Re: Halo 3 Render Window Size

Roman, no offense, but I don't think it's oversensitivity.  From following this thread from the beginning (and I mean including the origional locked thread), this has been a long time in coming.  When MRCUR was incorrect (beyond his control) regarding the origional Falcon release, individuals decended on him like vultures.  By this, I mean they attacked him relentlessly, and usually with personal attacks and name calling.  He was a good sport about it, but it was definitely uncalled for.  This continued through the rest of the thread (even after he graciously apologized for Microsoft changing the Falcon's release date) until it was locked by Boid.

While they haven't been beaten up nearly as bad in this thread, some of the comments made by individuals started to sound eerily familar to the previous thread.  I'm sure that alot of the "sensitivity" you refer to still lingers from the previous unjustified beatings they endured.  Either way, and for whatever reason, we lost two excellent contributors to this forum thread meant for the sole purpose of killing time with endless speculation regarding the next hardware revision of the 360.  After all, who wants to toss out an opinion or something they heard if they'll need to reattach their head after each post?

On a side note, Fusker/MRCUR can't reveal their source of information.  Everyone, please quit asking!  After all, individuals working for major corporations doing engineering/design work usually must sign an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) prior to employment.  This NDA is a legally binding document that if violated can have extreme consequences.  Best case scenario you're just fired.  Worst case scenario, you face imprisionment and/or lost revenue reimbursement to the organization, in addition to being unemployed for (potentially) the rest of your life.  If information is being leaked, its best for everyone that the source remains anonymous.

You can believe the information, or don't.  No one is saying to treat everything you hear as gospel.  By all means, research and validate everything.  Just don't expect everyone/anyone else to do everything for you just because you demand it.  (Note:  this is not directed at anyone in particular, nor meant as a personal attack)

I don't mean to start a flame war on this, nor am I trolling.  Sorry for taking us so far off topic (again) in this monstrously worded post, but this is something that needed said for quite some time now.

Also, why is everyone making such a big deal over MRCUR and Fusker anyway?!? If they want to post great, if not, who cares!! PM them if you want something from them! Its getting annoying everyone taking sides for them or against them!

Re: 65nm (Falcon), BenQ, Heatsink Discussion

Hey Guys,

I just bought a new Elite yesterday. It is lot # 0729, team FDOU, and was manufactured on 7-20-2007. I spent several days shopping around trying to find a recent build like the ones recommended in this thread. I was hoping for a BenQ drive, but instead got a Hitachi-LG. The systems seems to be a little loud, but I'm not really sure because this is my first 360. Should I return it and hope for a BenQ (the best buy i got it at had plenty of lot 0729s in stock) or should I just be glad I was able to get something higher than 0723 in city that seems to be full of 0720s?

Well everyone seems to have a different opinion on what is "loud". To be honest, you might return it and get the BenQ drive only to realize its not much different. Supposedly these new Hitachi drives are pretty quiet as well.

I have an Elite with Brushless fans and a Hitachi driver and it is very quiet in my opinion (coming from a launch day premium)

I've heard the Ben Q is no quieter and some have said it is loud.

Just my 2 cents.

I have an elite, lot 0728 team FDOU with BENQ drive and although its not as noisy as my launch premium it is not as quiet as most people say.I think it comes down to the fact that most peoples perception of noisy is different to everyone else.

No offense taken.  You make excellent points.  I was not a part of the forum for the prior two incidents you mentioned and I clearly didn't understand the history.

My apoligies.

I'll bet yours is 65nm

WOAH! Those are significantly different from these:

You can't even see the x-clamp in yours & it looks like they removed a heatpipe.  This certainly implies that the one of the chips in there no longer needs the cooling it used to have.   Now the x-clamp may or may not still be under that heatsink, hard to say really.  However that heatsink looks beafy enough to be the clamp all by itself.

Re: 65nm (Falcon), BenQ, Heatsink Discussion

I sent in my Xbox for repair today and was wondering if they will send me a new model Xbox with the quieter drive and fans, also with the heatsink? Or did my previous model have it manufacture date: 8/17/06. Also I heard that the new models have the HDMI, do you think there is a possibility I will get a model with that in it?

Thanks TH3 RUPD0G

@ JWSpeed

Can you remove the thermal grease and get another pic please? Also, when was your console made? Also, can you post a few more pics of the new CPU heatsink please?

Thanks.

Edit: Oh, and my comment on this is simply: 65nm is here, but only for some consoles. I will be writing up a guide on how to see if you have a 65nm console soon (just as I did for the GPU heatsink).

If you compare the boards to the elite over on llama they are very similar...looks like 2 capacitors are missing on the right of the CPU....also CPU info has a  A01 on it...hmmm...

The console you sent in for repairs did NOT have the additional heatsink. As for which drive/fans you'll get on your refurb./replacement, I don't know. Sorry.

Re: 65nm (Falcon), BenQ, Heatsink Discussion
Seems to me that M$ is doing with the 65nm what it did with the heatsinks: slowly integrating them into their machines. At least, that's what I began thinking as soon as the power consumotion differences became apparent.
That said, somebody quoted Fusker earlier as saying the new 65nm 360's will NOT solve the 3 RoD's. I hope that isn't the case, and only time will tell whether it is or not, but I hope JW will keep us up to date on the functioning of his 360 (if he can put it back together :-)
