Disc Tray gear Broke off in mine tray wont open or close :(

i got on today and my disk drive wouldnt read any of my disks. tonight i sent for my coffin R.I.P. 360 ill see you in four weeks......i hope        im mad because im really close to major in halo 3 looks like ill have to wait a while.  i have also been hearing buzzing noises for like 2 monthes b4 this happened, i knew it was coming. 

    oh and this is my 2nd account, thats why its silver and it has such a little gamer score

Add me to the club. Called today for my coffin. I was receiving a grinding noise while playing games as well.. I had received the "Unreadable disc" error twice. For the past two weeks, the dvd drive would not open using either the button on the drive itself, or the remote/controller. Yay...

no way, i've been a member of the red light club, got my console back, had it for 3 weeks, now i'm a member of the bust drives club, no error messages with mine, just ill noises, griding, and wont stay shut now, i'm gonna get the elite and see how long this can run before giving up, and i was lookin 4ward to COD4 god dam it.

i just sent my console to ger serviced today... the disc tray would not open, then it would but it wouldnt close, and when it finally did after like 30 minutes of waiting it wouldnt read the discs. I called xbox and one dumb lady said to me, are you sure the console is plugged in to the power outlet?? niceeeeeeeeeee

do you guys know how long it takes to get your console repaired or replaced?? i wanna go back to gears and halo lol

My drive just died on me today, so I guess I'm part of the club now too.  Bought my elite back when they came out in April, so that would make it six months before failure.  Sucks, I just bought COD4 today.  Guess my PS3 will finally get some play time.

i think i'll be joinning this group soon, on my 2nd 360 and i'm already hearing clicking noises, game freezes and all around annoying emotions flaring up, its like they giving us wounded war vets, never really healed but still close to death

Just joined today horrible grinding noise freaked my son out and he left the room because he thought it was going to explode or something. 

I started noticing white paint on the edges of the discs but the games would freeze then be fine for awhile so I didn't think much of it till today , the last disc had alot of white paint on the edges and it came from the center of the disc so the DVD drive was rubbing the disc enough to take the paint off and I'm tempted to try and get M$ to pay for new game discs but I wont know if the disc still works till I get our 360 back from repair (which will most likely be next year).

So I'm up to .... 2-ROD 360s, 4-Xbox 360 headsets, 1-Xbox 360 controller quick charger cable and now a Xbox 360 DVD drive.

All this since launch....am I lucky ? cant wait to call the help line, should be soooo much fun.

Just a note to M$ I was going to buy COD4 from Circuit City since they have a good deal with COD3 for free but whats the point if I'm not going to get my 360 back for a couple months or so...so I'm going to buy COD4 for my PS3 instead.

My dvd drive has been going out since the summer, but I still played it. It took me on average of 10-60 tries to ever to get it to read a disc. And after that it would be fine.

Well,......... By November my ejection button wouldn't open any more due to me trying to get my darn games to start up. Took off my faceplate and noticed my EJECTION BUTTON fell off. OH NOOOOOOO.  

My first thought, I'm in trouble. Time to Man up and accept responbility. I called M$ and told them the honest truth. Worried that I would had to pay big money to fix my eject button and my dvd drive. Turns out I have a warranty till next year.  No ***, lol. I could have done this half a year ago for free.

There's my two cents. Tell the truth.

Mine gone too. Awful grinding noise and won't read discs most of the time. Only 6 months old this 360 too! No red lights though.

Just got off the phone to MS, repair has been ordered.

for about a year mine has been occasionaly saying that it is unable to read the disc and will stop spinning the disc in the middle of the game so unnerving, and just recently I will open the game drive and it closes it or doesnt open at all or wont read disc

My drive was working fine no signs of failure, no extra noise or anything. The next day the drive wont spin at all. It says unreadable disc, I can still do everything else except play a disc. called for a coffin and coughed up the 99 dollars, still waiting for the box.

Aaaand, another bust drive over here.

Halfway through a level on Assassin's Creed and "GREEEEEEEUUUUUUUNGGGG" is about how I'd describe the noise coming from my drive. I pull the disc out to make sure it's not destroyed and then everytime I try to load something afterwards "Disc unreadable"

Just friggin' great, as my Xbox was the only thing keeping me sane whilst I'm laid up with a trapped nerve in my back. So this should put me in a real good mood to talk to customer services tomorrow.

I sent my box back on the 7th due to my disk drive breaking I believe

Since I got my 360 (which was my second) the disk drive has been making a funny sound but over the past couple of weeks (before it broke) the disk just stopped spinning in the drive while playing The Orange Box and textures didn't load which made me have to turn of my 360 but on returning to the Dashboard (everytime the disk seemed to have stopped spinning) I got a "can't read disk error"

The box started giving me 3 red lights about a week or so after the problems started, but the 360 wouldn't even go into the spash screen or dashboard, it just showed up as 3 lights and nothing else

I'm not too sure when I'll be getting my box back, hopefully next week

I was playing COD4 last night and everything was fine.  Today, I get home from work and the first thing I hear when I come through the door is the 360's broke.  Keep in mind today is Monday and it was raining all day long, so this is just freaking great.  Unreadable disc, the drive is silent and never gave a warning, and definately will not work.  After trying all the tricks from the forums I called support and found out I have 15 days left on my warrenty, thank God for small favors.  So, the coffin's in the mail and I'm hoping to get it back by Christmas.  Thanks M$, luv ya.

My disc drive broke in the middle of playing Call of Duty 3 in March.  It made a weird buzzing noise, and said rite there the disc was unreadable.  Eventually, the disc tray refused to stay closed.  I sent it in, and got a new console a week or two later.

Almost exactly the same. I was playing quite a bit of Mass Effect for a couple of weeks, and over the course of these weeks, it made worse and worse grinding and squealing sounds along with a couple unreadable disc errors. Today my play was interrupt by the most terrifying sound I have heard in awhile - somewhere between a yard rake on a chalkboard and a dentist's drill. After it was over (lasted about two minutes, my roomate and I were laughing our a****s off) it kicked me back to the dashboard and now the drive will not close.
