Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I filed a complaint with BBB, its been about 2 weeks since thier initial attempt to contact Microsoft. They will try again soon if Microsoft does not reply. My Xbox gets the "Fuzzy Watercolor" image about 3 minutes into Call of Duty 4 and 1 Vs 100. I first checked my warranty and found that it was expired, then looked up the problem on google. I saw that someone on Yahoo answers had suggested the BBB(Better Buisness Bureau). I imediately filed a complaint on Microsoft. My argument was as follows: "I have a Microsoft Xbox 360 system which recently developed a problem with the video. About 5-10 minutes after a game is started the screen starts to get covered in a flickering purple/green fuzz. I have attempted to remedy this by checking the connections and resetting the video settings, but the problem persists. This seems to be a problem with the Xbox hardware as the Tv itself does no have this problem when watching television. The pricetag to repair this seemingly minor problem is $99, nearly 1/3 of the price paid to purchase the system. I find this outrageous as Microsoft already made plenty of money off of me as I purchased several of thier products. Also Microsoft's Xbox 360 is constantly suffering from hardware failures all over America. Apparently my 1-year warranty just expired and I do not qualify for a 3-year warranty seeing as I have a seemingly less severe issue. Its just a video error, the system works and plays games so why would they charge such a large ammount to fix it? Please help and doing anything possible to convince Microsoft to repair my console without having to pay this fee." Im glad to see I am not alone as everyone is having this problem. I hope Microsoft realizes the sitiuation we have here and actually does something about it. I hope all of you follow suit and file compaints on Microsoft for their irresponsible treatment of loyal customers who have purchased and use thier products, and demand propper compensation. Boy that was long, thanks for reading though. :)

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
i was playing fallout 3 last night, when all of a sudden a few minutes into the game the dark corners of the hallways and the lighting were extremely wavy and disoriented. i went outside the building and the same thing happened to the clouds. now everything seems 5x brighter as well. then i went to my dashboard to see if it was have any issues. well sure enough, the green boxes on the dashboard were messed up. i tried every possible combination of hooking it up and it still gets this problem. i'm not sure if i should **** away $100 for it to break a year and two weeks after the warranty expires and this happens again.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
i've had mine fixed once before while it was covered under warranty.  when SF4 came out in feb, i was playing about 8hrs a day and the snowy outlines started to appear around the objects, characters, etc.  i ended up buying this:

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.gamedaily.com/gear/media/2008/12/nyko-ts360.jpg

and it has helped a lot.  it uses its own power supply too.

this is probably old news to a lot of people and maybe i don't play as much as everyone else, maybe 3hrs a day, but it has helped a lot.  temps lowered about 10-14 degrees

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I've been having the same problem. Was playing CoD4 this morning, had played for about an hour just fine when all of a sudden the color went funky. Looked kind of like a watercolor painting that got wet. Restarted the console and it was black, sound was working perfectly though, have been turning it off and on for a couple hours now with no luck. Unfortunately my warranty gone and since it's not RRoD. I agree that since this seems to be such a widespread problem recently we should not have to pay for it regardless of RRoD or not. I don't know about anyone else but I'm on a fairly tight budget, I don't have the spare cash to pay for repairs.

Add me to this list.  Playing COD: WaW and then display colors go crazy.  When I try to restart, the display is blank, but I can hear sound.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I got my 360 2 years ago in August and it's worked just fine... I was playing BF1943 last night and the picture started flickering, took on a posterized look with an exaggerated blue cast. I shut it down and restarted and it seemed ok until I jumped back into my party and it came right back. I played for a bit before shutting it down again... then went into Netflix, started watching something and it did the same, blue posterized cast. I switched the cable to the other component input on the TV, that did nothing. I cleared the cache and then restarted and then I got the black screen. Audio works, I can hear the dashboard sounds but no picture. I guess the video output on this thing has died.

Amazing how it's just over 2 years old and the thing craps out. Glad I got the 3 year service protection... guess I'll be calling for a coffin box. Thanks Microsoft. Thanks A LOT. Such quality in these boxes.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
My Xbox 360 has this same problem and all microsoft has said over the phone is send it in for roughly 100 bucks... I had started my own forum then found this one. Here's what happened to me, I'm really considering purchasing the arcade system, because at least then I'll be getting a NEW effing xbox that will be under warranty:

This is just an update as of 5pm 9/10. I went to my nearest gamestop and purchased a replacement Audio/Video cord compatible with the 360 and tried that, still the same problem. Perfect audio, system working fine, but still no video being sent out. I have noticed there it does show a little distortion across the screen as it starts up, like it's "trying" to send something to the TV but nothing comes up. Guess I'll be calling up Microsoft support tomorrow.

Ok, so this started yesterday 9/9. After I got home from work went to play Rock Band 2 for a little while. While playing it, you could see a "shift" in the graphics quality off and on, where everything would be grainy and darker, with some white lines jumping across the screen. I believe the technical term for the lines are digital noise? This distortion was also on the NXE Dashboard, as well. Anyway it would switch back and forth periodically, so I figured the A/V cords were dirty or not connecting right.
Turned it off, played with all the cord connections, blew any dust out of the 360's A/V output, and turned it back on. This time there was no video being shown, but I could still hear the bootup sounds. So I played with the cords again and this time it came back on, with no problems for a few minutes, so I figured this was over. I changed games to Silent Hill: Homecoming. Starts up fine, loads fine, but once I actually get in game, the distortion comes back on. I was a little angry, but played for a while, turned it off, fiddled with the cords, and it came back on just fine.

After all that I said I'll deal with this tomorrow, I looked online to see if I could find anyone having the same issues, and then decided that I was gonna try and take a picture to add to my post. So I've tried to turn it on today, now I'm getting my black screen with the xbox boot sounds? Nothing I do with the cords will make it work today, from what I've read online, I should try it on another tv, I unfortunately only have one at home. I have tried other systems to see if it's my TV, but my Wii, PS2, and original Xbox are all fine.
Some other probably helpful information, this is the original Xbox 360 Pro, I believe I've had it since 2006, the old one! My 360 has overheated once (my fault), which produced the Red Ring of Death, which Microsoft fixed and shipped back within 5 days of me sending it off. I'm not getting the E74 error that I've read about online, because I can't see anything on the screen, and all the lights on the ring are green. I have tried resetting the display settings using the "Hold Y, and pull the Right Trigger during the console startup" with no luck.

Any helpful ideas are greatly appreciated, I wish I would have taken a picture when it was still showing up...

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Took my box down to the local store to verify that it wasn't just a bad cable... definitely not. No video using their cable and monitor. The guy at the store said it was the precursor to the RROD. So back to Micro$oft it goes for repair. I hope this doesn't become a recurring theme putting me on the path to multiple Xboxes!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Finally got the E74/Hardware Error/One Red Ring today, almost a month after first experiencing these issues.  The video quality took a even bigger drop just hours before it happened.  Thankfully, I am still under Extended Warranty, but it was close!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Finally, the confirmation of my suspected problem.

I know I had problems last month,  my xbox froze up in the middle of a trade with a friend playing Fable II.  Rebooted, and it locked up immediatly, so I rebooted and got 3 red flashing lights.  Turned it off and  unplugged it and replugged it in, then rebooted no problems till this week.

Wendsday night, same thing it locked up so I turned it off.  Thursday night I am  palying Fable II and am having no problems then the video gets well watercolorey, and grainey. This affect was not only ingame but affected the dash board.  So I turned it off. Last night I turn it on to play Sorry and immediatly get this grainey water color looking screen. Turned off and turned back on and it is now just a snowy looking mess,  turned off then back on and no video signal.

Emailed support and they tell me to check my damn cables.  This box has been hooked to this TV since we bought the xbox.  It is also out of warranty a dec 2007 model.

Wonder if I can get it fixed or would it be cheaper to by a new console?

You got 3 red rings--call support and tell them that.  They'll fix it for free under the 3-year extended warranty.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Thanks, I called and talked to somebody  in New Delhi.  He tried to charge me for the repair even though I did get 3 red rings the one time.  I had to stress to him that it still had gotten 3 red rings, even though it was not now and that was a 3 year warranty.

Apparently, they do not send you a box to ship it in anymore, all you get is a shipping lable.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I had the same problem on the second xbox 360 I've owned. My first one got the RROD and was sent in when they finally extended the problem to the three year warranty. My new one worked fine for a while, untill right after Gears of War 2 was released. I was playing on my xbox the night before, and shut everything down just fine that night. The next day I went to turn it on and got no video at all, just audio. My third xbox 360 has been fine so far, but when I bought a new one, I got the latest xbox with the new chips in it. At the time my xbox 360 went out my councel it was not under warranty and they wanted roughly $100 to fix it. Hopefully Microsoft will wise up and see this as a major problem and get them covered under an extended warrenty like the RROD.

This is clearly a wide spread issue, and is being reported in multiple threads across the Xbox Forums.  I also found this Engadget article (http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/24/xbox-360-owners-reporting-blank-video-output-issue/) posted back in late June which also has comments posted.

Yeah, June 2007.

Got my box back only took 3 weeks including the shipping to & from... they just replaced it with a new one. Let's hope this one lasts but I'll probably renew the coverage plan in another year to be safe.

Is there anyway of making an xbox rrod? then we could have this issue fixed at the same time!   its not fair we all paid our money in the first place for the xbox to break just out of warrenty for ms to turn round and say "we screwed up and put components which were going to break in, but to fix it we will charge you all £80"

you dont get that from anyone else, if they are at fault as they usually are with hardware issues, they should be the ones to pay for it. BUILD THEM PROPERLY!
