If this issue is not resolved soon, I am going to jump on the Sony bandwagon, because at least they don't sell defective products.
I love the 360, but I'm only prepared to stand so much of them breaking down. I'm currently on my 3rd 360, the 1st two had the RRoD (the 1st after only 2 days!!) and my current one is now 15 months old and the video output is crapping up with blue pixels all around objects even on the dashboard. I switched the thing on earlier and the tray won't open now unless I tap the top of the console!
It's not as if its had much use, maybe averaging 4 hours per week if that!
I hate to admit it, but I really am considering moving over to the PS3 which would be such a shame as I love Live and the 360's controllers. If I can get hold of the new Elite with a Falcon chip in it, I may give it a 4th chance but its impossible to tell if they have the Falcon chip unless you actually go into the box and look on the power brick or the 360 itself and shops don't want to open brand new boxes for me to check (which is fair enough I suppose).
Come on Microsoft, get it together! You have a lot of loyal fans out there that support your products! You have given the 360 a reputation of something that is forever breaking down and are losing current customers and potential customers through it. I was in Game (UK) the other day and even the salesman was steering people away from the 360 due to all the problems its having, telling them to go for a Wii or a PS3 instead, neither of which were in stock at the time! Surely you know what is causing the RRoD and other problems, and after 2 years of the 360 being on sale, maybe its time to get it sorted!
