Re: no video but i have audio

I am totally down on the lawsuit idea for this is getting to be rediculous. Im have had several recurring issue I have had 3 red lights with err 73/74 I have also had to replace my harddrive and also get 1 red light with err 68.. Now on top of that I aam having a video issue that just started yesterday where I have faint ghost like scrolling lines that move across screen which I know is not my tv. I have tried several cables and tvs and noticed it is worse in the 1080i setting though vga seems ok for now but what the freak why are we being bamboozled by microsoft again.. THis is the sam as the original xbox as far as quality is concerned it is crap.   WE ALL NEED TO BAND TO GETHER AND SUE MICROSOFTS BOOTIE FOR THEY CONTINUE TO IGNORE THE FACT THE THEY REALEASED A PRODUCT WITH A 33% FAILURE RATE.

This is proposturous fixing the issue with a band aid aint working they keep extending warranties because they kinow what they did is wrong but that is besides the point. It is not enough to just fix it. They need to recall the 360 wide spread and either issue refunds to people or give them a brand new system now a refurbished one as they do now for the failure rate on refurbished consoles is 90% or higher as per the trend we consumers see in having to have multiple replacements due to shoody repair and q.a. pratice.

Come on microsoft you need to pay what you owe and this warrenty is not enough it just says you know you are selling a faulty product at highway robbery prices. For the 400+ $ that we all have spent is it wrong to deamnd quality the first time around? You should be provide a lot more than a repair or refurbished system due to all the recurring issue you should send out new systems to you consumers who have had to send theirs in due to the trend and even higher faluire rate of the repair or refurbed systems.

SO DO WE NEED TO SUE MICROSOFT????? I THINK YES> I AM ACTUALLY IN PROCESS OF FILING A BBB COMPLAINT AND AM CONSIDERING A COMPLAINT TO USA DOJ FOR THIS IS BEYOND DECEPTION. ANY ONE WANNA JION?

Add me to the list. I've had the same symptoms, beginining about a month ago, and have tried all the same fixes, to no avail, however. Seems like only a matter of time before the red lights of doom. Does anybody else think this widespread problem may be the reason for the warrenty term increase?

I totally feel it is widespread and the funny thing is all of us poor schmoes having it in relativly the same tame frame give or take a day or so. And is it strange Peter Moore keep shouting the 3 flashing red lights as if he knows there are more than that issue but they dont want to mention or address it???? It is strange that we all are having these same issues?? No, it is not for microsucks know that they did wrong by releasing the design flawed 360 as is today. They really should have taken a few extra months to perfect the cooling and drive issues as well as video. What microsoft has released is a tiking timebomb doomed to have mass critcal failures over its short life span which most average under a year.

I feel we all whom have had issues with our 360 need to speak out and demand a brand new replacment when/if we need to send ours in not some refurbished unit doomed to the same failures as the predacessor.

Re: no video but i have audio

Hate to keep the thread going, but add yet another victim to the list.  I started having video errors playing Rainbow 6 Vegas.  Then I tried Gears and got video issues.  Tried resetting the video per Microsoft's tech support instructions (they told me to hold down the Y button and rigth trigger while booting the console).  After the video reset, no video at all.  You can hear the audio just fine (Xbox chime on boot and Vegas booting) but nothing but a black screen.  My console is back at Microsft for repair since last Friday.  Just got off the phone with them and they told me to expect 2 - 4 weeks for turn around on repair right now based on their current backlog.  At least I'm under warranty (had the console for less than a year with an MS extended warranty), but THIS SU@K$!!!!

At least MS has finally publicly admitted they have problems.  They really need to hire/trian more repair techs to get these things turned around in a reasonable time frame.  I've read the horror stories and hope this isn't just the first of many reapairs to come.

And one more to add...
I was playing FF4: Rise of the Silver Surfer with no problems this afternoon, and this evening my son was on Need for Speed: Carbon and when he went to reset the machine for some reason, the blank screen with the white dots appeared.
Nothing to do with Xbox Live, since the box isn't connected to my modem.
Really bizarre to come on here and see so many people having the same problem, all within the last month or so!

Add me to this. It happened like 2-3 days ago. I was foolish enough to waste $45 on AV Cables as well. This is my 3rd dead 360.. the other two were to Spring updates and other malfunctions I couldn't prevent. This is ridiculous. And they expected me to pay $99 even when I explained the circumstances. I don't have Forza and I haven't played online in awhile.

Why would you want to force 3 red lights?  I would just tell the service rep that it's doing this so you can send it in.  What's the worse that can happen they, send it back still broken or they charge you to fix it.  If you were going to pay to have it fixed anyway you might as well take a chance.  I know I will if this happens to my box.

This is going to be long but we will see what you guys all think.......

I bought my xbox 360 (manufactured 12-5-05) a week after Christmas in '05. It has worked great until about 2 weeks ago (around the 22nd or so of June). Forza 2 is a game played on this system but not by me (so I can't comment on the issues there..but i do have the game played on this system). I was playing Madden 2007 in an online game where I was experiencing color shift and color tints appear based on which team had the ball (49ers=Red tint; Titans=Blue Tint) which would come and go. The next night my roomate attempted to play Forza and got not video but diagonial pink and white lines across screen (sound continues to work).

I tried another A/V cable with no luck..and I tried the cable on another Xbox; which worked fine.

I then preceeded to call Microsoft to see if they could help me. I get an english as a second language service rep and he basically states that I need to send in the 360 and pay $140 to get it repaired. I laugh at him and ask for a supervisor. He gives me the same thing.

Then I see in the USA TODAY that the warranty had been extended to three years I was excited and happy that Microsoft stepped up to the plate. I proceed to call them again and I'm told "The warranty extension is from those console owners with 3 RED LIGHTS!!!" I basically tell the guy that the whole thing is a joke.

Also I have called 1800-4-MYXBOX on three different occasions with this problem..and I have gotten the same service rep each time. Is this a one-man operation??

So I decide to try a few things, and when I removed the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) I was able to get picture and everything seemed to work fine.

So is this a HDD problem, a bad dashboard update or game update (Forza??), or something along those lines?

I don't want to re-format HDD without knowing if that is truly the cause, because some of my games saves need to be retained if at all possible.

PLEASE HELP or give feedback to if removing the HDD returned picture to the screen.

Re: no video but i have audio
Just another statistic. Happened about a week ago, I moved my 360 from downstairs (tv) to my monitor. It didn't get a signal so I thought it was the cable. I went out and bought another set still didn't work. Tried it in my TV and now white dots just diagonally zigzag across the screen. I'll be sending mine in soon.

same thing over here also. I get the black screen with the white dots also no matter what TV I use and no matter what AV cable I use (I have two working AV cables). I also get yellow discoloration. I think this has something to do with our video cards guys. Microsoft, if you are seeing this.. please include this in the warranty!

but I was just wondering, is this "video card" failure we're expericing, in some way connected to the 3 red rings dilemma? Because my uncle's 360 had the same black screen/white dot problem, and then he got the three red rings sometime after...

Re: no video but i have audio

Yep, me too.  Coffins on the way.

I was rolling this around a little bit and damn this is strange.  So many people in the same time frame.  Some people connected to Live, some playing offline and they all get popped at the same time.  I'm wondering if it could possibly be a background update from some of the new games that came out recently?  Or discs that were just recently printed?  I was playing Burnout when it happened to me, but I had just recently purchased Overlord which just came out a few weeks ago.  I see alot of Forza 2 players gettin popped too.  And I saw that this happened to people while playing Halo 2, but had these people that were playing these older games loaded a newer game recently?  So what I'm wondering is.....

Has anyone else purchased / played a newly released game before your screen got blanked? Or a disc that was recently printed?

I could be waaaay off here but I'm just curious.

I'm a BurnoutAholic I can admit it.

This is incredible.  I just read all of these.  I'm really ticked.  I thought it had to be the cable.  I bought a new one on Amazon, to get here Tuesday.  Now I doubt it's that based upon this.  I have the EXACT same symptoms.

I don't have the receipt, but we bought this for the kids in fall of '06 and gave it to them at Christmas.  Do you guys think since we don't have the reciept we'll have to buy a whole new console???

Microsoft Admits Hardware Issue, Extends 360 Warranty

Includes retroactive reimbursement for previous machines.
By Patrick Klepek, 07/05/2007

Microsoft announced today they are extending all Xbox 360 warranties to three years, a policy that not only applies to new consoles but retroactively, as well. If you've had to pay for Microsoft to repair the red ring issue in the past, they will pay you back. At 2:30 p.m. PST, Microsoft will hold a teleconference to announce this.

"As a result of what Microsoft views as an unacceptable number of repairs to Xbox 360 consoles, the company conducted extensive investigations into potential sources of general hardware failures," said the company in a statement. "Having identified a number of factors which can cause general hardware failures indicated by three red flashing lights on the console, Microsoft has made improvements to the console and is enhancing its Xbox 360 warranty policy for existing and new customers."

whos telling you to force the red lights im not even sure if thats possible .3 red lights means hardware failure.2means overheated so if your talking about what i said , the towel trick doesnt give you the 3 red lights but it does fix this problem everyone is having.

Because the repair is free with the red lights.. but this problem isn't covered by the warranty so you hafta pay $99. It makes no sense at all, but that's how Microsoft decides to handle business. It's kind of a joke.

I think it's the video card going bad.  If the video card is bad, then that means hardware failure, right?  And hardware failure is represented with the 3 red lights, but since we don't get the 3 red lights, why can't we send it in for free, or get the extended warranty?

I think we all need some answers, fast.
