This issue happened to me 2 times this weekend. I just purchased NCAA 07 on Saturday. I have not experienced this with BattleField II: Modern Combat or GRAW, only NCAA 07.

Three things:

I tried the volume adjustment (announcers down to zero) - didn't stop the error.

I tried changing horizontal to vertical - same error.

I was just at Target and going to play a demo of Madden 06 on the 360 while I waited for a prescription and guess what I saw?  That's right, when I selected the Play Demo option everything started up then...disc unreadable.  SWWWEEEETTTT!

I no longer get the error guys, the only thing I have changed is I bought a fan that hooks on to the back. It could be worth a shot!

Question, how many of you that are having this problem have an Xbox 360 with a Toshiba-Samsung drive?? This may help MS and EA better understand the issue. I have a Toshiba-Samsung drive and i have also had this problem. All my other games work fine, all of a sudden NCAA is the only game acting up. Here is a way to tell what drive your console has:

On this link, if you scroll down a bit, there are pictures of both drives with the disk tray open. This will tell you if you have the Toshiba-Samsung drive, or the Hitachi Drive. So for those of you having this problem with NCAA only, and can confirm you own a 360 with a Toshiba-Samsung drive, this may be the problem!!

I had the same problem for the past month. I bought the 360 just to play NCAA 07 had it less than a month. I returned the game to Game Stop 3 times and got the same results. I finally returned and exchange the my 360 to best buy and got another. No problem since. I believe I figured out he problem. My original 360 had a samsung/toshiba DVD drive. My new 360 has the original Hitichi Drive. By random chance I got a 360 w/ the older Hitichi Drive from BestBuy.

If you look a the difference on this website. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_Technical_Problems   it is noted that the "newer model samsung/toshbia drives have a harder time reading burnt DVD+R DL.

"With the third production run of the Xbox 360, the original Hitachi-LG DVD drive (model GDR-3120L) was replaced with a slightly quieter Toshiba/Samsung DVD drive (model TS-H943). The Hitachi-LG DVD drive model has been known to read burnt DVD+R DL discs better than the newer Toshiba/Samsung drives, and is much less picky about DVD Burner/Media compatibility. Phillips drives were only used in pre-release development Xbox 360s.^[4"

^{I believe it is note a coding problem but rather a disk "quaility" manufacturing problem by EA. The Toshiba/Samsung are having a harder time trying to read the disks. I noticed w/ the Samsung that my 360 would be spinning faster (noise) before I got the DDE. W/ the Hitichi the spinning noise is even throught out the game.The Samsung is treating the game like a DVD+R DL disc and is having a hard time reading it and freezing.}

Odd, but I wonder why I get it since I have hitachi.

Wow, there area a lot of people with this problem.  I'm not sure if I should feel better or worse about that.  I bought a used copy from GameStop and noticed a few problems.  I got the unreadable disc error as well as random freezes.  The bottom of the screen also seems to be missing some pixels along the lines at contain the score and team name info.  Not sure if that's a look EA is going for or if it's a glitch in my system. 

For the record, my drive is a Toshiba/Samsung

This has happened to me with both Madden 06 and FIFA World Cup.  I've returned my Madden game but still had a few problems.  I gave up on playing Madden when Oblivion came out and have had no problems with that game at all.  When FIFA came out, I started getting the message again.  I decided to try swapping out my system (twice).  Had no luck until I deleted all of my old save games from the original system and turned off the autosave feature.  Haven't had a problem since.  I may try it with Madden 06, although it seems pointless since 07 is just around the corner.

hopefully madden 07 doesn't have same problem then there will be tons of pissed people.

I got the game around 3 weeks ago.  I played through the first 4 games in dynasty mode.  Then it started freezing when I got to the later quarters of a game.  After about 2 days of freezing in the middle of games...it got to the point where I can't even begin a game.

When starting the game everything is fine.  I can load my profile and even my dynasty.  But when I try to play a game within my dynasty, or even use the "play now" on the main menu, it begins to load the game and gives the "This Disc is Unreadable" message.  So basically I just spent $60 on a game that I can't even play.

I couldn't wait for Madden 07....but theres NO CHANCE i'll buy it now.  And if this issue isnt resolved soon, either through a patch or refund, i'll never buy another EA game again.

My disk has scratches now and I didn't do anything. It must of been my console.

ok... a few things i have done here and have had no freezes in the last week...

1.  Start the xbox 360 up by ejecting the NCAA disc (basically, don't let the game load to start)

2.  Load the game after being signed in

3.  Turn the commentary down to 0

4. Don't play more than 2 games in a row

I haven't had any problems since i started doing this... let me know if this is working for anyone else...

Ive only had it happen once, yes it was dynasty mode and it was against  #5 ranked team who I was beating at the time. Needless to say when I rebooted and played the same team again I got destroyed. Anyhow after this one freeze up I went out and bought the intercooler device and ever since that point I havent had any problems. I firmly believe that most of these system crashes are due to heat problems. Let's face it the 360 could clear 100 miles of highway buried in 3 feet of snow within minutes.

None here. But then again, Madden came out and NCAA hasn't been back in. It's going to get traded soon for a credit towards Tiger Woods.  I'm a Pro guy myself over College, so NCAA was just a placeholder until Madden came out.

Yes this is not a vertical/horizontal problem. I have tried it both ways and have had the game lock up on me both ways. I found a scratch on my game disc and thought that was the reason for the issue. I took it back and had the store exchange it for me. I got home and after about 2 games (I dont ever play more than 1 game at a time without turning the console off) it did it to me again. Its either a defect in the game disc or a problem with the console. I am keeping an eye on my new disc (currently no scratches) to see if the console scratches it. Also, if you do what it says (wipe it off with a soft cloth) it will work for that next game. If you wipe the game each time before you play a game, it should make it through each game without freezing (at least every time I have cleaned the game first, it worked for that game, and every time I tried to play without it, it always froze).

I wonder if the console isnt "smudging" the game as it reads it?

I just had another thought. I also have MLB 2K6 and this never happened with it. I had the MLB issue where the game froze between innings, but that is definitely a game problem. I never got the disc unreadable error with it. Only once I started playing NCAA did it begin. And it never does it when it is first on. I had it happen to me at halftime once, but most of the time it happens once you "exit" a game and are waiting for the system to reload the dynasty screen.

Anyone else notice that the game tends to jump when loading video sequences (i.e. when you call a play and it shows the defense waiting (and lifelessly tilting from side to side I might add) it tends to freeze for like 2 seconds while it loads some graphic (i.e. LB #3 has 3 sacks and 2 int's today ) to display on the screen. Anyone else notice this?

This isn't the case with me, because it is the only EA game I have and it happens. I think the game has multiple issues, and we are slowly finding ways to eliminate each one. I will try turning the commentary down to 0 to see if that helps. Also, as I mentioned before, wiping the CD down with a cloth before each time you play it seems to help it as well.

I have same problem.  Just bought a 360 with ncaa 07 and it crashed about 2 out of 3 games.  Took game back and same thing.  Took 360 back to get a new one and same thing.  I have samsung drive.  Is there going to be a solution to this?

Hey its me again with a new tip for everyone to try. So far I have done this twice and it has worked perfect both games.

Before I did this, I would start a game, it would freeze, and finally by the time I got to the third attempt, it would allow the entire game to finish.

Here is what I did (I just thought to try this and it seems to work). Since the issue may be related to both the disc itself and/or the type of drive you have, i decided to do the following:

(1) Turn on the Xbox
(2) Open the disc drive and remove the game
(3) Turn the Xbox off
(4) Turn it back on
(5) wait for the main screen to load
(6) once you are at the main screen (it should be asking you to open tray and insert a disc by now), open the tray and insert the game
(7) the game should load on its on.

Now if this works for you like it did for me, you should be able to get through an entire game with no hitches.

Like I said, it has worked for me twice so far. I will try again soon. Please let me know if this seems to work for anyone else...

Hey, i just had this start happening the other day and i took it out and looked at the disk and saw on smal single scratch on it, so i got a Game Dr and repaired it and it hasn't done that since, so i dunno if it's a problem with the xbox, i think the game must be extremely sensitive to even the slightest scratch

Hey I wanted to update everyone on the situation. Now it seems the XBox is having issues with the drive. It is at the point that the drive doesnt even spin the disc every time, and then when it does, it has a hard time reading it. I will try the Game Dr as suggested above. I do also notice that the system has put multiple scratches on both of my games, so I think I am going to return/exchange the system for a new one. I am going to request one with the Hitachi drive, since the one I have is Toshiba.

This is kind of ridiculous, you’d think that after paying $400 for a new game system you’d be able to play your favorite games with out your system freezing and then having to replay your mission/ football game….etc.   I have had my 360 for about 6 months and have experienced freezing problems on 3 of my games about 50% of the time.   The first time I noticed this problem was playing Burnout Revenge ... exchanged the game at EB games and haven’t seen a problem since.   I next noticed it playing Madden 07…. exchanged the game at best buy and the problem still exists.  I am currently playing Dead Rising and have started to notice the problem near the end of the game…..this is really starting to **** me off…..I don’t want to have to worry about returning my game or trouble-shooting on the phone with some Microsoft tech…..I just want to kill some f*ing zombies…..AAAAHHHHH.   One thing I have noticed is that the games freeze during loading (makes sense….that’s when info is being read off the disk).  Well I’m at least glad to see this is happening to a lot of people…..maybe it will cause Microsoft to do something.   I do hope Microsoft figures out some fix or I will be trading in my Microsoft Freeze Machine for a shiny new PS3……………
