Re: Reporting Guide (Forums, Phishing, Username, and XBL)
I should probably elaborate,

The 'scam' was a simple one at best.  I got a voice message (the rest of the messages are text) saying someone was giving away 5000 points to the first person to message him back.

So, being new to the xbox live community I messaged him back...

It went on for a little bit, and he told me to give me the points, I needed to "hold his info" so he sent me his supposed email/password logon and asked for mine.

I asked if anyone had ever fell for that scam and haven't heard back.

Any help on what to do about this?

The only advice I can give you at this point is to keep avoiding, blocking communications, and filing complaints. If you just do that and not respond to him - he will eventually just lose interest or receive a suspension.

If you're reporting posts in a thread, where does the count start from? The very first post posted by the OP of the thread, or the second post after the OP's initial post?

Whichever post you click report on, that's the one that gets reported. If you want to report several posts in one thread, I figure you could just mention that there are several other posts in the thread that deserve some attention. The mod who opens the report can then skim the whole thread and see if the thread is worth saving. If the thread is several pages long, you should do them the courtesy of telling them which pages the other offensive posts are on.

Just tagging this.  It's probably one of the most useful posts on the forums and I need to refer more people here.  Spread the word.

Re: Reporting Guide (Forums, Phishing, Username, and XBL)
xbox sux... i sent in 3 systems to get repaired from which they all RROD. My most recent one RROD an my warranty i guess ran out so of course they wont fix it, so i have to pay $100 to get it fixed which sux cause i dont have it. So i call to get my xboxlive account turned off when my system RROD, comes to find out they didnt turn it off an there still charging me for something i cant play. So i call an ask to get my credit card removed off the account an of course they cant remove it (strange huh?) the only thing i can do now is have them turn off the automatic renewal from which i did already but still got charged previously. I asked if they can credit the $7.99 back to my credit card since im not able to play do to my xbox RROD an of course they cant (wow seriously?), but they are sooooo kind enough to tell me my xboxlive is still good till Nov 8th(sweet). So finally after all this trouble they finally turn off my monthly renewal. Even after a few systems an them charging
my credit card i still tfied to be dedicaded to xbox, an they still dont treat me right. So now more then ever i wanna buy a ps3.

Re: Reporting Guide (Forums, Phishing, Username, and XBL)

Great information here but I have a question, when I have to do a'' avoid player'' review on someone for let's say swearing into the mic, and that player already has two missing rep stars, why is it that that after I do the review his/her rep stars will fill in? I don't expect them to reduce but to fill in is not right. this started a few updates back and it makes me not want to use this tool.

This is about innocent threads post once or twice vs vulgar threads which are all over the forums.
 1. My topic was "Too Many Threads On this Topic",it was pointed out to me in less than 24hrs that there was a pinned thread on this topic, then it was locked.Even if there is 1 or 2 other threads on this topic, why lock them when there are plenty of topics which have over 50 threads on them for mods to check out. There are also 50+ threads with gamers using vulgarity in the titles and content that go untouched for days.Where my original thread barely went 24hrs and had nothing vulgar or unsavory in it,and it was locked.
Do mods pick and choose what needs to be locked?
2. Do they favor 1 forum member over another?
3. I personally found a thread with the word BS spelled out in the title,it disappeared only after I pointed it out to one of those guys that had a check mark in his gamercard. It seems that mods or mod minions could very easily just put vulgar words in the search and find more threads like these, they could even put in words that ppl use to represent those unsavory words in the search. Most of us know the euphisms that can bypass the filter, and if you put them in the search you'll more than likely run into a ess H eye tea load of them.
Only after locking threads that deserve locking should a mod start picking apart the one they see by users they may not like for one reason or another.I am sure the threads that have vulgar 3 word stories or are degrading anyone of a certain race, gender,or creed will always keep the mods busy enough, where as those that have decent input and no arguing should be left alone.
4. Why lock innocent threads, while the ones that are completely against everything in the CoC go untouched?
5. Don't say that the mods are too busy to find unsavory threads and ones that are decent are easier to find.Maybe the mods should utilize the search themselves, practice what they preach, find those threads like"this or that game is fecal" or "avoid so-n-so he glitches".There are so many of these type threads and lots of ways to word them.Use the search you too will find alot more than you see under active forums(which seems to be the only area mods actually check).

1. Having more than one topic on a single subject will clutter the first page of a forum and prevent users/guests from finding a subject that has been knocked to the second page.

2. No, all forum members are treated equally. There are a couple exceptions though, but they only apply if the user is well known and has been an active member for sometime:
- A forum member known for spam/vulgar posts will probably get a stricter punishment if he has just gotten back from a previous ban, or has recently got a talking to.
- A forum member who doesn't post off-topic, reports frequently and exhibits behavior not in his/her normal manner. He/she would probably get a warning or a talking to about the post, but if the attitude continues he/she would receive the same punishment as another user.

3. If you search those terms most of them have been filtered, aren't in an attacking post, are months old, or have already been taken care of. If they haven't been taken care of they usually will be, or you can do your part and report them. :)

4. If a thread is against the CoC and a mod sees it, it will be locked. Here's a post on why your "innocent threads" may have been locked.

5. They do, and no, they aren't able to catch every thread. Even if they search, the search doesn't always show the offensive threads right away. For the amount of mods we have, the amount of threads created each day, and considering the fact that the mods do this voluntarily.. I think they do a very nice job.
Here is a thread on the same topic that I wrote about that has lasted since early March....
http://forums.xbox.com/26054594/ShowPost.aspx

I reported it without posting at 1st then again with a short comment, and then I reported it after adding the real reason it is allowed to gather comments. The mods here pretend they are all about community and helping others, when actually they are a bunch of college kids on power trips. There needs to be a better way to report threads and less abuse of mod power.Who do you report biased mods too?

when MODS get on the power trip issue YOU CALL XBOXLIVE AND DEMAND TO SPEAK TO A SUPER make sure you copy the post from THE MOD to e-mail to the person you are speaking to;BUT i'm sure since this post was made that issue was taken care of by live;and certain powers where removed and certain MODS got whatever live deemed necessary

No, calling Xbox Live will get you no where with forum issues. All issues with the moderators on this board are handled by just a few MS staff members. Generally though if there is an issue with a mod - other mods will be sure to handle it (though issues rarely occur).

No, nothing happened to any moderator after the user made the post. If I remember correctly the user that you quoted was in the wrong in the situation. If you don't see a complete follow-up by a moderator it's usually because the issue was handled in private messages.

Yes, calling Xbox support works for things related with "LIVE." However, they have no control over the forums. The only exception to this are the support agents that actually work for Microsoft and not a support agency contracted by Microsoft. (Lucky 13 X is a prime example. He is no longer a support agent but he is still a mod on the forums.)

What Pharen said is true. If there is an issue with a moderator, it's usually dealt with before anyone else really knows what is going on. I have seen it happen once or twice before. They are here to help and it would not be beneficial for anyone if any of them went on a power trip. That's why they keep it balanced.

on ur xbox go to file complaint and report the profile, motto;etc

live may or may not do something about it;being that LIVE is not part of the forums the mods here can only give you the same info;unless that person posts in HERE that's all that can be done HERE
