Well I managed to figure out the problem that so many people have been having with being un-able to open the chest. A friend and I had this as well. Their is a error in the latest patch that Microsoft Studios released not to long ago. It does not allow you use the chest in the guild. (Unless your game is pre-patched, which means your stuffed). The simple solution is to format your drive and remove all your patches. This will 100% allow you to do it, as it has worked on 17 games so far.
WARNING: IF YOU STARTED A CHARACTER AFTER YOU PATCHED YOUR GAME, THEN WHEN YOU REMOVE YOUR PATCH, THAT SAVE WILL CORRUPT, THOUGH JUST BY RE-ISTALLING THE PATCH, IT WILL UN-CORRUPT.

No, they won't.  Achievements are tied to your profile, so they cannot be deleted.

Anyway, can anybody specifically confirm that the aforementioned solution works?  Not to be mean or anything, but since I can't test it out personally I would appreciate more than one opinion.  If it's a viable solution, I'll have it edited into the post.

Are you sure? It worked on mine and most of my friends (who have Fable II) games. Did you start a new character? On-top of that, did you access it as soon as you got into the guild. That's just what I did, but i just assumed that it wouldn't matter.

Dear Webmaster,

I am e-mailing you on behalf of the Old Tomb, chest discussion, on the Xbox Live forums. The chest in "Old Tomb" seems to bugged and cannot be opened buy over 75% of its users, now this has been like this for well-over 3 months. I as a Xbox Live "Gold" member, should be getting its value for money. We were guaranteed that if we were to pay for Xbox Live we would get a far superior service to that of other consoles. Now I am in no way complaining about Xbox Liv in-itself, but rather the laziness of many of you people in Microsoft Studios and Lionhead (No offense), but this issue has been circulating for the better part of the year and after countless forums, and threads, you would think that a Mod or a Service representative would pick up on this and report it, but no! We've had no replies. I am asking you, why won't this chest open? Why won't you guys reply on this? Why won't you at-least patch this out? I have honestly no idea, seeing that Fable has been the only real game that's come out of Lionhead, wouldn't you guys focus your attention on some of the bugs and glitches in it?

 

Also, here is a personal complaint, as one of my accounts is the owner of the "Pub Games" game that was used as promo to the Fable II game, I bought this game in paticular to get the completionist achievement. Now I got everything from Pub Games and transferred it over to my original character, only to find that the transfer didn't bring up the achievement? Well I did a bit of searching on the forums and ended up finding out that, you in-fact need the items from the chest to get it. Now, are you guys seriously just telling me that I (and probably many others) lost over $110 AU (Spending a year (Xbox Live Gold(Doll Catcher)) doing it and the Microsoft points for See the Future and Knothole Island plus Pub Games) , in trying to get the achievements in Fable II only to find out that I cant get the full 1350 G's due to some glitchy chest that is just magically resistant to patches? I think you guys ought to be ashamed of this as I am starting to lose hope in Xbox 360 and Fable II. For 360 accessories and service only to be let down with a couple of these crumby little games that offer next to no patches.

 

Once again, if this does not concern you then forward it to the person who will deal with it (Lionhead), because im sending another one to Microsoft anyways.

Ok, a quick run-down of what you need to do.
If you have any old (corrupt) characters, then do not delete them (well, atleast you don't have to). Next, decline the update and proceed to the game. Start a new game, followed by goind through the 20-30 mins of childhood bs. When you manage to get to the guild hall, pretty much run straight to the chest, if after you try opening it, it still refuses to budge,--------------edit: first save your game as you will find out in the next step---------then press the Xbox Guide button and connect to Xbox Live, upon trying to connect to Xbox Live, it will ask you to download the patch, accept the patch. Now depending on what your console feels like it does one of four things(seriously, my friends and I had 4 different outcomes): Shut Down, Restart, Bring you back to the title screen or just continue playing. Either way, it should open upon return. 

when u format ur cache u delete ur characters.......well i invested alot of time in one of them and he has ove 10 mil and alot of good weapons and i dont want that to go to waste so what do i do?

so if i format my harddrive what will happen and are the harddrive and cache the same thing
