quite riveting. great voice acting and a lot of humour. I also find the conversations to me almost identical in both length and the way they work to Mass Effect, which is of course, quite understandable given the developer.

I know I keep saying this, but to me, DA is the best game I have played on the Xbox to date. Just stunning in just about every aspect.

I morph her into a spider then let her follow me aboot. The graphics and model for that looks awesome. Gives me the eeby geebies, that ticker ticker ticker scuttling sound it makes. *SHUDDER*

My party is now me, Morrigan, the rogue and Shale. All leveled and armed up to their max. I love Shales dry sense of humor. Wink [;)]

I think so.

Make sure to check the stats screen to see how the armour is affecting you.

Same as I have done, full Blood Dragon suit from head to toe, looks cool. Although I have just dropped Alistair for Shale. Alistair just dies far too easy, even with the Wardens C Armour, although it does help a bit.

Why? As a warrior, strength and consitution are the two you should be dumping your points into.

Alistair just drains all the potions away. He can't stay alive for more than a minute without guzzling them down like Tizer.

He's just got the Templar ability to disspell magical effects, so I'm hoping he is going to be more effective now.

I like having Shale in my squad though just for the noise he makes while he walks, plus I'm heading down into the Deep Roads now, so it should be like going home for him.

I don't know. I just worry that I'm going to encounter something that is going to require me to be a little more dexterous.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins Discussion
Strength
Strength measures a characters physical prowess, and directly affects the amount of damage a character deals in physical combat. It also contributes to the accuracy of melee attacks. High strength is essential for warriors, in particular if they wish to wield two-handed weapons, and is nearly as critical for rogues

Dexterity
Dexterity is the measure of agility, reflexes, and balance. Higher dexterity improves a character’s chances to hit, makes the character more likely to dodge incoming blows, and contributes to the damage dealt by piercing weapons like daggers or arrows. Archery and dual-weapon fighting styles demand high dexterity to master, making this attribute a favourite for rogues.

Willpower
Willpower represents a character’s determination and mental fortitude. With high willpower, mages can cast more spells thanks to a deeper mana pool. For warriors and rogues, willpower grants more stamina for combat techniques and special attacks.

Magic
Magic is the measure of a characters natural affinity for the arcane. This attribute is crucial for mages, since it directly increases a character’s spellpower score, which determines the potency of all spells. The magic attribute also determines how effective potions, poultices, and salves are for all classes.

Cunning
Cunning determines how well a character learns and reasons. Most skills, such as Herbalism or Combat Tactics, require a quick mind to master—and an observant eye can more easily find weaknesses in enemy armour. Rogues benefit most from this statistic, as many of their class abilities and special attacks rely on subtlety or reading the target, not raw strength.

Constitution
Constitution represents health and resilience. Higher constitution directly increases the amount of damage a character can take before falling on the battlefield.

The drake skin armour is light armour yeh. Tier 7 and a lot of fire resistance, the second drake armour increases dexterity as well. Both are armour, gloves and boots as well so you get the bonus for having a set if you wear them all.

Hi. I have entered the code from my box to unlock the - correct me if i'm wrong- Blood Dragon Armour and the Quest for Shale. How do I actually get the armour as it is not in my inventory, and how do you play the Shale quest? I've spoken to the man that starts the quest but it says I need to download the mission which involves leaving the game? Any help would be appreciated. BEST GAME EVER.

It's the same number as the first time, the better set is just the smiths second attempt and the practice means he does a better job (I think paying him and telling him not to rush it helps as well) I'm fairly certain it's three that you need, I think I had six when I went to the smith the second time and I have three now (which would make six) and I thought it was three I had the first time.
