Fortunately enough I've not had any issues with NHL 2k6 freezing.  I'm 20 games into my franchise season.   I've downloaded the 12/15/05 roster update and still no problem.  I think the reason why I haven't had any issues with freezes is cause I don't save my profile after each game when it asks if I want to save my game profile.  What I suggest you do is reformat your HD, reinsert your NHL 2k6 disk, set up your game profile, set up your franchise season but never, and I mean never save anything to your profile once you've created it.  See if that helps.

I don't see anything else as being an issue cause I've saved my game strategies and settings on my HD and I've not had any issues doing so.  The Game Profile I think is the only thing causing the freeze.  Let me know if my suggestion works for anyone.  Good Luck.

I've finally gotten the loading freeze.  Geez.  I think the reason behind the loading screen freeze is the inability for the CPU to adjust rosters when a roster is changed do to a trade or injury.  I say this cause prior to playing the game before the loading freeze I made a trade, and it was a three for two trade, and I think that because the CPU is retarded it's not capable of making the proper adjustments for the team I traded with.  Thus the Anaheim roster is incomplete and therefore the game cannot advance, thus the freeze.  I hope that made sense.  This sucks, but this hockey game is still by far the best at simulation.  EA's brand is way to arcadish to say the least.  Peace.

Re: Freeze on loading screen!

Gentlemen. I've just started going thru this bull again myself. After having the problem early on, back in March or so. Microsoft sent me a new hard drive and it fixed the hang on loading problem........ all the way into the semi-finals of a season then pow, here it comes again. The Microsoft people were so good about it but this problem arising twice on two different hard drives is extremely suspect. I have now given up on my season and deleted the game from my memory but I've tried that in the past so I expect the hang will still show up if I reload it and start again. I'm curious about this cache clearing process you guys have talked about with the up, down, right, left, b, a button thingy. Are you guys talking about the d-pad or the left thumbstick? I'd like to give that a try when I'm almost positive the hang will oce again show up upon another reload. Was a real bummer to go thru almost a complete quest for the cup drive to be screwed by 2K once again.Christ, I just bought their baseball game yesterday but haven't broken the wrapper yet. Do you think I should? Or just take it back and boycott their games?

On another board I heard all you have to do to clear the cache is press the "A" Button till you get the to game logo screen.  It hasn't worked for me, may be doing it wrong, but if you could post a link to the Clearing Cache thread you referred to above I'd greatly appreciate it.  I'd like to try this before giving up hope.  Thanks.

Re: Freeze on loading screen!

Ok, well I tried everything to get past the loading screen freeze, and everything everyone recommended just didn't work.  I'm reluctant to have my HD replaced cause I don't think it's an HD issue, I think it's a game issue where the AI is not intelligent enough to set a freakin' roster after a trade is made.  I honestly think the loading freeze has everything to do with when a player is traded or gets hurt.

The only solution to my problem was to go and spend more money and invest in a memory card.  What I then did was move all my important files from my HD to my memory card, then I deleted the files I no longer wanted and then I formatted the HD.  I went in and played a game, and NO Loading Freeze, Yeeepeeee!  Now I wish I would of done this sooner, would of avoided all the frustrations.  Peace.

I have said this before on here.. but one thing you can try is putting in a bunch of games... starting them, then taking them out...you can use Xbox, or xbox 360 games... I used about 3 or 4 xbox games then the same amount of 360 games... it has worked for me every time..

I gave this a shot before buying a memory unit, didn't work dude.  I've bought the memory unit, and the game is working flawlessly.  You want to get rid of all the headaches, just invest in a memory unit.  It's the only solution.  Good luck guys.

dude.... when you got your 360 doesnt matter at all.. Its not the 360, its the programming in the game. I got mine on November 22 and it has done the same thing.. Its definately the game because MLB 2k6 (which sucks) does the same thing.

Just got my Xbox back from the shop (Ring of red light issue) and was able to save a completed game for the first time since I bought 2K6.   Not sure what was broke in my Xbox but I can save hockey games now!

Not worth it. Gonna go with NHL 07 this year.

The game is selling for 39 bucks.. so trading it would be worthless.

however.. I do wanna get rid of PGR3, Hockey and maybe Fight Night, which I bought and have only played twice since.

They need to come up with a good  UFC Game.

Re: Freeze on loading screen!

Might as well throw mine in as well...

Hired it today, played 1 (that's ONE) Quick Game, just to check it out, quit half way ... or should I say ... tried to quit half way, it hung on the loading screen, all I can do now is play one game, return to dashboard, reload, play one game, repeat.

No roster changes, no line changes, no anything changes, still hangs...and I'm positive it's not my console because this is the first game that has hung on me, and I've played a few. Has anyone tested this game?

Commercial products that hang on demand:
  NHL 2K6 on 360
iTunes for Windows (with a spectacular screaming lockup :-)

So the general consensus to fix this problem would be to forgo the hard drive and save all the crap for this game on my memory card? Anybody know if a fix to this is in the works?

yeah... 2k7..... personally I would go with NHL 07 this year and I have been a 2k faithfull for 4 years... Their gameplay is more realistic but EA has rebuilt and the early word from previewers is NHL is very solid.

Just wanted to add my name to the list of those with the LOADING screen problem. What's weird for me is that I was about 30+ games into my season.

Anyway, thank goodness next year's hockey games are coming out soon, I guess. Check it out:

Re: Freeze on loading screen!

Hey guys:

A while back I do remember when I was having a game freezing issue with madden football 2005 for the ps2. I called EA up, I told them the game would freeze right before I would go into the francise mode. They had told me to erase my updated rosters and download them again from the live roster update and to make sure that save was the only thing on the memory card at the time. My problem with that is I don't buy a memory card just to only have one game save on it, you know.

What I learned from this issue on my own is........ I am a person who likes to have my rosters resemble the real life rosters at the start of the season/franchise. Now lets say there was a real life transaction that occured after the on-line roster update that you choose to just update on your own. In my findings I have found that this is a issue. I believe the game is having issues with the actual on-line roster update. And the more you tinker with the roster update before your season/franchise begins, your chances of freezing increase.

When they update the rosters they take alot of info out and put alot of info in, there are bound to be some problem, freezes, glitches and by no means am I excusing them. I'd much rather have them keep the game than have us waste our money money on defected merchandise. We have every right to be pissed off, do you think 2k or microsoft thought about you when they were making the price of the game? I don't think so, 60 dollars is alot of money for a defective item and that's excudling the tax. Now I am a very understanding person and these are electronics and issues may arise, although we the paying customers that must demand that these things get fixed "that's bottom line". And don't think for a second that you can't hurt them, you can stop buying 2ks games or whoever that company may be that does not take care of their fanbase. Because where they fail, another company is waiting in the wings which gives you a choice.

Now this is a major issue because we all love to have updated rosters, and some of use like them updated to the tee, even if we have to update a lil more because we fix some transaction the update missed. You can test this out for yourself aswell. When you first put the game in your system and start from scratch with the original factory rosters without uploading any of the companies on-line roster updates, you will have less of a chance of the game freezing on you only because those are the roster that are implanted and basically written in stone on the disc.

The X box 360 game that froze on me was NBA 2K6. The have been a slew of trades/transactions since 2k's last roster update, so I chose to do the deals on my own. Low and behold when I tried to exit back to the games main menu after a few franchise games, it chose to freeze. So what I might suggest don't make any deals after the roster update, try to make all of your moves while you are in your season/ franchise mode. This may cause you to actually have to leave the setting "trade overide" set to on so you can make any real life moves that may occur, but like I said do them with in your season mode and not from your games main menu. Try your best not to tinker with the live roster update. I know it sucks not to because we all like to have our exhibition rosters reflect the real life rosters aswell. If you get in that situation you may just have to keep two rosters, the untouched online roster update, and tinkered on-line roster update. I really wish we didn't have any of these issues, but I hope I might have been of some help to all or maybe be some of you.

Keep your head up and put your game face on!

Re: Freeze on loading screen!

Just an FYI that I still get teh loading freeze with a memory card.  The only way I don't get the loading freeze is if I unhook my hard drive first and then play the game.  I definitely won't be buying 2K7 with as big of a problem as this not getting fixed.  I've been buying it since 2K3 every year and this is the first year I won't buy a new version.

I am sick and tired of software companies pushing crap on us consumers.

Re: Freeze on loading screen!

This is going to sound really weird but I have the same problem on EA NHL 2007 !! It is exactly the same thing happening. A never ending loading screen.

Has anyone had a similar problem. I can't find anyone who has yet. I have tried two different copies of the game. I am sure it is not my xbox360 because all my other games work fine.

Like I said, this doesn't work for me unless I remove the HD completely and play with only the memory card installed.  As soon as I install the HD, even if I'm using the memory card, I get the loading freeze.

It sucks too because I hate EA and won't buy another 2K product because of this so I don't have a hockey game to play on the 360.  Maybe I'll try to hunt down a used copy of EA's game so they don't directly get my money.  Sucks for 2K sports as I have been buying it every year since 2K3.

Re: Freeze on loading screen!

Yeah Same issue here. Canadian Bought Xbox, January Model.

I did a Few trades picked up a Few free agents and dumped some other players to Free Agents. Game was playing perfectly, till about 27 games into the season when poof, Profile Save freeze. If I say no it still freezes if I say yes it still freezes.

EA from  my knowledge is about cash and not Fans. With BF1942 - BF2142 whenever a problem arises it takes them 30,000 complaints and Three months before any patches happen or any fault is admitted. In most cases for CPU they tell you buy a better graphics card, spend more money ect ect.

So maybe its time for them to understand their Giant of a company can fall if they keep making games at the speed of light and releasing them with sooooo soooo many flaws. What we care about afterall is Longevity, reliability, Visuals and overall Fun factor.

Games like Ultima Online (Before EA bought out Origin systems), Goldeneye(Rare), MorroWind (Bethesda), Fallout 1,2 (So awesome)  all Great games with minimal Flaws and Years of Good gaming fun. I think its time to get back to reality in the gaming industry and understand we dont mind waiting 2 years for a New game when its older version gave us years of Fun.

Just a thought, from a 20 year Gamer.
