Why don't the advertisers gracing our video games sponsor all downloaded content,  or off set the cost of a game?

Ah, welcome back. Nice little column as usual, although not owning Guitar Hero II yet could also be due to the fact that it is not out here until tomorrow and as Friday is Easter already, it could be some of us won't get our guitar-slingin' fix until next week. Oh well, perhaps some local store is kind enough to start selling them today...

As for the band name issue, after sinking countless hours into Rainbow Six: Vegas, I wonder if Logan and his team would, after retiring from all the terrorist hunting and hostage rescuing, form a rock band called Tango Down, perhaps with hit songs like "Sound Suppressors Off" and "Go Go Go!" :)

Sweet news on the new download content for Marvel:UA. I was wondering if they'd add new characters, but seeing the villian pack really switches the story a bit. I wonder how those will end up playing out. Maybe we'll twart new NPC heroes as well. So do I sunderstand correctly that seperatly they are 500 points each, and together they are 800 points?

Dude, that is one lousy band name. Too long, for one thing.

:)

But seriously... As I mention in my column every week, that kind of stuff is far, far out of the realm of where I work. The decision to put advertising in a game rests with the games' publisher, whether that's Activision, EA, Microsoft, etc. Advertisers have sponsored downloadable content (see Discovery Channel and the Gears of War maps). But anyway, this is a big topic of debate, you can find hundreds of messages discussing it on gaming forums, and it's not anything I have any influence or inside info on. I have opinions on when ads work and when they're distracting, but those are just mine as a fellow gamer and they don't officially represent anyone except me. Sorry.

That was tongue-in-cheek. :) Heck, I don't actually even have my copy of the final game yet; but I've been playing the heck out of the pre-release version. Crazily addictive game, even though so far I'm pretty lousy at it.

I saw screen shots that showed heroes and villains on the same team. So it looks like one of those classic comic situations where the villians are forced by circumstance to fight with the heroes.

And yep, if you decide to buy all 8, the Heroes/Villains combo pack will be 800 points.

Oh yes, my post as well :) Really, really hoping to pick it up from somewhere today, though. Have played it a lot on the PS2 but without the guitar controller, so the 360 release and all those plans for future DLC gives me a perfect opportunity to experience it again the way it is meant to. Great to see the 360, too, graced with original and innovative games like that. The more genres, the merrier!

Dang! Guitar Hero II was nowhere to be found, so that'll have to wait until next week. In the meantime, toying around some more with the band challenge of the week, just for the heck of it. This will most likely makes no sense whatsoever to anyone not into Japanese rock but I was tremendously bored so here's a Trixified album for your listening pleasure...

I got the perfect band name (aside from Emergence Hole)   The Flood   Short (no pun intended). Great for croud surfing. And people just can't get enough of them.

My band name: Sonic Riders

Not a great game but it seems to fit a rock band just right.

2. 1000 Points Of Awe

3. Dual-Wielders

4. Master Fenix

I could go on for hours...  Shameless attempt for a free game.

Yeah sweet to tease us with I've got empty silhouettes and no content. Then (no offense XBOX) I sit on XBOX live customer support for an hour just trying to explain to the guy what I can't download. He keeps thinking I'm trying to download pic. packs and themes? Anyway all I'm saying is if you can't release the downloads on the dates you set then LET US KNOW...................This is regarding the 8 extra characters that you can download for Marvel Ultimate Alliance supposedly today but you can't.

As usual, thanks for the column although I beg to differ with the ingenuity of difficulty levels in Guitar Hero II as they seem more like challenging/tough/insane/sheesh than easy/medium/hard/expert. Then again, I haven't got any rhythm, either :D

As for future column ideas, the everyday life in the office still stands. Trixie covered a little something like that with her video interview of Major Nelson but something like a "diary of an ordinary workday in editer's life" would be neat :P

(And just in case you don't keep up with these forums much, DragonExadon has officially moved the Trixie puns from Zuma to Guitar Hero II as proven with this :D)

Congratulations to the winners! I knew Banned was going to fare well as it was a most suitable pun and let's face it, puns are always good :) Then again, Bleeding Fingers is certainly what I'm going to have if I ever move to Hard on GHII, let alone Expert ^^; As far as the XBLA releases go... Well, still patiently waiting for Catan.

Hey Editer,

Why exactly were there two games released last Wed.? Was there a mixup? I noticed that first Gyruss showed up on the games page and then, shortly after, 3D Minigolf. All before Wednesday - which seems to happen sometimes. Or is it because even you peeps at MS are as eager as we are for Catan and need to get all the games ahead of it on the release schedule out of the way? Wink [;)]
