this has been tried just recently so firstly a question...what are you guys getting lockups got your PAL settings at?

eviltedi has it as standard on PAL 60, and yes every time an achievment was unlocked the screen froze.

We know another 2 consoles that so far has had NO probs, running on PAL 50...so eviltedi tried it, changed to PAL 50 and has had his last 2 achievments with NO lockups.

Please give it a try and let us know if it works for you too

hi, thanks for the idea...

i have mine on PAL 60 and got lockups.

but i do not want to change it everytime i play a game. it would mean i have to unplug my VGA cable, plug the RGB, start the console, put it in pal 50 mode, turn it off, unplug RGB, plug VGA. and this for every time i want to play this, and then another game that only uses pal 60. i'll stick to 60 for the time being. but someone else, less advanced in the game might want to try it... thanks again.

 

search the forums, i posted this long ago. to avoid the lock ups, when the small box appears and tells you what plane you unlocked, press the guide button BEFORE advancing, then close the guide and continue. it will not lock up, i believe the achievement unlocked notice is causing the problems, but this should avoid it until a fix.

agree with the blade up option, but it hasn't always worked, so far the pal 50 has, but will let you know as things progress

This post actually makes a ton of sense.  As you may know, the Achievement lockup started happening when the last minor Dashboard update (the Chinese language fix?) was applied.  One side effect of that minor update was that the pal frequency got reset, so a few games no longer ran correctly.  There were a lot of people who couldn't play Hitman: Blood Money, for example, until they had to go into the System pane, and change it back to the right setting.

Yes, it's a pain for some to change, because you have to swap cables (or flip the little switch), to get to the right area in the settings, but it's the fix alright!

Now that you mention the game locking up for some people but not others, because their pal frequency is different, it all makes sense.  Good work figuring out this problem!

I'm in the US and use a vga cable to my monitor.  Since I don't have to deal with the Pal problem does this all mean that maybe using a vga cable can cause the problem in the US, because I get the lock-ups also........thanks. 

Ok, here's what you have to do to fix this.  Swap your VGA cable out for the TV cable (or the HD/TV cable, with the switch flipped to TV).  Turn your Xbox on, go into settings, and correct the TV's PAL setting.  Turn it back off, and switch back to your VGA cable.

The reason you have to do this, is that the PAL setting is a TV setting, but the Dashboard will not display the TV setting for you to change, unless the TV cable is plugged in.  So yep, even though you're using the VGA cable and not TV, there's apparently a bug with the game, that is affected by the TV PAL setting.

I've got the VGA cable too, and use my Xbox with a widescreen monitor, and I can assure you it doesn't lock up for me, so this should fix it for you.

Every time I unlock a plane in H ell mode it has frozen on me!! I have a feeling I will have to beat H ell mode twice just to get thru it the first time . I've already beat missions 1-6 two times each and I'm afraid of beating 7 (which I have been stuck on for awhile now) and having to re-do it.

you can set ur online status to away busy or what not and the achievement popup doesn't come up so that might stop it


and u can set ur settings to have no notifactions at all and that should take of it

I can tell the UK guys that eviltedi has got a few more achies with no lockups using the PAL 50 thing tho (if its any help he's using composite V on a normal telly

After reading and trying the suggestion about hitting the guide button right after you hit A after it says you unlocked a plane and right before the Replay starts, I havent had a single lockup since.

1. Inspect the underside of the CD closely.
2. If their are any smudge marks, dirt, or scratches, clean the disk.

Just an Update about UbiSoft support...there is none for this game.  I've gone back and forth a couple times now, and they finally sent a response saying that it must be the hardware, and that I need to talk to Xbox hdw support, and that they will not look into the matter in any way.

Oh I totally agree with ya, just frustrated ...that and I guess for the US 360's there's not a PAL setting that alleviates these issues.

Can you try clearing out the cache folder on the xbox360 by doing the following. Take the disk out of the xbox and restart the xbox so the dashboard software loads up.
Next make sure your controller is usable so you can move around the menu system (With a wireless controller you need to turn the controller on again).
Next hold down the A button on the controller, and reinsert the game disk.
Keep the A button held down while the intro videos play for the game, then once the main menu appears let go of the A button.

Play the game as normal and tell me if the same problem happens.

As an extra piece of information to help us recreate the problem could we also ask exactly what hardware your 360 uses to connect to Xbox live if it is connected?
Who is your ISP and what speed connection do you have?

If an achievement is unlocked with the system disconnected from Live do you get the same problem?

Hi

How a modem can affect whether a game can freeze while getting an achievement Offline has me fasincated, could you please enlighten me why this is relevant. In any case the 360 plugs straight into the modem, and does not share a connection with a PC at all. Also previously I stated that changing the settings to PAL 50 eliminates the freezing, well, I tried to complete a mission yesterday and it froze on me just as the achievement was unlocked and the replay mission was to start.

Achievements are directly linked to your Gamertage or Live account where applicable although if you state this was done while disconnected from Live then this should not be the case.

Please bear in mind that we are trying to help and trying to establish what is unique to your circumstances to be causing this particular issue.  Have you been able to test the game on another console at all to see if the media itself may be an issue?
