15 months? I read the Jasper chipsets didnt come out until late august of 2008? At least its free to have it repaired, my ps3 did the yellow light of death crap after 14 months, it cost $149.99 to fix it.

Actually the Jasper arcades didn't hit store until mid/late Nov of last year.

Yeah, can't see it being a Jasper if I'm hinest.

Unless you live under a rock you should be aware that there is talk of a September price cut for the Elite. Might be worth waiting a couple of weeks to snag yourself a bargain. There is talk that they are to phase out the Pro.

I got a question, does getting a jasper really matter? Like, would it really be neccesary to bring my xbox 360 back and then look for a Jasper?

Does anyone know what the reliability of the Jaspers are in contrast to the older chipsets ? I'm fairly sure that I have a Jasper. My Xbox MFD is 02-02-09. PSU is 150W. Xbox 360 is rated 12A. The lot number is: 0913 The team is: ADUE

You do indeed have a Jasper. As for the failure rate I would say pretty low when compared to the previous incarnations. Not heard many reports of any issues.

That is correct,thanks i forgot the name. Well it didn't solve the probelms as ups just marked it delivered in the last hour.

I am happy, I bought my new Xbox yesterday :
- Jasper ( obviously lol )
- 512 MB Internal memory
- 150 Watt power supply LITE ( the new and small one )
- Nidec Fans
- Lite On drive ( I prefer this one for the noise )

Heres the difference between the Jasper and the Falcon. The Jasper has a better cooling system among other things) to keep it cooled down and from getting the red rings. Basically this redesign is to make your Xbox last a year or two longer than the previous models. So no it is not necessary, but if you see yourself getting a new Xbox once yours craps out on you, you should find a Jasper to save you money in the long run.

That would be incorrect. There was no design changes to the actual system to allow for a better cooling system. The difference between a jasper and falcon is the dye of the GPU. Falcon has a 90nm gpu (some contest the dye was shrunk a little bit to 80nm) and 65nm cpu. Jasper has both at 65nm. The reduxtion in dye should reduce the amount of heat the sytem creates. Therefore a reduction in heat should hopefully allow the system to last longer.

I have a question, If a Jasper system dies and it has to be sent back to xbox will I receive a Jasper back. I know you only sent xbox your console and my power supply is the 150w one so it only works with jasper. What do they send back?

I would guess they have to send you a jasper back or they would have to send you a new power unit with the console. And its only fair to get the same kind of unit you had especially if its a better version. But who knows, microsoft is not always fair lol. Good luck though.....hope you get a jasper back :-)

I have seen a load of 360 owners reporting that they have the onboard memory. Not seen anything other than Jasper, so that is good news.

My falcon Pro RRoD'd last night without warning.  It was less than 2yrs. old, and well cared for.  I purchaced the Best Buy replacement plan with it.  Boxed it all up, and took it to BB this morning.  After some minor aggravation, I was told to grab a new one off the shelf.  I was able to slide the console in the box just enough to see the 12.1A rating through the slot.

Confirmed Jasper Pro:   Lot# 918, Team: JREY, Nidec fans, BenQ drive, 150W PSU.

The Jasper with Nidec fans is much quieter than my falcon.  The falcon had Sunon fans, and was fairly quiet relative to the Deltas.

I put my old hard drive on the new console, and ran throught he license transfer routine.  As I re-downloaded my arcade titles and map packs, I noticed that a couple of my favorites were missing from my download history.  Wound up spending too much time getting nowhere with MS tech support trying to get this resolved.  They claim there is no way that those could be missing from my download/purchase history list unless they were purchased under another gamertag or copied from some other system.  Neither is the case.  I purchased and downloaded these titles myself.  Not sure how this will work out, but I won't be happy if I have to pay for these games twice.

A friend of mine sent in a Xephyr a few months ago and they sent him a brand new Jasper with a brand new power supply. I just sent my E74'd Falcon (that I bought new as a replacement for my RROD'd Xephyr last year) in earlier this week and am hoping for a Jasper return, but not really expecting it. I expect a repair or refurb. However, last year when I RROD'd they sent me a brand new Falcon which I sold as I had already bought my replacement.

Whoever asked about sending in a Jasper and getting one back, its not a guarantee. If they send you a refurb, you may get one of the older boxes back. The only guarantee return is if you send an Arcade, you're getting an arcade back (same with Elite and Pro), and if you have HDMI, you'll get an HDMI unit back. The chipset is no guarantee. However, the saving grace is that the power supply for the Jasper is unique, so they'd have to send the older power supply as well. Id imagine if you send a Jasper, you'll get one back just because of that. Its just not a guarantee.

Well I hope I get lucky like your freind I just sent mine in today just droped it off at UPS. Would love it if I got a Jasper back. Was thinking about getting a new pro with the new price its a good deal. Mine is a falcon that was just under 2 years old.

Yea, I had to send my Falcon in this past Tuesday. I had it a year this past June. I'm hoping for a Jasper, but if not, whatever. I'm not buying another new console. If this coming replacement one tanks, Im going to return it again and sell whatever they send back. It's not worth the hassle putting up with this crap.

Not that I'm not believing that Jaspers could fail but highly doubt you had a Jasper if it's 15 months old. It hasn't even been a year since they hit the market.

Just got back from Target and they still have the old black packaged elites...i doubt they are jaspers. What do you guys think, should I just buy this on sunday with the free controller w/ HDMI or is it better to wait it out for a white packaged elite?

I've been out of the loop with regard to Elites Jaspers.  Are the Elite Jaspers as rare as they once were?  I assume that the new Elite price drop should get rid of the existing Elite Falcons, and lead to more Elite Jaspers soon, right?  One poster mentioned a white box.  If the Elite is in a white box, then it is 100% Jasper?  Thanks!!
