Re: Jasper Discussion
I'm looking to buy an Arcade Jasper sometime soon, and hook it up with a 60gb hdd. I hope this model runs better than my first 360 Pro I bought back in 2007. The fan was pretty loud and it got super hot really fast. I ended up selling it because it would disc read error quite a bit. I found out it died about three months after I sold it.  Surprise [:O]

How does the intercooler work for those heat issues?  I'm thinking of investing in one for my next xbox.  I hear that a laptop cooling fan would be a good investment.

Intercooler TS at the Best Buy or GameStop store, it's automatically when the heat goes up, it's turn fan speed up.. it's own power supply. Nothing modded anything.

Re: SV: Re: Jasper Discussion
I picked one up at BB a half hour ago, they didn't have any stock newer than March production, but saw the 12.1A  notation through the hole in the box, so it's definitely a Jasper. The added memory isn't an issue as i'm using my 120g hard drive with it. So far, it's much quieter than my first two Zephyr's were, but I'm going through the liscense transfer process on all my DLC first before i pop a disc in.

Re: SV: Re: SV: Re: Jasper Discussion
Hi all,

I had an Elite (Falcon I think) from December 2007.  It just RROD on me.  I have the Best Buy Replacement Plan, and I think I will be able to go in and exchange it for another unit, or get a store credit to buy a new one.

1.  I think my local Best Buy has the Elite Bundle with the Indiana Jones and Kug Fu Panda game, does this automatically mean that it is a Jasper.  Or, should I look at the voltage on the back (I'm assuming I can look at it without opening the box??) and if it says 12.1, it is a Jasper?

2.  Assuming I can't find a Jasper Elite, and Best Buy gives a store credit, should I instead get a Pro or Arcade Jasper, would that be better than the Falcon Elite?  I assume it is the same drill for the Pro and Arcade, look at the voltage?

3.  Is there any other way to tell whether it is a Jasper besides the voltage, Manufactured Date, Sku??

Thanks very much!!!

Re: SV: Re: SV: Re: Jasper Discussion

1: Nope, no bundle means it is automatically a Jasper, unless you picked up the red RE5 special edition. It is a little tougher to see the rating on Pros and Elites than the Arcades, but worth a try.

2: If you are able to keep your hard drive then I would get the Arcade, there are tons of Arcade Jaspers out there. If you don't have the hard drive you could always buy it separately and add it to an Arcade. As long as you check the Amp rating then you should be fine.

3: The Amp rating is the best way, but if you manage to get the system and start it running (assuming it is an Arcade) then look in the system settings section, the moemory and see if you have the onboard memory (either 256MB or 512MB).

Good luck

I know what you meant, but this sentence can be interpreted two ways. To to clarify for others: "A console is not automatically a Jasper just because it is in a specific bundle."

molyoky, it is highly unlikely you'll find a black Jasper Elite. Not a single one has been documented in the United States. We have seen pictures of one in Australia, and another in Europe, but that's it.

I just bought my Arcade on Monday. I wasn't expecting it to be the jasper one. The box says 256mb and so does the manuel. There were no games bundled with it at all. So I got home and fired it up and surprise, it has the 512mb. I checked the back and it gives my manufacturing date as 04-15-2009. Now I just need to get a wireless adapter and a used hard drive and I'll be all set.

Buy.com tells you right on the xbox 360 arcade console page that it is the newest 512mb console that you will get if you buy it from them.

I saw a pretty good bundle deal at walmart.com called the Live Bundle. You pick the console, 1 game out of 49, a second controller and one xbox live card. Starts at $289.00 (depending on your choices, that price goes up).

Anyway, point is that if one were to purchase the Arcade version of the system in hopes of getting a Jasper, is there any way to request the latest mfg. date on the website upon ordering to up the chances?

Just curious if anyone would know this or would be able to give any tips.

Ha, absolutely not. I think people need to realize that the whole concept of purchasing specific consoles with specific manf. dates is something only found with the 360. Consumers asking for specific consoles is something completely new and not something most retails care to tailor to, especially one like Wal-Mart.

If you want guaranteed new stock, order from someplace like Buy.com or Newegg where they specifically list the 512MB memory.

Random Fact: A lot of cell phone stores train employees to sell the oldest phones first, so I wouldn't be surprised if retailers try to dump oldest stock first for most CE items.

I think that is common across the board. All retailers operate strict rotation of items usually. If you go to the supermarket the food stacked at the front of the shelf is always the old stock, I like to pick from the back as that is the produce that has longest left (lifetime). Sometimes you get helpful staff in game stores and they may help you find the one you want. Most people that go to purchase a 360 will not hav a clue that the build dates could be so important. On a side note, I went into a store looking for Jaspers and asked the store if I would be able to get them to look for the highest LOT number. The girl in the store said "yeah, I can't see a problem. We did it for a guy before because he wanted an older one so that he could mod it". Now that is some serious customer service.

It also seems that the new 512mb jaspers don't come with the arcade game anymore. Is this always the case so it would make it easy to know if your getting the newest jasper?

nope, no seperate memory cards included anymore, it's built in. And so far, my Jasper has been extremely quiet, so much so that the only to know it's on most of the time is to see the green lights on.

My Elite died today-it Red Ringed on me this evening after playing FEAR2 MP.  I got it from Best Buy on 10/7/2007 and got the 2 year replacement plan.  I hope I can just exchange it like the told me- I'm not sending it in. The problem is I really don't want a new Elite since they are not Jaspers yet.  I am hoping they will let me get a new Arcade and a 120g hard drive.  That way I know I'll get a Jasper plus I paid 449 for my Elite and can save $100.00 now that prices are cheaper.  Anyone know if any Jasper Elite's have shown up yet in the USA? Also, do you know if BB will transfer data to your new drive?

Thanks,

Scott

I am not sure about that USA store, but I know a couple of stores in the UK allow you to keep the harddrive from your old one.
