Lol! That's exactly how I thought of it!Big Smile [:D]

I would recommend waiting until you have AT LEAST 10 stars before making any pearls, and for AT LEAST 2 of the 4 to be together, so you can keep starwalking and hence, making it easier to make more stars!

Me personally, I preferred to get between 12-14 stars before making pearls. Then I had at least 3 sets of stars to move around the board.

Unless you want to do what DC says and try to learn the grid. Depends how adventurous you want to be. It'll take a while to learn how to set it up and keep it but once you've invested the time, the rest is easy.

Starwalking and risking not making a grid works as well. The only problem is accidental combos.

BTW DC, what do you mean by "FlobberNeo?"Confused [*-)]

I was congratulating Flobber on getting his 101,010,101,010 score. I told him "Enter the Matrix!!!" and he said, "Yeah, I should change my name to 'FlobberNeo'." Have you seen the Matrix, Meister?

I have seen it once, on a school trip many years ago to Germany. But I couldn't hear it due to the noisy kids so I have no idea what happened in it.Sad [:(]

lol. The main character is named Neo, and I think there's a few screens (I believe at startup of the movie) where you the whole screen is showing "101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010". I could go on forever with that type of talk, but I don't want to waste my energy.

Re: oldtaco & Stoffs Guide to the Grid System (Videos)

After reading through this Guide thoroughly I've learned quite a bit, and I'm gonna give the Grid System ago now.

However, Stoffs says that you need 7 stars to restore the Grid, but on the Video's I can only see 3, any reason why? I might have got that wrong though.

Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on with the Grid system.

Thanks again

Re: oldtaco & Stoffs Guide to the Grid System (Videos)
I've been trying to get the grid working for a while now. I got it up once, and yes, I messed up quite early by not being patient enough and getting accidental combos. How long does it take to build up a grid for an average person? I can mostly only get 1 or 2 flowers in round 1, if any! Any advice, or just keep trying?

The last grid I got set up on level 1 with 4 combo's remaining! Big Smile [:D] Most of the time though, Probrably about level 5 for me. Are you trying to do MMC's? If you only have a couple of starflowers on the screen that's part of a grid; you just need to put it to use. I don't know how much you've ready in the forums, but it is a wealth of information. Go check out hexic.info if you haven't been there yet either....

Yeah I've been on that site, and read the forums. I'm not trying to do MMC's yet. My first step is just trying to get the grid working. I still need to make a cluster and a flower of pearls, so that's my first priority.
So if my grid is up by level 3 or 4, that's not bad?

Having the grid up at ANY time is great!  Big Smile [:D]  - Having a grid in place PLUS a good understanding of bomb defense will make getting the pooh-bah (and eventually an MMC!) much more obtainable.

I see lots of posts in which people worry about not getting the grid up quickly enough.  My personal opinion is it doesnt matter how fast you get it in place, as long as you can get it - keep in mind that multiple MMC games require the total destruction of the grid over and over again on level 7.

Good luck!

Thanks Flobberworm and Dumbledors Army, I got some positive feelings again now. Now I just need to find some more patience, and I won't mess it up so fast.. I got 3 columns of stars in grid shape, and it's hard for me not to get trigger happy.. I'm way better at 'looking before doing' than I was at the start, but still not good enough. Atleast I got the fun back now, now I know I'm not that bad. I can move around pretty good with the stars aswell. Next thing I will do is try to be one step ahead of bombs, but first things first I guess!

Re: oldtaco & Stoffs Guide to the Grid System (Videos)
Wow.. I got the grid going for quite some time, and I managed to make 3 pearls with it (first time I ever make more than 1 pearl) It all worked out pretty good. I decided to move my pearls closer together, just in case. Then the next starflower I make, a bomb drops down, and I wasn't able to solve it. So I made the cluster, got my achievement. One achievement left to go, and now I'm going to focus a bit on bomb defense. This game is too addicting for such a relatively small game.

I would just like to say this is an awesome guide and would like to thank all of those people that were a part of this in anyway. It has helped me out tremendously and I would have never been able to get the poo-bah without the knowledge of the grid :)

These guides are great.  I got Hexic about 18 months ago and enjoyed it but went no where.  I started playing it again over the last week after watching the youtube videos.

I haven't quite got my grid up and running yet.  Managed to make a 2x4 grid before a lapse in concentration saw it tumble down.  But I am fairly confident that its only a matter of time before I can get Grand Pearl Pooh-bah!!!

Thanks to those who contributed to the guides

Gentlemen ... was wondering if there's any form of save system for the game , outside of the standard quitting to dashboard and then resuming your game from the marathon mode ? Really need to be able to save and be able to go back to it again and again ... I'm getting so close on the formation of a 4x4 , but I can't seem to get past a vertical third , before something goes wrong . This game calls to me like crack , seeing the shapes in my brain ... watching those you.tube vids over and over , trying to let the knowledge seep in deep . Have a tremendous amount of progress in the last few days , but I can't maintain my grid once I start the "starflower" creation phase . Stars continue to end up on the bottom , bombs connect with bonus pieces outta thin air ... and you can imagine what happens then . Anyway , just ramblimg and rumbling on the need for a save / load system ... maybe via the memory card ?

Although this game requires a high degree of concentration I find it quite relaxing to play.  I like to chill out to something like this or Bejeweled before heading to bed.  So I imagine once my Pooh-bah is achieved I will still play and MMC's would be the next thing to work on.  Just at the moment though it seems like a quantum leap forward and I would need to review the whole bomb defense aspect a lot more.

Why the sad face?

Anyway I think I might write my own guide for Hexic... It would be called "How to *** up a grid in less than 5 moves" Smile [:)]

I managed to *** my grid up good and proper losing about 30 star flowers over the game and rebuild it about 5 times which has been good pratice.  The net result is I got my Big Cheese achievement and I am a whole lot wiser about managing my grid.  Ready for Grand Pooh-bah now.

LOL I hear you,  it really needs an undo button but then it would be too easy

I have been going through the same things as you.  A few tips that I have worked out is patience... take the time to examine what affect each move will have before doing it.  With a grid in place you can avoid making combos even if you have to turn several star flowers before you can make the move you really want to do.  Try to have stars in a vertical line so if they do collapse they stack on each other and are not destroyed.  Make additional stars at the top of the grid as it is less likely to cause further combos and repositions the newly created star in the right position on the grid. Controlling the combos goes a long way to avoiding bombs.  Once the grid is in place then creation of a new star flower or pearl should be just about the only combos unless the new pieces falling in the top create a combo meaning you can make about 15 star flowers or two pearls before another bomb appears.

Above all perseverance.  In my post above I mentioned how I had to rebuild my grid a number of times.  It was useful cause it taught me a bit more caution and practice at manouvering stars around to rebuild the grid which you need to do in a small way when you create the pearl.

Because I was cheated out of Endless Mode by the "Multimode glitch". Sometimes, it won't unlock the achievement for the mode you actually beat to unlock the Multimode achievement. That's what happened to me and hence the sad face.Sad [:(]

I must admit, though. Endless Mode was about the only mode I've ever played that has been able to do that. (Send me to sleep LITERALLY speaking.)Smile [:)]

Well I got my Grand Pooh Bah on level three with 20 combos left - thanks again to those that created the great guides that made this possible.

I had a look at hexic.info the other day and might have a play at an MMC in the coming weeks.  I am still only 3rd on my friends leaderboard so I will need to complete an MMC for bragging rights Smile [:)]

From my post the other day ... I've went from awareness of the grid , to building it time and time again . Then mastering the star-walking process , on to "Big Cheese" , and finally tonight ... after over two years of playing the game ... Grand Pearl Pooh-Bah ! The accomplishment has never felt sweeter . Many great thanks to Taco and the whole crew who put the tutorial videos up on You.Tube , they were the key to victory on this one .
