Call Of Duty 2 Technical FAQ

Q: I was playing Call Of Duty 2 and received an error message that said:

"Error recursive error after: Zone 'level_name_here' is out of date (version 0, expecting 104)"

Or something similar. Is my game broke and how can I fix it?

A: That is a file read error (i.e. file data is returning zeros), which is a result of a scratched or dirty game disc. Please check the bottom of your game disc and ensure that there are no imperfections [i.e. cracks, scratches, indents, chips] and that it is thoroughly cleaned of any dust, fingerprints, or other dirt.

Once you have ensured that there are no imperfections and that the disc is cleaned, attempt to play it again. This should resolve your problem unless it is a severely scratched or damaged disc.

Q: When playing COD2, I couldn’t hear certain team members in-game, what’s the problem and how can I fix it?

Or

Q: When playing COD2, I keep getting a ‘Unable To Join Session’ error when attempting to join the session of certain gamers on my friends list. Why is that?

A: Both of these issues could be a result of your Network Address Translation NAT settings on your Xbox360. In-game Voice on Call Of Duty 2 and joining a friends sessions are all reliant on your NAT setting. For the best possible result, ensure that your NAT settings are set to OPEN. Instead of STRICT or MODERATE. This will allow you to make sure that you are compatible with other users and can easily hear them in-game as well as join their game sessions.

Q: I went to set up a private match, and it won’t let me set the reserved friends slot to ‘0’. How come?

A: Private Match is intended for Private Matches among friends. Therefore you must have a minimum of 3 friends in the room and the rest public if you want to have a full 8 person room. If you want to play with the public, we encourage you to choose Quick Match or Custom Match and play in a public room.

The option to set the friends slots to ‘0’ was due to technical problems that were caused by the majority of players wanting to be host and causing a strain on servers due to thousands of user created lobbies and players being spread out among all of those rooms.

Private Match was never intended to be an option to host your own game, but an option to allow you to set up a private match with your friends.

Q: My friend and I were attempting to play COD2 on XboxLive from the same Xbox360 but couldn’t figure out how to do it. How can we both play online from the same console at the same time?

A: Call Of Duty 2 online does not support GUESTS or allow multiple people online from the same Xbox360. If you would like to play with your friend you can play a localplay split screen match, or via system link.

Q: A group of friends and I wanted to set up a system link match, but we can’t get more than one person on an Xbox360. What are we doing wrong?

A: Call Of Duty 2 supports up to 16 players on System Link, however in order to play a System Link game you must have 1 console, 1 television, and 1 copy of Call Of Duty 2 for each person. Once you have that, simply link the consoles together via Ethernet cables and set up the game.

Q: I downloaded the new Map Packs for Call Of Duty 2 via XboxLive Marketplace but it won't let me play them. Whats wrong and do I have to pay for them again?

A: We are aware of the problem that was apparently a result of the Xbox 360 Dashboard Spring Update, which is causing the console not to recognize the Map Packs you downloaded.

We are working with Microsoft to figure out what has caused this issue and to reach a resolution as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, hopefully these will help you fully enjoy the new map packs:

Ways To Recognize The New Map Packs When Experiencing The Problem:

1)       Re-Download Map Packs From XboxLive. This will refresh them on your HD and allow you to play them. This will not charge you again, and will only take 1 second per map pack to refresh.

2)       When on the main menu, select single-player, then switch back to multiplayer. This will sometimes refresh the maps and allow you to play them without re-downloading.

3)       Re-start your console. This will sometimes refresh the maps without having to re-download.

These are a few of the ways we have worked around the problem; however we are working with Microsoft to find a permanent fix to the conflict with the Dashboard Update. You will not have to re-purchase the map packs, simply re-fresh them using one of the methods above.
