i disgagree COD4 should be part of franchise. Call Of Duty doesnt have to be WW2 to be about men doing duty 4 their country (what the whole franchise is about) why restrict this to a WW2 genre completely. If COD4 had been another WW2 the audiance would have been far smaller and i dont think it would have won the award for best shooter at all. Why complain about something new and different, the switch to a modern period should be welcome and a relief. Old WW2 genre has been overdone and they made the right decision switching.

 

MLG might take up COD4 but they might not.... well see later on in the season. GB has taken up COD4 which MLG own but whether they take it up at events is debatable.

I'm back to COD3 with passion.

Thank god I see that there are many people returning. Nowadays, i do a search for player war games and find like 15 matches, last week I was finding an average of 5. I might just be able to get a ranked match going soon....lol....

All my mates are getting into COD4, but I was on the beta, and bought it the day it came out, and now I am over it and back to COD3... I love the team work, the guns, the maps... sure the graphics and frame rate arent as good (COD4 owes it's success to DirectX10!... there I said it  :-)

I too find myself going back to COD3. There's more teamplay in COD3 than in COD4. I mean you have medics than can heal teamates. If you run out of ammo you can just ask a support or anti armor to give you some. Getting more ammo if your a rifleman or medic gives you more smoke to be thrown in specific places in the different game types. Vehicles are nice in 3. They help you get around more in COD3 huge maps. COD4 has some nice features as well. Such as the graphics. Really crisp and realistic. Choppers and airstrikes are fun to call in but you can only call them in once. After that you need to die before calling airstrikes and choppers. It's more one man for himself in COD4.

People actually prefer CoDIII over 2 or 4?  WOW!  I played 2 for over a year... I just couldnt get into 3. 

4 reminds me of 2.  So... so far so good with four.

Not necessarily. I share the same view and will admit COD4 is my most played recent game. Mainly because of this prestige gimmic and most people are playing 4 these days. The point I made before was I would rather everyone went back to 3 and left 4. My views of 4 have changed but only slightly. I still don't think it's as good as 3 and I think if there weren't 10 levels of prestige and a wad of unlockables/challenges a lot of people wouldn't be playing this as much, including me. Obviously everyone is entitled to an opinion, but when they're false and poorly supported I feel the need to post. CoD3 had the third most active ladder for it's duration, it also had a massive amount of talent come out of it considering the size of the community. Now I still don't understand the need to compare and debate which game is better (especially in the same series), because opinions will differ and a solid conclusion will never be reached. Honestly CoD4 is a much higher quality game compared to 3, also realize Treyarch had a very limited amount of time to make 3, either way 3 was the funnest online experience I've ever had.

Also, I played the whole series and have to say CoD4 is by far my biggest disappointment.

One week out of 52, CoD3 was in the top 3 for online games played over XBL.

CoD4 wasn't even out a full two months and it trumped it in numbers online in LESS THAN TWO MONTHS.  Not to mention that it's barely above Crackdown in Online play.  Yep.. you fail.

Strange how COD2 was the first game I got with my 360 along with PGR3. I then went on to buy 3 and 4 when they were released, I bet you don't even have all 3? Statistics don't lie? Yes they do. Transformers has previously topped the charts, what's that, Wii best selling console I tell numerous people this who have no understanding of what defines a good game. Sales figures, number of players etc do not define a good game. Only the game itself can decide that.

COD3 I describe as an aquired taste. COD2 and 4 and more acadey shooters that most game players will enjoy. That is why 3 was not so popular. It's like Shadowrun for example. You need to give it time to understand how good it is.

Incase you did not realise what I said in my last post I was stating how like the OP COD4 is also my most played recent game. I am not denying it is a good game, but that is all it is, a game with a few gimmics. It does it well. COD3 was like a way of life. Everyone on there was defined by their skill levels and it was a great gaming experience. No one is doubting it is your opinion, but you are basically arguing with our opinion, so don't go down that route, this is basically a debate. where people are entitled to disagree with someones opinion.

I've been playing CoD, well since probably before you even started gaming tbh. CoD 3 was made by a company who doesn't make great games.  There is no 'learning curve' to CoD3, you want learning curve, go play EVE Online, or OFP - Maybe VBS1.  It was you get allied, you're 90% guaranteed to win, Axis 10% chance of winning.

If you ask any good COD3 riflemen they will tell you the Kar98(Axis) is the best weapon to use. Including me. So Allies always beats Axis is another one of your arguementative opinions that is pointless.

Exactly. Sorry Casgamer,but he's right. And you think the kar is better than the garand? I don't think so. Sure,it has more power but you can only fire one bullet at a time and that's retarded. If 2 guys approach you instantly after eachother ur done for with the kar.

And no,you are not certain of a kill with the kar. You sometimes need 2 shoot them twice as well.

The kar is great on big maps such as arrete de poisson,foret decouves,... but if i'm on rue de rasoir or fort du crane

i prefer the garand. It all depends.

In short: everything is a matter of taste. It doesn't matter wich game is more popular than another. Every man has to look for himself what he likes more.

I can bet that if everyone could only test games by just playing them without knowing a name or any form of opinion there would be other different games on the top. Don't underestimate the influence of the commercials and hypes. It's easy to get carried away by them

The Kar98 is a one shot kill. It is all about accuracy, if you shoot someone in the leg or arm then they will need a second shot. Same goes for the M1. If you read what I said you will see that I mentioned how most of the top riflemen on COD3 prefer the Kar for this reason. You get two people come to you fast at close range then sure it's going to be a little harder to kill both of them, sometimes it's easier, with a bit of practise. Most people will go for the M1 like yourself because they do not have the skill or are too lazy to improve their accuracy. Not to mention it is a medium to long rage weapon so if you are getting yourself in those situations you shouldn't be using a rifle at all.

I have no idea what you are talking about by commercialisation or hype. Surely if that were the case then 4 would be my game of choice. As I have explained on many occassions my reason for liking 3 more and that which are shared by the people in this thread. So if you think we prefer 3 because it has some sort of hot shot title you need to do some research then come back and speak to us.

I just wanna state that the *** you are saying about 4 is bollocks. You can work together and if that radar and stuff bothers you that much you can play hardcore. Besides, if you wanna be a tactic play co op graw2 or vegas, not cod3.

As i said before: it's all about taste. 3 ISNT BETTER THAN 4 AND 4 ISNT BETTER THAN 3!!!

4 is technically the better game. However, I prefer 3. Which is my opinion due to taste as you say. All people are doing in here is giving their opinion on what they think lets 4 down and makes 3 superior as a result. So they're not talking 'ballox' we are giving our opinion. The purpose of the thread.

I think it is quite clear it comes down to personal preferance. But the problem is COD4 is a more jump in game, where as 3 you really need to master those guns and you don't have juggernaut and crap like that so you do have to be tactical in a different way, usually through communication which I have said before is another thing I prefer in 3.

At the end of the day this is a thread for those who prefer 3 and a place where we can share our opinions why. If you don't like that or can't accept it then really you shouldn't be here.

One week out of 52, CoD3 was in the top 3 for online games played over XBL.

CoD4 wasn't even out a full two months and it trumped it in numbers online in LESS THAN TWO MONTHS.  Not to mention that it's barely above Crackdown in Online play.  Yep.. you fail.

The spring summer for 2007 in Gamebattles was all about GoW/Halo2/RSV.
Which is what it still is.  Except CoD4 has taken place of RSV and Halo 3 over Halo 2.  RSV is still fourth, and Call of Duty 3 is actually AFTER Call of Duty 2.  Try looking at stats not opinions.
If you knew anything about MLG/GB/WCG, you'd stop posting.

Not necessarily. I share the same view and will admit COD4 is my most played recent game. Mainly because of this prestige gimmic and most people are playing 4 these days. The point I made before was I would rather everyone went back to 3 and left 4. My views of 4 have changed but only slightly. CoD 3 NEVER reached anywhere near 50,000 players at once, and CoD 4 has already broken 450,000.


Also, I was more commenting on the fact that the OPs recently played game is ALWAYS CoD4.

Strange how COD2 was the first game I got with my 360 along with PGR3. I then went on to buy 3 and 4 when they were released, I bet you don't even have all 3? Statistics don't lie? Yes they do. Transformers has previously topped the charts, what's that, Wii best selling console I tell numerous people this who have no understanding of what defines a good game. Sales figures, number of players etc do not define a good game. Only the game itself can decide that.

COD3 I describe as an aquired taste. COD2 and 4 and more acadey shooters that most game players will enjoy. That is why 3 was not so popular. It's like Shadowrun for example. You need to give it time to understand how good it is.

Incase you did not realise what I said in my last post I was stating how like the OP COD4 is also my most played recent game. I am not denying it is a good game, but that is all it is, a game with a few gimmics. It does it well. COD3 was like a way of life. Everyone on there was defined by their skill levels and it was a great gaming experience. No one is doubting it is your opinion, but you are basically arguing with our opinion, so don't go down that route, this is basically a debate. where people are entitled to disagree with someones opinion.

I've been playing CoD, well since probably before you even started gaming tbh. CoD 3 was made by a company who doesn't make great games.  There is no 'learning curve' to CoD3, you want learning curve, go play EVE Online, or OFP - Maybe VBS1.  It was you get allied, you're 90% guaranteed to win, Axis 10% chance of winning.

You are arguing with my opinion, so I am going to argue back.  I promise I know more about the CoD franchise than you do, and if you want to talk about paths not to take - that is one of them.  He was arguing that CoD 3 was in the top 3 gamebattles played games, or XBL played games - which was wrong.  I proved that point with cold hard facts.  It was never Gamebattles top 3, and it was beaten by CoD 4 on XBL within two months over 12 months.

If you can't realize facts are facts, then perhaps you shouldn't argue with someone.
