Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
Hi I am a new user to these forums.

I am also having problems with the Wireless Gaming Receiver and have read through all these posts and like many it is a logitech device that it is conflicting with.  I have had to uninstall my G15 drivers to get it to work but recently my logitech headset started playing up and was making strange noises.  So I decided to go and buy a new headset, again a logitech one because I trust logitech.  When this headset started having the same problems I became annoyed.  My PC would lock up randomly when having the headset plugged in.  If I unplugged the headset, the lockup would stop.  Eventually I found out that the same would occur if I unplugged my Wireless Gaming Receiver - the lokcup would stop. This is where I became really pissed off, I had thrown away my old headset and had wasted money on a new unnecessary headset, I realise I was silly to throw my old headset away but I had thought it was no longer working, I even took it apart to see if I could find anything wrong with it.
Right now I have just given up and am not uing my Wireless Gaming receiver and have resorted back to an old Playstation 2 controller with a usb - PS2 adapter.  I looked forward to being able to use Wireless controllers with my PC for the freedom from wires, but it seems right now I cannot.  Until Microsoft sort this out, I am not going to use their product.
Is there nothing we can do to get them to sort this out?  Perhaps send them a petition or something?

Ok, that's sweet.  Now if everyone can just send this to as many people they know that have this problem maybe Microsoft will actually start to LISTEN and do something.

Woke up this morning and saw my computer telling me it'd like to install an update for this accessory.  Anyone know what the update is for?  I was too busy to check because I was already late for work.

Yeah, I just did an update for my drivers but I did not pay enough attention to the details of the previous drivers to know what changed.

Driver Date: Feb 15, 2007
Driver Details:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\xusb21.sys v 9.17.897.0000
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WdfCoInstaller01001.dll v 1.1.0.0 (winmain(wmbla).060420-0021)

The xusb21.sys file seems entirely new to me...gonna play around with it a bit and see.

EDIT:  Nope...still completely busted.  The controller will not finish syncing.

So I still have to reboot my machine to get it to finish sync'ing (unacceptable) and my controller is STILL showing as Wheel (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows) in the game controller control panel.

Lovely.

Nothing has changed.

That's what has annoyed me most as well. It's still seen as a wheel rather than a pad. I want the triggers to be seen as buttons if I wish damnit. I even emailed customer support but they never replied. That was a few weeks ago. It's useless to me as it is. Come on MS, listen to the customers.

Here's what worked for me (on both my XP machine and Vista).  I bought a $25.00 hub at Best Buy and plugged it into that hub.  For some reason it worked.  Can't guarantee that it will work for everyone, but with it like that, it works perfectly, I just got through playing Geometry Wars for Vista with it.  Good luck.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
I'm having problems too, but still, I must be one of the lucky ones. My controller syncs fine and appears as a gamepad. However, I'm having xinput vs DirectInput issues...

The 360 controller can work as either an xinput or DirectInput controller. Xinput is the new standard so only newer games support it. Unfortunately, the DirectInput mode on the 360 controller is very broken (you can tell when it's using DirectInput because the right stick will stop working, and you'll have deadzone issues on the left stick).

This was easy to deal with on the wired 360 controller. You could install XBCD360, which is a community-made DirectInput driver. Or you could play only xinput-compatible games. I've been playing a lot of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Jade Empire: SE so xinput worked fine for me with my wired controller.

However, the wireless receiver makes these games default to DirectInput! Jade Empire and Marvel are unplayable unless I get out the wired controller. I hope this is a driver issue because I can't see Activision patching Marvel any time soon.

Does anyone know what games are playable with this device. I'm trying to get Doom 3 and Far Cry to work with no luck. I can sync fine as long as my xbox power cord is disconnected.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

I just want to contribute to this thread since it helped me configure this.

I seriously thought I had a defunked product, but its your computer.

Its true what they said, unplug all or atleast USB-based hardwares like your Printer, webcam, mouse or keyboard, but My mouse is USB and its connected now and the controller is working fine, so I suggest  unplugging printer and webcam only.

My thing is already working.  If certain games does not work with the controller.  Use a program called Xpadder.   Google it and youll be able to use this bad boy on games like counterstrike Source.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
So everyone's PC is the problem and not the receiver? I agree that it isn't the receiver. But it is how-ever the awful drivers. It's unacceptable to get behind your PC and unplug every USB device everytime it doesn't work.

That's like putting your car up on bricks, taking the wheels off, turning the engine on and then putting the wheels back on every time it wont start up.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

I purchased the wireless receiver with a wireless controller, and had been using it without problem on Vista.

However, when I plugged in my Wacom INTUOUS Tablet, my wireless controller stopped functioning.  It seems like the receiver is recognizing it since it stops blinking when I sync them, but the controller's RoL keeps on blinking.

I found out that if I reboot my computer with my tablet unplugged, I can use the wireless.  But once I plug the tablet in, I have to restart to get my controller back.

What's this.  What the *** is this?!  Is this MGS's fault or Wacom's fault?  I guess I can see why they'd conflict (two input devices) but they really should have tested this and came out with a solution.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

Arright, I've read through this whole thing. What're you blokes doing that I'm not?

I followed the Instructions for Idiots (that be, 'do what the pictures do' instructions that came with it). Nothin'.

Installed the latest patch. Nothin'.

Did every bleedin' thing you chaps did. Bugger all.

When I try to sync, the WGR light goes off and the 360 controller just keeps doing its 'I'm waiting for you to do something' ring-blink. It acts like it's synced for all of half a second (the ring blinks three times fast) and then goes to its standard one-blink-per-second.

The WGR just sits there like a lump o' wasted money.

If it's any consolation, my console's unplugged, my only USB device is my wireless network card (which was unplugged most of the time I've tried this) and when I plug in the WGR I don't get the XP 'device connected' sound.

I'm about ready to tear my bleedin' ears off. Can someone PLEASE help?

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

OK... followup on my last post, which may help explain why those of you using USB hubs have no problem... XP just told me a moment ago that one of the devices has exceeded the power output of the USB hub. (This is for my only two-set of USB 2.0-- and the WGR was the only thing plugged in.) So I've figured out the prollem, now I just have to get my USB hub to draw power from its' power cord. It turns on for a moment then shuts off, like it's not drawing enough power... or not making an actual connection. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

Cheers.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
Why has MS not released a patch for the driver?

The driver is definately the part that is broken with this issue. It doesn't take much to deduce that, but why are we blatetently being ignored by MS?

I just got my hands on the LifeChat ZX-6000 today and the receiver is the exact same one, only black. Exact same dissappointing results too! Sad [:(] So now they've released two products that don't work for a great many of us.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
I can confirm that using a USB hub does fix the problem. I was having the same results as many. Receiver would cause my other USB devices to stop functioning including my Logitech G7 mouse and my Saitek Gamer's Keyboard. I picked up a small powered hub and plugged only the gaming receiver into it and everything suddenly started working fine. And like the above poster said, it has to be a powered hub with it's own AC adapter otherwise the receiver will not work properly. I guess this is a fix until MS gets it together.
