Just got my first 360 from Best Buy, Lot 0736, 9-4-07, BenQ, Sunon, Falcon. Runs a bit louder (though ice cold thank g-d) than I was hoping for, but using the patch trick from one of the threads that was on the front hardware page makes it run whisper quiet (I can't even hear it, even at night, playing with the sound low, and the console isn't in any sort of entertainment center). Patch trick is highly, highly recommended for those who could use a quieter box.

How hot do these new Falcons get? I mean, my 8/7/07 Elite gets warm on the top of the console at the back, where the heat is being taken out of the system. And also warm above the CPU heatsink...this is normal I assume. But, how much cooler are these new systems? Are they *that* much cooler? I.e. does it even feel warm after 4-5 hours of gameplay?

Re: How to see if you have a 65nm (Falcon) console...

I could find now an elite that is lot #731, team FDOU, manufactured 08/01/2007. In some posts buyers of
such an elite reported that it is quiet and quite cool as well. It's just not sure if it has a benq or a hitachi drive built in. has somebody any experience with an elite made in that time? are these quiet as well? could it be a falcon already? is the benq anyway the better drive than the latest hitachis?

i'm just not sure what to do as there are reports that the dvds in a falcon are getting quite warm, it doesn't seem to be perfect as well. so the most important point for me is that my new box is quieter than my '06 premium. i never had a problem so far with my premium (no rod or stuff like that) please advice.....thanks guys.

well i guess it will never be ice cold after 5 hours gameplay. from which team and lot  is your box? which dvd drive have you got? is it quiet? please see above, i'm just thinking about buying one made in august.

My falcon console, info about 4 posts up, runs extremely cool. Even after 3-4 hours last night, barely could feel any heat, except obviously in the back where the hot air gets pumped out. And no, it's not very quiet, even with the benq drive. However, apply the patch trick and it becomes near silent!

Sorry, should have done that first. See here:

http://forums.xbox.com/1/12946080/ShowPost.aspx#12946080

For the lazy here's a copy/paste:

First all patches on the console must be deleted with a maintenance of the data storage units. To do this, go to the the System blade, go on memory and press Y (if you have a memory card inserted you first have to select the HDD to get the Y-option.) Enter X, X, LB, RB, X, X to call the hidden maintenance option and confirm the question with Y. No other downloads than the patches will be affected. Start the patchable game or insert it into the DVD-drive and close the tray and wait to the message that an update is available. At this point, do not confirm the message! Open the tray and close it again (You may insert a game-disc of a game where no patch exists for) and now confirm the message and download the patch. The game will then start with reduced drive speed! This procedure must be repeated each time starting the game again to reduce the speed.

Mine has a benq drive. It runs quieter than my old premium and refurbed premium for sure. However, since the new Elites are coming out soon. I'd wait to see if you can get one with a new chipset just for the *** of it. No one has any idea if they are better or not, but it's worth a shot if you've waiited this long already.

Re: How to see if you have a 65nm (Falcon) console...

I just used my PRP at Best Buy to replace my 11 month old Premium with massive DRE problems. I got one of the first Holiday Bundles they received. It came with Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance with foil stickers on the box indicating the pack-in.

It appears that I have the Falcon. There is no pipe visible from the bottom grate and it appears that I have 2 inductor rings laying flat. The only difference I can see from the pictures is that my rings are wrapped in red wire rather than the copper the pictures show.

The other difference I noticed was that the HDD is now missing the brushed metal strip around the outside edge. It's now all gray with the brushed metal insert like the older styles.

Manufacturing Info:

Team: FDOU

Lot: 0735

Date: 2007-09-01

I'm going to go set it up now and see how it runs.

I kinda liked the old chrome strip around the drive.  Seems kinda cheap now.

Only advantage is that fingerprints aren't a problem now.

So, I guess the BenQ drives are not much quieter than the Tohiba's.

I have a Toshiba and this trick made mine so quite that all I hear now is the fans and the odd chatter of the DVD head moving.

Basically, playing a game on disc is now as quiet as playing a demo off the HDD. Big Smile [:D]

Lot #0734

Team FDOU

8/25/07

I went to the store and specifically looked for the specs that was given in this write up and ended up with a Zephyr set up anyhow, even with the criteria.  I am still contemplating taking my system back again and trying once more.

Im a little disappointed, but not all that much becuase I have nothing but good luck with these systems so far, this is my 2nd system, one of which is a launch console and have not had any problems with it so far.  I am quite content with my system, it would be really cool if I had the Falcon chip set in my Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox 360, but oh well.  My system seems to be quiet as it is and doesnt seem to be over heating, no RROD yet.

FYI, this  post on the falcon set was very informative ty for all of the hard work, it was fun reading.

Not to come off as an *** here but why worry about another system right now then?

If your current one works just fine why not hold off on trying to score a Falcon until later when you're almost guaranteed to get one?  Seriously that's what I'd do. But maybe you have a different reason for getting another one right now.

Re: How to see if you have a 65nm (Falcon) console...

I lol at the quality of xbox 360.  my first one kep on getting R68 error after 2 days, which is hard drive error.  i followed the steps that MS had on their site, but i exhcanged it for a new one, didnt want to use xbox service when its only a few days old.

my second xbox is a premum holiday bundle, same specs as before and i believe that it has no copper pipe, 2 inductors with red copper.  And the benQ drive.

Lot 0737, 9-13-07, fdou.

i dont know how loud the xbox is suppose to be, but its def louder then my Ps3, but the heat coming out is warm and not hot.  and after an half an hour of playing, the game disc is not hot, mildly warm.

Just got back from Wal Mart with a

Lot 737

Team FDOU

Mfg 2007 09 13

Round "Free Inside...."  sticker

3 inductors

copper heat pipe

I'm heading off to Best Buy, if they have a Lot 736 or 738 I think I'll get it and return the 737 to WM, otherwise I'll just play the 737 for a while and then consider my options.

Re: How to see if you have a 65nm (Falcon) console...

After playing my holiday bundle box for a couple hours I've found that:

The fans are MUCH quieter. Rather than a constant "whoosh" sound it's a mild whirring.

The DVD drive seems a little quieter but not as much as I'd hoped. The unit overall is quieter than the 8-2006 I just took back.

The heat from the back is much less and there are no hot spots on the exterior case that I could find.

It seems like an improvement but only time will tell.

Actually, the gray on the side of the HD is somewhat shiny, so it looks almost like chrome when you look at it quickly. I for one like the all gray HD better than the gray and chrome HD.

really??? they look 'cheap' to me. i like the chrome on the old hard drive mainly cuz the disc tray front is chrome and the hard drive doesnt make it seem like an 'outcast' cuz there isnt chrome anywhere on the console. lol

Alright I've got questions.

Any Canadians out there finding team FDOU 360s?

I went to 2 Walmarts, FutureShop, and Toys R Us today and all anyone had was team CSON.

Do they not send FDOU 360s to Canada?

Also is anyone seeing GO PRO 360s in Canada? I haven't seen any anywhere.

Thanks.

Nah, your not coming off as an ***, I am a super Haloed out kinda guy and I will prob keep this console for some time to come, might as well get the best set up for a system that I am planning on keeping for a while.  There wont be any other mobo or chipset newer than the Falcon that will go in the H3 systems, so Im just trying to get the best system at its time.
