Re: Jasper Discussion
It's sad that people have to actually look for a certain xbox to enjoy the system. Why don't people just buy it, play it, and if it breaks exchange it with a new one within the return/exchange policy

Because people would rather not deal with the repair process.  The 360 has a great warranty in my opinion but you will still be without a system while its getting fixed.

They don't actually repair yours and send it back - you get a refurb replacement.  I dont' know what the chances are of you getting a Jasper on a refurb.

What's the return rate on the Jasper Chipset? I only read one person on this forums had a Jasper and it failed.  Anybody else have a Jasper console that failed?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I mean I know its not a jasper they sent back. But when you get a refurbished unit back from Microsoft, is it any better? Or do they still use the same cheap x clamps and will break in a year again?

I'm going to have to guess that it does have those clamps if its going to be a re-furb system. Man that stinks if they are going to give a junk system back to you tho.

Re: Jasper Discussion
It seems to depend on what needs replacement. I sent in a unit last year with a E74 error and got the same console back with a new delta fan but not sure what else they replaced. I'm assuming if your console is too far gone you'll get a refurbished unit, hopefully of the same version.

Hmmmm.... Yeah I guess that could be a factor. Its just weird because I listened closely to it start and I heard this sound like something was not firing up. But my fan was working just fine and everything. So i was what it could be.

Yes, the colour is the main thing for me. And I have considered the Arcade + 120 GB route, but in the UK that would cost me £149 for the Arcade and then a further £89 for the 120GB. I don't need the HDMI yet, but when I do, I don't really want to have to shell out for that + the dongle (you get free with the Elite) that allows me to get sound too (£15). Then I would have to buy the headset too (£15). This takes the cost to £278, and it is still not the colour I want. The Elites are going for £229 for the same amount of stuff in the box. The £50 difference would be better spent on a couple of games. In the US the accessories are cheaper and also, many of the people that have gone this route already have the headset which makes it a more appealing option.....

Thanks Peachy!   I am in a similar boat as you (wanting a Jasper elite) and found all your posts in the this thread helpful.       I was hoping for maybe another announcement today at E3 but no dice on the hardware front!    I am sitting here with a broken launch console..  so that may force my hand sooner that trying to patiently wait! I think it could take another year or so for them to clear out all these previously made machines.     Good Luck to ya!

Well I hope it doesn't take a year! I expect we are close, but then I have been thinking that for 6 months now and my hope is a little lower than I want it to be. At least they didn't announce the end of the Elite, so that tells me that they WILL actually get around to making a black Jasper, just gotta sit and wait for the inventories to clear some more. Funnily enough, a few UK based companies are doing some pretty good deals on the Pros and Elites. The Aracde obviously needs very little to make it sell due to it's low price. At this rate I may have to grab a Modern Warfare 2 special edition Elite, or perhaps the Final Fantasy special edition Elite. They are guaranteed to be Jasper.

Glad you like the posts, and if you get any decent LOT umbers please post them here (especially UK Elite ones).

Why not just buy an Arcade Jasper and slap a 120 GB hard drive on there.  Just do the DRM transfer process for content.

No one knows as MS does not release this data. No matter what there is always going to be a return rate for any CE device. There will always be failures.

A good way to tell if the consoles are failing a lot is to look at this forum. Jasper are definitely lasting longer and working better for people, so I'd say MS is definitely moving in the right direction.

Jasper helps with the failure rate, but as we all know, the actual design is flawed so every 360 will fail, jaspers will just last longer than others.

Well the best answer anyone can give you is that they have been greatly improved by the introduction of the Jasper. I have seen very few cases of Jasper failures, but that does not mean all of them are fine. the truth is that a Jasper represents your best chance of a long and fruitfull gaming life. But is it 100% safe? well nothing that plugs in is, but there has never been a better motherboard inside a 360 than the Jasper.

Thing is you cant see the 150W PSU or the manf. date unless you open the box. The lot # is easy to identify. So is the Amperage through the window on the box itself.

I got my Arcade yesterday with a lot # of 909, Team-CSON. It also have a 150W PSU, 12.1 and a manf. date of 02-29-2009.
