Ugh, time limits for edit. That's nice.

I wanted to add that:
- The Y + RT trick does not work. (if it does, please provide details on when exactly to press and hold those)
- The monitor I mentioned (again, it's Hannspree HF199H) only accepts HDMI input and a standard monitor cable, so I don't think I can do the 5 minute trick.

This mechod does work at least on some configurations. Turn the console on with your controller and as soon as you see the controller has connected to the Xbox 360 press and hold Y + Right Trigger until you see the screen flash and your Xbox 360 should reboot and you -should- have sound.

This is obviously not limited to one range of monitors/televisions as there are many people with other setups complaining of the same issue. It appears as though for some reason the console is looking to send audio out of the optical dongle, which no one experiencing the problem is using as they are connecting with HDMI for video/audio. It would also explain why component is not affected by this issue as it connects into that very same port.

I just hope Microsoft has a patch for this sometime soon as it's quite annoying. It's not affecting me specifically but I have been getting calls from my friends asking me to fix  their console and I'd rather have that stop lol.

Your using component or composite for your video? (1 yellor or 3 red green blue) If your using component on a standard definition tv it might be that the console is set to a setting it cannot recieve (IE set for HD which is not supported) If your using composite, frankly I have no idea.

With the y + rt fix, like the person before me said, as soon as the controller connects, hold them down. Just now i did it and let go after the console rebooted, to find that audio wasn't enabled. I did it again and held them down until the xbox logo appears and makes a noise. Then let go (may not be necessary though). And don't give up after 1 attempt.

Just to add. My console isn't elite. And my monitor is Mitsubishi.

put your monitor to an input other than HDMI then turn on your 360. wait about 3 minutes then turn it to HDMI...bam u should have sound.

also does anyone have a problem with the Benq G2400W not displaying dvd's over HDMI? i get the "Secure HDCP Link Not Found" error even though the monitor is HDCP compliant.

Ok, I need EXACT instructions, because I'm feeling like this is just being made up. I don't even get it to reboot.

I've tried:
- Y+RT immediately and hold until the game starts
- Y+RT when the quarter circle starts blinking and hold until the game starts
- Y+RT when the quarter circle stops blinking and hold until game starts

The console does not appear to reboot. Where did this information originate from? Maybe they have the missing piece. (if this isn't fake)

Ok, seems that the HD trick works for me. (Hannspree HF199H)

It makes me uncomfortable, though. And this better not void my warranty.

I've had no luck with any of these tricks on my Benq G2400W. And you can add me to the list of people ticked off that this hasn't been fixed yet. I'm frankly a little surprised that this fault made it past compatibility testing.

i use a Vizio LCD as well and the HDMI cable will not let me receive audio. picture is great but no audio. the problem didnt come about until after the NXE update. as of right now i would rather have the old dashboard. the only pro i do see in the NXE would be the Netflix offering instant streaming and veiwing.

For the record when I was using this to get my friends consoles to work I would start up the console with the controller. As soon as I saw the controller was connected (green light began flashing) I would hold Y+RT and not release until the screen would flash and the reboot had begun. Also, the reboot would occur at the large Xbox 360 spash screen just prior to loading the dashboard, if it's going beyond that it's not working. I promise you that this method works, I used it several times on different configurations. I will note too that I had the play and charge kit plugged in at the time, I'm not sure it makes a difference but I did that just based on my own mistrust of it being possible.

This method does work though, so I hope this is able to help some other people. I know the HD trick is used by many people but it doesn't seem safe to me despite what some people are saying.

Just fixed a friends audio with this technique: Folow the steps specifically and it will work. As a note, I did not have the charge cable plugged in... just a wireless controller. Good luck and peace in the Middle.

Ok, I'm at work right now so I can't try it, and will probably keep up with the HD trick since the RB drum controller doesn't have a RT anyway, but when you say "green light" do you mean the whole circle? Or just a quarter circle? (indicating that you've been assigned to a player number)

With something this weird (and frankly faith-driven), you need to be precise...

Y + RT does work. At least for me a Vizio 27in, XBOX 360 Arcade with 120gig HD and HDMI. Turn on the console with the controler and as soon as the console begins the boot cycle hold the two buttons down. With me as soon as it boots the dashboard is when it reboots then I release and I hear sound at the first splash screen and its golden. Have fun GAME ON.

We shouldn't have to keep removing our hard drives and restarting our systems just to get sound via HDMI. That seems to be a quicker way of provoking 3RL or RRoD. I refuse to game in low-res on my HD set. Everything was fine before the update. How long are they going to make us wait?

Thanks everyone for continuing to bear with us as the concern continues to be investigated. And from what I am reading from those in this thread, some of you are able to resolve your issue by using our display reset code?

Re: Vs: Re: No Audio at All post-NXE for HDMI connection to BenQ G2400W Monitor (via headphone jack)
So, I got the "Leave Xbox 360 on for 5 min. with HDMI connector on DVI/D-sub mode then switch to HDMI mode" to work for my BenQ G2400W monitor. A big thanks to the members who brought it up in this topic and various others!

A simple workaround, but I have to note that it was the last one I tried and NONE of the others including the "Reset Display Settings at Startup" trick, the "Hard Drive Removal and Replacement" hassle, and the "Clearing Your Cache and Deleting the Most Recent Update" bullcrap (NXE was still there...) worked at all.

Also, I wish to bring up something I read from LIVE_EVIL's post on avforums.com from a similar discussion to ours (if it has been brought up already, I apologize in advance for redundance):

"I think the whole issue is due to HDMI handshaking. PS3 does not recognise BenQ as a proper sound device and can use it only when forced to output 44.1/48 KHz digital sound. I think Xbox does try to test the output device, then it does not recognise it and disables sound automatically. All Xbox support needs to do is to force Xbox to output 44.1 or 48 KHz digital sound via HDMI no matter what."

Perhaps Microsoft Support might want to approach the problem from this technical standpoint as part of their ongoing investigation. Seems entirely plausible to me and IMHO I believe that the temporary fix I'm using is related in that the Xbox 360 has to "remember" to HDMI handshake properly each time with the BenQ monitor. And that when I don't have HDMI mode on at startup but switch to it afterwards, it "forces" or reboots the handshake to work properly. I dunno, am not a technical guy so hopefullly, MS Support can prove me wrong and fix it soon...

Re: No Audio at All post-NXE for HDMI connection to BenQ G2400W Monitor (via headphone jack)
I too have been struck with this problem, with the exact same setup (HDMI cable to the back of a BenQ G2400W monitor).  I have sent 2 emails to microsoft support, and been given the runaround, the tech support guys dont understand the problem, and the best advice i get is to power cycle the equipment, which obviously does nothing.  I also was on the phone to tech support for the best part of an hour, and after a dozen different fruitless attempts, the tech support person gave up, and told me that she would call back the next day (she didnt).

While on the phone i asked her if this was a widespread problem, she said it wasnt.  I think that this thread is evidence enough that it is.  As i understand it, EVERY person running HDMI to a BenQ G2400W monitor has had zero audio output since installing the update, and also many people running HDMI to a handful of different brands and models of monitors/TVs.  I also know that those with a G2400W cant solve the problem with the regular tech support answers (power cycle this, restart that).  This is a much bigger problem with the NXE update then just a restart issue.

This is a problem that needs to be fixed!  And please PLEASE let your tech support people know that telling us to use a different cable isnt a solution.  Even if it were possible (which on the G2400W it isnt without forking out more money for a VGA or DVI adaptor), why should we have to spend more money for a downgrade in quality when everything worked perfectly fine for over a year before an 'update'?  I guess all i really want is an answer from someone at Microsoft, or someone representing Xbox, tell me that you are aware of this problem, that you are working on a patch or a permanent fix.  We need to know if this is going to be a permanent problem and that we have to upgrade our monitors (i dont believe we should have to) and also the timeframe required for you to get the problem resolved.  Otherwise we are left scratching our heads, wondering if we have to buy a new screen to play on, or should we hold out for an update that might not even be coming.

Sorry the post is so long, ive been getting increasingly frustrated by this problem, just getting it off my chest.  It is comforting though to know im in the same boat as a lot of other people, and if we kick up enough of a stink, something might get done about it :D

Hey guys, I had this problem. Here's a solution if you don't mind spending 20 bucks or so:

buy a cooling unit which plugs in to the back of your xbox sockets and allows you to use any configuration of outputs.

You basically plug your HDMI plug in with 2 composite leads for your stereo audio.

Worked for me!

I just had it laying on the shelf because the damn thing wouldn't plug in to the xbox because the plugs weren't properly aligned, so i just shaved a bit of the plastic off the part surrounding the RJ45 plug and it worked a treat. Now I'm thankful I left it up on the shelf and didn't take it back to the shop again(had already taken 2 of them back because the plugs/sockets didn't line up perfectly)

Now I can game in high resolution graphics with sound! as well as keeping my xbox cool so i dont get that damn red ring of death :)

Rofl at Sma11wood ^.

Rofl at this problem.

Sorry to say it, but this just screams "Microsoft".

Typical Microsoft.

But this is why you should only play your Xbox on a regular TV or a Plasma/LCD HD Tv. No problems at all.
