I bought my elite 360 about a year and a month ago to this date.  I don't know what kind of chip it had in it, possibly the falcon.  I used it a lot for streaming movies, music and playing games.  I never left it on more than 5 hours at a time.  It was never left on overnight.  It was laid down flat on top of my entertainment center away from all sources of heat.  Earlier this month it started freezing constantly.  Then I got the three red rings.  Then it worked for a little while again.  Then it started freezing again.  Then it showed one flashing red light and said e74 error.  Despit several attempts to get it to work for even just a few mintues I could not pass this e74 error.  It hit me, my beloved xbox 360 was dead.  Althouth this came as no shock to me and I was actually waiting for this dreaded day, it was hard to believe that it actually happened.  As I type, this my baby is enroute to Mesquite Texas in a UPS certafied coffin.  I am located in PA so I am sure this will probably take a good while till I get it back.  My question is, has anyone ever gotten a Jasper back from Mesquite, Texas as a replacement system?  I have heard rumors that they are fixing more systems instead of sending you a new one but I don't know if that it true.  Has anyone gotten a Jasper back as a replacement?  I just want whatever one I receive back to provide me with a long fun filled experience that lives well past it's warranty like my original xbox system that is still going strong.  Lastley, any ideas on what to do to pass the time waiting for my system to come back.  I feel like I lost a good friend and mainly I just work everyday and come home and watch tv all day staring at my collection of games that I wished I was playing.  I think my router committed suicide because of the loss of the 360.  Yesterday it kept resetting itself and then just shut off for good.  Oh well, since I currently have no 360 I have no need for it anyway.  To top things off even worse, last weekend I just got a 52" sony bravia s series lcd flat screen tv that I just can't wait to play games on.  Maybe I will now be able to read Niko's cell phone without planting my face 1" from the tv.

cliff notes

Anyone that recently sent their xbox in to be repaired or replaced, did you receive a Jasper consol as a replacement?  Would they do that?  Anyone that recently sent in their system since 2009 is yours still working trouble free or did it break again already?  What do you do to help pass the time while your babies were in Mesquite Texas on 4250 Samuell Boulevard?
Sent my xbox in few times now and only got refurbished ones. And I also live in PA and it actually doesn't take too long for them to send you another one which always surprised me, both times I sent it away I got another one back rather fast.

I've only ever received a refurbished one. I just sent mine in 3 weeks ago for the disc drive dying again, and even for that I was sent a refurb, which is a pain in the butt. I just want mine back! I hate having to call every time to have them manually transfer the licenses for everything. Takes too bloody long.

They always sent me different consoles back, which is not as good because then you always have to be connected to xbox live in order to play all the arcade games you have downloaded on your old console.

You need to do a license transfer. You can only do it once per year though.

So does anyone know when if they are not already, when the jasper chip will be in the xbox's at stores.  Ive been on my second xbox for a long time now almost three years and I love it but it is dieing.  No rings of death but its sounding like it has a cold, lol.  Im not upset about it, its treated me well and Im pumped to be able to buy a new one with hdmi and a larger hardrive.  I just want to know when i can buy one and be confient that its not going to melt on me.

Wow, Don't you think it's a bit pathetic to have an entire sticky devoted to finding a 360 that might not break? I never heard of that with any other game console.

Not exactly. You can only do it once per year online. You can call in and have them do it manually for you if they shipped you a new console. It can take a couple of days though, but there's no limit. I've done it 3 times in a year. *grumble*

If you mean regularly in stores, who can say. I still see lot numbers at either #832 (arcade) or #841 (pro) at places like Best Buy and Futureshop (Montreal Region-Canada). I found my Jasper at a local Wal-Mart at lot #847 (pro unit) and they seem to be having that lot constantly now.

I think that one of the many reasons that it is taking so long is that people like us on this thread are holding out to get Jasper which means that it takes longer to get rid of stock (IMHO anyways - Wanted to get my first 360 in March and got it in June instead).

To the point, and this is important, some clerks/saleman will tell you the unit is Jasper even though it's not. Two of them tried (two different Futureshop) to sell me a unit that were Falcons. Good thing I make informed purchase...

I didn't know you could do that online and I thought it would be way to much trouble to do it over the phone and take forever so I never bothered lol. Can you tell me how to do it on here please? Thanks :-)

The license transfer page says that if you send in a console for repair, they automatically do the license transfer for you as part of the repair process when giving you a refurb.  Is this not true?

How long ago was your latest console sent to you?  Maybe it's a new practice of theirs.  In addition, the license transfer page says that all things like that (arcade games) need to be re-downloaded in order for it to work offline.  Have you done that?

I do think it is pathetic but I also think that MS is pathetic. It is also pathetic that you have to actually look to find a newer model. It should be clearly marked as a newer model.

Did you call M$ about it, and have them manually transfer your licenses first? Once they do that, then delete, and re-download the games. That should work. Has every time for me.

It depends on if you get someone that insists on following their script or not. This last time I got an email the next day saying that they had transferred the licenses and to redownload my purchases. The time before last it took a week and me complaining.

Look thru the small opening on the back of the box, if it has a 12.1A rating
and 150W power supply it's a Jasper.

By the way, UK Jasper hunters I have seen a ton of Jasper Arcades, Pros and Elites at my local Asda. So if you want to bag one then it is probably your best bet. Not tried Game as they won't let me look unless I am ready to shell out the cash and I am real skint at the moment.

I just got the new dashboard update. Seems a little quicker to me.

They DO exist, I have seen plenty of them. They have been sighted in Japan, Germany, Australia, and I have seen many in UK too.

I would not settle for a Falcon, especially now we know that they are out in the wild.
